APRIL 2017VOLUME XXXVIII, No. 7

“The last week has been a roller coaster ride!” Perhaps you have heard someone describe life in those terms. We understand the expression – life has its share of twists and turns, of highs and lows. We understand because we have been (or can at least imagine being!) on a roller coaster.

It starts slow – a crawl up the first hill to the highest point – and then the fun begins! Speeding through banked turns and flying up and down hills – there is that combination of thrill and terror all rolled into one.

“Roller Coaster” seems to be a fitting description of the events of Holy Week. The week begins with the high of Palm Sunday, where Jesus is proclaimed King as the people shout “Hosanna!” Next, we witness the lows – betrayal, abandonment, flogging, trials, crucifixion. As we observe these things from the shadows, we come to the awful realization that our sins are the cause of Jesus’ pain. Then we hear the cry that indicates the lowest low – “My God – why have you forsaken me?” We are crushed to understand that the innocent Jesus is suffering hell for us.

That low of Good Friday is replaced by the joy of Easter Sunday. The grave is empty! Jesus has risen! Forgiveness for our sins is assured, and our salvation is signed, sealed and delivered. Our hearts soar to hear and know the truth of Isaiah 53:5, “He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” May God bless you through the ups and downs of your Holy Week celebration and give you complete joy in Jesus’ victory!

APRIL Announcements CONCESSIONS COORDINATOR

POSITIONA volunteer concessions coordinator is needed for the 2017-18 school year. The main responsibility is inventory and ordering products. Hours are very flexible! For more info, please contact Joel Babinec at: 783-5435 x1645 or [email protected].

GRAND PIANO WANTEDThe Luther High School Music Department is looking for a performance quality grand piano to keep in the new Chapel/Auditorium. The piano would be used for concerts and daily worship. If you have a grand piano and are willing to donate it, please contact Paul Adickes at [email protected].

We are headed down the home stretch with the Chapel/Auditorium finishing work.

The contractors are putting in some extra hours to help us cross the finish line. We hope to be granted our occupancy permit in time for the Easter Concert. Thank you to everyone who came in to help on our recent volunteer work days.Thank you for your continued support!

ATTENTION!The Luther High School Football program is looking for season and game stats from 1963-2005. If you have any information that can assist, please contact Athletic Director Joel Babinec or Head Football Coach Matt Schiebel. Thank you!

Luther High School’s robotics team, igKnightion, invites you to the Seven Rivers Regional Competition! Almost 50 robotics programs from across the Midwest will gather, hoping to advance to the FIRST National Competition in St. Louis. We’ve been hard at work creating a robot to compete in this year’s FIRST competition, called “Steamworks”. The best news? This year’s event is at the La Crosse Center (where a competition has never taken place) on April 14th (8am-8pm) and 15th (8am-6pm). We encourage anyone to visit for in-person tours and fascinating competition. We hope to see you there!
