“ academic roles are not seen as scripted;
they are constructed and inhabited
through navigating the tensions betweens
between structures, the communities in
which practice takes place and
academics’ own positions towards
structures”

“ One cannot talk about education psychology
without talking about pigeons. One cannot
talk about education technology without
talking about education psychology. One
cannot talk about education technology
without talking about pigeons.

“Comparable results have been obtained with pigeons,
rats, dogs, monkeys, human children… and psychotic
subjects. In spite of great phylogenetic differences, all
these organisms show amazingly similar properties of the
learning process. It should be emphasized that this has
been achieved by analyzing the effects of reinforcement
and by designing techniques that manipulate
reinforcement with considerable precision. Only in this
way can the behaviour of the individual be brought under
such precise control.
-F.B Skinner

➤ prepare students for lifelong, self-regulated,
cooperative and work-based learning;
➤ foster high quality student learning
➤ teaching methods change in response to students’
increasing metacognitive and self-regulatory skills
➤ complexity of the problems dealt with increases
gradually and systematically.
(Vermut, Student Learning and University Teaching 2007)

“ Emergence is the way that complex systems or
structures arise out of a multiplicity of simple
interactions. Ballet is a great example of this in
itself, with a series of simple physical structures
and rules (technique) combining into a complex
dancing (choreography) in the individual.
