Business Process Description Overview With Sales and Operation Planning, you can create planning data that is based upon a forecast, which will provide the framework for your production planning activities. In a planning table, you create the planning data that relates to your master data that is derived from a forecast; this process can be based on your forecast of future events as well as on historical patterns and trends. A series of mass processing functions automate the planning of large volumes of data. For example, a forecast which is based upon master data at the customer/material level can be disaggregated in the S&OP planning table at the plant/material level. The planning table in which you work resembles a spreadsheet. You therefore have tremendous abilities to track planning data, anticipate market demand, run analyses, and perform what-if simulations, particularly for rough-cut capacity planning at the plant level. SOP's integrated functionality provides you with a total picture of your plant's activities. You can pool data from many different internal and external sources and use it as the basis for setting realistic operational targets. This provides the opportunity for a reality check: does my business strategy accurately reflect both my operational capacities and market demand? Thus, with SOP, you adopt a proactive as opposed to a reactive stance to planning. Once you have finalized your planning data, you can transfer the planning data to Demand Management from where it will be become the basis for Master Production Scheduling and Material Requirements Planning and Cost Center Accounting.
