ENGINEERING MACHINE DESIGN CONTEST The process of designing and building a machine is fun and encourages teamwork. Youth gain hands on experience identifying problems, making and testing solutions, evaluating results, and learning to share their experience with others. Allows youth to explore themselves and their career pathway. Youth will grow as professional leaders and problem solvers by incorporating STEM principles. WHO: Teams of 3-10 6th-12th Grade Youth WHY PARTICIPATE? ENGINEERING.MNSU.EDU/ENGINEERING-MACHINE-DESIGN-CONTEST/ OVERVIEW WHAT: Opportunity for youth to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematic principles while having fun in a collaborative environment. SCORING: Team Journal, Team Presentation, and Machine Design and Operation. MACHINE: Teams design and build a complex machine using everyday objects. The completed machine will use multiple steps to complete a simple task. Each year a competition theme is chosen to guide the machine build and allow for whimsical creativity to flourish.
