These releases add the following enhancements and new features to the EMC M&R platform.

EMP-6052 Backends > Alerting-Backend

Alerting Backend now supports history operation based on a 'Properties Group By' rather than Variable ID. Example: Compute the average (sum, max, min, etc.) of a specific metric for a given parttype grouped by device (or anything else).


Time zone selection has been added in the DateOperation (Alerting Frontend and Alerting-Backend).

Alerting backend now supports global context.


New SenderDataArithmeticOperation to allow comparing the same metric with the previous value.


The Alerting Backend now supports global contexts. This feature is particularly useful when multiple alerts want to share a common configuration place.


The Alerting-Backend and APG-Backend now supports the channel-negotiation-connector by default. Compression and encryption are available if the client end requires it.

EMP-18736 Backends > Discovery Center

SolutionPacks can now configure their testing script to provide needed answers for the devices instead of asking them manually. Furthermore, some questions can be defined as preferences and their answers will be kept when the device needs to be rediscovered (Ex: change of credentials).


When enabled by the SolutionPack, discovering a device can lead to discovering other ones of the same type (Ex: siblings).

EMP-18732 Block > backend-tools A new SolutionPackBlock named backend-tools is available on new installations to configure the APG Backend settings.

EMP-4540 Block > generic-rsc Generic RSC now supports having FQDN names as the device name.

EMP-19319 Build System jTDS JDBC driver has been updated to version 1.3.1 in order to support SSL authentication for MS SQL Server (with Windows authentication). This fixes connectivity issues with the MS SQL Server SolutionPackBlock (collection) when SSL + windows authentication is required.

EMP-18902 Centralized-Management > Logs and Diagnostics

It is now possible to specify a maximum age limit in days (default is 5 days) for the diagnostic files (files with the ".log" extension) bundled with the user generated diagnostic compressed file. This can be overridden by setting the property "apg.cm.diagnostic.files.max-age". FileCollector and FileConnector file now have the ".txt" file extension instead of the ".log" file extension. They are no longer treated as log files, nor included in the user generated diagnostic compressed file. Note that only ".log" files appear in the logs view of Centralized Management.

EMP-17181 Centralized-Management > SolutionPacks

In Centralized-Management -> SolutionPacks node, it is now possible to install an orphan block (that does not belong to a specific SolutionPack).

EMP-18759 Collecting > Collector-Manager

The M&R platform can now use encryption and compression in more networking components (collectors, connectors, listeners, etc.).

EMP-4032 Collecting > Stream-Collector

The context of the http request-group can now be configured with the new element update-context-properties for local commands. This will help users know from which "execution path" they come from.

Stream collector now supports base16 encoding.


Stream collector now supports more HTTP verbs (HEAD, DELETE, PUT and PATCH).


A reuse connection element has been added in the HTTP and WBEM retrievers configuration to reuse the previously created connection in a stream handler chain. This will ease configuration since connections were previously shared in the HTTP and WBEM Request retrievers.


Inside the same data listener, it is now possible to configure/add specific properties per values. The element hardcoded-property must be specified in the configuration to enable this feature.


Improved null handling for Stream Collector metrics and properties.


Stream Collector Static Retriever and XSL Context Transformer now can be used to post-processing extracted data just before creating metrics and properties from it.


Stream Collector has a new feature allowing the storage and data retrieval across different polling cycles. This feature can be used for caching, incremental collection and temporary storage.


Support for AES256-CTR cipher algorithm is now included in the SSH library (requires Unlimited Strength Java(TM) Cryptography Extension Policy Files for the Java(TM) Platform, Standard Edition Runtime Environment 8). JSch library has been updated to 0.1.53 version to enable the AES256-CTR cipher.

Previously, connection timeout was hard-coded to 5 seconds. A new connection-timeout attribute was added to ease support for high latency connection to certain devices.


The XSL Context Transformer can now be defined with multiple stream retrievers.


Added possibility to request specific CIM properties in WBEM calls in the stream parser library.

The outdated viJava library was replaced by the yavijava library in order to account for API changes in vCenter 6 and up.

EMP-18756 Databases > Elasticsearch

A new SolutionPackBlock named Log Backend is available to receive, process, and store logs in elasticsearch.

EMP-19284 Databases > MySQL MySQL database has been updated to version 5.5.48. This version contains security fixes as well as various bug fixes and enhancements.

EMP-18770 Event-Processing > Event-Property-Tagger

The event property tagger has been improved to limit or reuse as much as possible the native representation of the event data. The event processing performance has therefore greatly increased.

EMP-14133 Event-Processing > Flow-Listener

The flow listener now supports the DSCP and ToS fields (quality of service fields) for the sFlow protocol.

EMP-16019 Filters > Variable-Handling-Filter

The TimestampFromPropertyHandler has been enhanced by adding the possibility to set the parsed timestamp on the RawValue's value, timestamp or another property.

EMP-18763 Installation Binary installer now supports silent installation. See product documentation on how to use this feature and install M&R in unattended mode.

EMP-19198 Installation The task-scheduler is now installed automatically for minimal & collector type of installations.

SolutionPacks now have access to an FTL directive to properly push tasks to the task-scheduler.

EMP-4448 Module-Manager On Linux, the service status command as been optimized so that the ownership of files in the installation folder is only changed for files that are not owned by the apg user. For example: /opt/APG/bin/manage-modules.sh service status all

EMP-16463 Module-Manager Windows services can now specify a domain account user.

EMP-18764 Module-Manager Delays have been introduced to spread services startup at boot time to avoid a massive surge in resource usage (Unix only).

EMP-18828 Other > Logging Time to load templates has been added to logs. This is helpful for troubleshooting slow logins.

EMP-19211 Other > Logging The audit log now tracks the various webapps startup and shutdown time and date.

EMP-18768 Other > Sun-JRE The M&R platform now provides a way to enable FIPS cryptographic provider mode.

EMP-3945 Reports The export format configuration is now available for both scheduling and emailing report actions. The report scheduling UI has been enhanced with new sections that include the export settings for PDF, CSV and Excel formats. "E-mail me" action takes the export configuration saved in the "Exports" menu.

EMP-18757 Reports > Cancellation Two distinct features were implemented to improve the report management: - Report cancellation: only one report is displayed at a time. For example, if displaying a report takes time and the user decides to display another report; the previous report will be aborted. - Report offloading: to off-load the server, the generation and rendering of reports triggered by "Store this report" and "E-mail me this report" actions are now dispatched to the Frontend-Report-Generator when they are not already in the server cache.

EMP-16239 Reports > Computation The new expansion cache configuration are introduced for the Flow DB accessors. EMP-5391 Reports > Creation When displaying two or more properties in table columns, the order of the expansions is now respected on every row.

EMP-18762 Reports > Display A new type of complex expansion is now available, 'grouping-ui', which is based on a hierarchy separator and an expansion separator ('/' and '|' by default with the grouping-ui PTF). A dialog in browse mode will allow the user to filter the report based primarily on a PTF group, but can be used with any expansion.

EMP-12530 Reports > Dynamic Graphs

The maximum number of points (values) that can be rendered in a dynamic charts has been increased to 10000 (per metric). This value can be changed with the newly added system property: dynamic.graph.max.line.length = n, where n represents the max number of data points (default is 10000).

EMP-7885 Reports > Export Topology reports are now exportable in PDF, PNG & JPEG formats.

EMP-18060 Reports > Export Exporting table reports within a mixed report now contains the correct tab names under Excel.

EMP-18247 Reports > Export Exporting a table report to Excel with colorized cells is now available.

EMP-18731 Reports > Scheduled New export settings have been added for XLS and CSV report exports: Export in 1 column, Title and Description display. All existing settings for scheduled reports are now exposed.

EMP-19127 Reports > Stored Important: All existing stored reports before update will become invalid and will be deleted. The reports are now hierarchically stored by report ID to improve frontend performance when handling large data in the Tomcat temp folder. This enhancement allows immediate lookup for a given report.

EMP-18730 Reports > Type > Tables Table report cell formatters have been refactored to display several representations of the value within the same cell. Cell text style is now configurable, regardless of content type.

EMP-18755 Reports > Type > Tables It is now possible to execute an action on multiple rows in a table report.

EMP-18760 Reports > Type > Tables A new option is available in table report configurations. In the advanced property section of table columns, you can now select to hide the column if it is empty.

EMP-17988 Reports > Type > Tabs Rendering dual level of tabs has been improved, to give a more compact look.

EMP-19945 Reports > Wiring A new dynamic lookup type was introduced for report wiring. It evaluates the path as a JSON query expression where context attributes can be used.

EMP-19197 SolutionPack for EMC M&R Health

Report Library Stress report under EMC M&R Health has been renamed to Alerts. The stress computation has been removed, and now only the highest severity decides the color of the component. Sizes are now fixed.


Health dashboards reports are now improved, to represent the 3 tier layout.


Health topology view now supports the channel negotiation connector and collector.

EMP-20360 Tools > Administration-Tool

It is now possible for SolutionPacks to include documentation for the properties they collect.

EMP-9999 Tools > APG-Diagnostic-Tools

The SNMP mibs folder is now included in the user generated diagnostic compressed file in order to better diagnose SNMP issues.


On Linux, the user generated diagnostic compressed file now clearly indicates if the server is virtualized.


The Failover, LoadBalancer and the Backend Backlog sizes are now saved in the diagnostic output.


Scheduled tasks statuses are now included in the diagnostic output.

The list of installed licenses and their statuses is now saved in the diagnostic output.

EMP-17032 Tools > Script Engine Script-Engine now supports iterations (loop). This is particularly useful when dealing with arrays of questions.

EMP-18754 Tools > Script Engine The script-engine now supports SNMP queries.

EMP-19606 Tools > Webservice-Gateway

Certificates in keystores and truststores for Centralized Management, Web-Service Gateway and collectors modules are now signed using the "SHA256withRSA" signature algorithm instead of the now insecure SHA-1 signature algorithm.

EMP-18769 Web-Applications > APG-Frontend

For events TopN reports, TopN expansion values are reused in the report, instead of letting the report re-fetch those same values from the database.


Routing flow reports database requests to the right “shards” (databases) to avoid unnecessary requests on available databases.


Pasting options for a copied report from the report tree has been improved.

EMP-18758 Web-Applications > M&R Essentials

This is a component that is only distributed in the essentials build. It will allow for the installation of the essentials product on a machine. Essentials bundles all of the features that are necessary for each of the technologies (VMAX, VNX, XtremIO, etc.) that it supports, while minimizing the size of the installed footprint. In essence, there is no difference between an essentials installation and an SRM installation, with the sole exception being that an essentials installation is limited to one technology.

EMP-19267 Web-Applications > M&R Essentials

Unix binary installer no longer ask questions for: * Use apg user by default, unless installing as non-root * init.d and rcd directories * Installation type, if only one is available * Detects previous installation on upgrade if using default installation path You can still override the user account, init.d and rcd directories using the command line switches.

EMP-18002 Web-Applications > REST API

A new REST API that allows querying of events and timeseries, as well as some of their related data (properties, and meta data) is now available.

EMP-19899 Web-Portal > Manage > Users

The administrator now has three options when managing user's custom reports option: * allow custom reports * not allowed * disabled (but keep existing reports) The new option "disabled" now prevents the user to see or edit custom reports, but does not delete previously created custom reports.

EMP-19610 Web-Portal > Tree The number of SolutionPack main report nodes that can be seen in the report tree navigation is now limited to 50.

Fixed issues

These releases fixed the following issues in EMC M&R.

Key Components Description


Adds the ability to set ElementClassName, ElementName and SourceDomainName in notifications created by the Alerting Backend.


Fixed an issue that was cutting the last character of some varbinds value when sending SNMP Traps to third party platform.


A new read timeout option on socket connectors was added to the Alerting Backend GUI. The connection closes after the specified time elapses with no data on the wire.


The Send to SAM action of the Alerting Backend used the hard-coded port number 426 for the broker. It is now using the specified port.


The Alerting Backend will no longer accept and process duplicate alert definitions.


The Alerting Backend will now starts even if there are duplicate entries in the alerting.xml. This solves an issue with duplicated alerts in XtremIO SolutionPack.


Alerting backend now has state cleanup tasks for time based stateful operations. Introduced new parameters "Cleaning time" and "State cleaning" for Data Arithmetic/Condition operations to configure the timeout. The default time is 6 hours.

EMP-17288 Backends > APG-Backend DB passwords are encrypted in the default configuration.

EMP-20196 Backends > APG-Backend The crypt-password tool under Microsoft Windows now loads the correct properties in order to be able to use custom encryption keys.


Discovery is crawling on all successful candidates extracted from device seeds.

EMP-19395 Block > alert-consolidation

Alert consolidation now correctly handles momentary events. Force close operation now correctly sets the ClosedAt field.

EMP-19000 Block > generic-rsc Discovery Center may display the username/password in FINEST logs when testing device within Generic-RSC. This is now fixed.

EMP-19518 Centralized-Management > Authentication Realm

Support was added to the "Keystone Tomcat authentication realm" for using "domain\username" as the username in addition to the already available "username". This will allow to have multiple identical users created with different domains.

EMP-19809 Centralized-Management > Data Enrichment

If a property-tagging-filter is defined as read only in Centralized-management, it's now possible to un-register it.

EMP-4208 Centralized-Management > Groups Management

If the same Property Tagging Filter instance name is installed on multiple servers, this can lead to a synchronization issue in the Group UI. This is now fixed.


Group-Management UI character encoding has been fixed so UTF-8 characters are now saved correctly in the file, regardless of file system configuration.


On a fresh installation, if a Property-Tagging-Filter does not provide the updated timestamp, the Group UI may not be able to update correctly. This is now fixed.

EMP-4199 Centralized-Management > Logs and Diagnostics

Diagnostic Log Collection might fail from GUI if webservice gateway becomes overloaded with queries or one or more servers are unreachable. This is now fixed.

EMP-18006 Centralized-Management > Physical Overview

Restarting unattended services (such as Tomcat and the Webservice Gateway) on the Centralized Management UI works correctly now.

EMP-18874 Centralized-Management > Physical Overview

The "Manually update to Latest version" button is now also present when accessing the module's description via the "SolutionPack & Modules" tab.

EMP-20226 Centralized-Management > System Upgrade

Improved Web Service Gateway resilience when the module manager gets updated, enabling System Updater and Centralized Manager to work even if there are residual files from the old instance.

EMP-19178 Collecting > SQL-Collector

Large result sets were sometimes leading to out of memory issues. This is now fixed.


The XML Dataset XPath crashes when an attribute string expression contains '[' or ']'. This is now fixed.


Fixed an issue where the stream-collector was not able to remotely create a recursive directory structure using a sftp connection.


Enhanced File Reader forked threads cleanup, with reduced CPU and Memory utilization and reduced collection time.

When enabling debug option for the stream-collector, it's now impossible to see encrypted passwords in logs.


Fixed a situation where there could be concurrent accesses to the vault from two separate writers. Now only one writer at a time can access the vault.


VMware collector may report small negative numbers for performance metrics. This is now fixed.


Enhanced the VMWare collector reconnect logic to handle connection drops more reliably.

EMP-4553 Event-Processing > Flow-Listener

The Flow Listener now correctly converts numeric, short and long types for DSCP.

EMP-19260 Filters > Property-Tagging-Filter

Enhanced the Property-Tagging-Filter's Property-Accessor to better handle network time outs while retrieving properties from a remote source. Added configurable connect/read time out value in the configuration to ensure connection actually times out after a specified delay and avoid blocking waiting processes.

EMP-18374 Module-Manager New backup rules and backup files naming convention were implemented for modules and product upgrades in order to avoid using old backed up configuration files.

EMP-19488 Module-Manager Fixed a condition where the "manage-module service <command> <id> all" command for a given ID (Ex: collector-manager) would only act on the first instance of many of that given ID.

EMP-19821 Module-Manager Fixes potential shutdown issues for services on RHEL6.

EMP-19857 Module-Manager On Linux systems running systemd (RHEL7/SLES12), shutdown scripts may not be properly called upon rebooting or shutting down Linux. This could lead to improper database shutdown, and potential data corruption. This is now fixed.

EMP-4110 Other > Formulas Fixed an issue where the "math.RoundUpToNextMultiple" formula would not properly round the result when the values were already on the given base.

EMP-19614 Other > Formulas The formula "util.NodeMaintenancePeriod" has been enhanced enabling post-processing on the result to enforce the node's maintenance period.

EMP-18042 Other > Sun-JRE Java SE 8u72 is now used.

EMP-20242 Other > Sun-JRE Updated the JRE to the latest version (8u92) available from Oracle for Critical Patch Update - April 2016.

EMP-4565 Other > Tomcat A thread leak can occur in Tomcat, when using the device discovery module. This is now fixed.

EMP-19789 Other > Tomcat When updating the Tomcat module, its Temp folder is now identified as a data folder. This will save a lot of space because module backups will no longer contain the temp folder content. Note that the Temp folder must already be identified as a data folder so the new behavior will take place only at the next module update.

EMP-19132 Reports > Computation Fixed a concurrency problem which could lead to high CPU utilization from the Tomcat service.

EMP-19564 Reports > Computation Reports based on a table (list reports and maps reports) that do not require generation are no longer sent to the Frontend-Report-Generator. They are directly e-mailed to the user or stored according to the user's request.

EMP-20067 Reports > Computation The table popup graph now uses the original column preferences at all time.

EMP-14483 Reports > Creation The exponential format is not used anymore when displaying threshold numbers.

EMP-18251 Reports > Display The time selection is now updated correctly when zooming on a single graph report.

EMP-19586 Reports > Display When using "allow higher periods to be selected" for a table value column, a specific use case where the data range was erroneously truncated has now been extended so all expected data points are used for calculation.

EMP-19633 Reports > Display When multiple databases are defined in the master database, hiding metrics in graphs now successfully recovers data from the database whose resource name has been defined with dashes.

EMP-19591 Reports > Dynamic Graphs

The property "dynamic.graph.max.line.length" now applies to dynamic line charts (simple chart, children-based chart, per children charts) and area charts (stacked charts): this property only applied to line charts in previous versions. The maximum number of points displayed on those charts is now 10000 (was 1000); a specific message is displayed if this number is exceeded.

EMP-18864 Reports > Export Exporting a list report with no child element (Excel, CSV, XML) fails, resulting in a NPE. This is now fixed.

EMP-19794 Reports > Export Exporting a tab report containing a mixed report containing a zoomed graph is now working.

EMP-19659 Reports > Favorites Favorites and scheduled reports for transient users are now cleaned up as orphaned links after 183 days (default) if the account login expiration is reached (per user). Previously, the expiration was wrongly calculated to 18.3 days.

EMP-19905 Reports > Report Wizard Quitting the Report Wizard tool now redirects in order of availability: 1. To the My Reports node, 2. To the user profile home report, 3. To the root page.

EMP-18116 Reports > Scheduled Scheduling a PDF report with no columns fails. This is now fixed.

EMP-19406 Reports > Scheduled When an failure occurred during report transfer to a remote location, the complete URL containing the password was appearing in the logs. In that case, the URL is not appearing in the logs anymore.

EMP-19998 Reports > Scheduled Fixes an issue with scheduled reports edition which was forcing the link to be based on the node ID.

EMP-19535 Reports > Stored Storing an interactive mixed report now uses the report settings from the current selection.

EMP-4172 Reports > Type > Geomaps

The tooltip popup for Geomap reports has been improved when for a given location, multiple devices are present. The tooltip UI is now clearer and more polished.

EMP-18716 Reports > Type > Geomaps

Changes made by Google in their Maps API broke compatibility with OpenLayers. We have implemented a fix for that.

EMP-4612 Reports > Type > Graphs The computation of the number of levels taken by expansions in treemaps is now properly done. For example, a formula added on the last node of the expansion is now available at the parent report level.

EMP-19148 Reports > Type > Lists The search results popup does not appear truncated anymore.

EMP-18794 Reports > Type > Overlay Fixed disappearance of events when zooming on the graph.

EMP-18913 Reports > Type > Tables If a table contains many columns, users may not be able to customize them in browse mode and may get an error 400 (Bad request). This is now fixed.

EMP-19119 Reports > Type > Tables Table reports can now be filtered on property, attribute and value columns.

EMP-19922 Reports > Type > Tables Fixed an issue where the "All" paging value would not be available when the set paging value would be higher than the total amount of rows in the report.

EMP-16671 Reports > Type > Tabs Only the report under the selected tab will be stored when storing a multi-Tab report.


If topology data from various sources is available in the system, maps with non-health related data can appear under the Topology map of the Health SolutionPack. This is now fixed.


Under Backend file processing report, the < 1 min. (%) column is now reporting major and Critical flags for process data to the databases only when necessary.

Alerts can be acknowledged in the M&R Health report Stress>>Components.


The EMC NCM metrics are now reported in the "Metric count per SolutionPack" health report.


If multiple frontend configuration is used, the total number of metrics is now correct in M&R Health Global Summary report.


The filter on vstatus property on the JVMs Sizing recommendation report has been fixed so latest data is appearing in the report.


Metric count per SolutionPack report now takes into account ECS and XtremIO metrics.


Multiple centralized-management (certificate authority) is now supported when rendering Health topology maps.

EMP-17899 Tools > Frontend-Report-Generator

Special characters in scheduled report names can cause scheduled reports to hang. This is now fixed.

EMP-18747 Tools > Script Engine WinRM 2.0 encryption over HTTP was not handled properly. This is now fixed.

EMP-19594 Tools > Webservice-Gateway

Password encryption is now allowed in gateway server/client configuration and default passwords are now encrypted.

EMP-16821 Web-Applications Login form for VNX M&R now disables storing the password in browsers.

EMP-20286 Web-Applications A user is no longer allowed to delete himself to make sure an administrator always exists.


The mail settings are now shared across webapps and Tomcat does not need to be restarted to apply them.


Events property mapping ignored the timezone of the report. This is now fixed.


When reviewing a large interactive custom report, an error may be seen while generating a step report. This is now fixed.


Fixed a memory leak problem in Tomcat startup.


Fixed the "Select visible only" button functionality when displaying "All" entries for stored reports in portal administration.


When editing report formatters, HTTP GET methods are now used instead of JSON. It is considered more secure especially in reverse proxy configuration.

Report wizard was disabled for VNX users due to the fact they were created without custom tree. This has been fixed.

EMP-17349 Web-Applications > VNX-Management

In VNX M&R, unable to edit or delete a system with special characters in system name. This is now fixed.

A transient user can now login directly to Centralized-Management.

EMP-20077 Web-Portal > Search When the frontend search results contain a single entry, this entry is no longer duplicated in the resulting report.

EMP-18847 Web-Portal > Variable Management

The variable management UI was unable to correctly escape characters when displaying a property with html tags. This is now fixed.

Environment and system requirements

The list of supported environments has been modified since EMC M&R 6.6. Use the following information for operating systems and internet browsers.

Operating system requirements:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux: 5 (64-bit), 6 (64-bit), 7 (64-bit)

CentOS: 5 (64-bit), 6 (64-bit), 7 (64-bit)

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES): 11 (64-bit)

Microsoft Windows: Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, Server 2012 R2

Browser requirements:

Google Chrome: Latest (Full support)

Internet Explorer: 9 (Full support), 10 (Full support), 11 (Full support), Edge (Full support)

Mozilla Firefox: Latest (Full support)

Apple Safari: Latest (Full support)

Full support includes report viewing and browsing, plus support for interactive tables and graphs, topology maps, and administration tasks (user management, enrichment GUI, alerting GUI, and so on).

Known problems and limitations

EMC M&R contains the following known problems and limitations.

Known Problems No Workarounds


EMP-20208 Block > backend-tools The backend tools isn't installed automatically upon upgrade. Since the previous backend configuration can potentially be incompatible with the new backend-tool, automatic migration isn't performed. Please see Upgrade Guide of M&R to get instructions on how to achieve manual upgrade, if your backend is compatible with the backend tool.


In the SolutionPacks view, for a specific SolutionPack block, when the column "Version" shows "1.0" and the column "SolutionPack(s) Version" shows "1.0 to 1.0.1", the meaning is unclear. This situation occurs when the SolutionPack block v1.0 is part of the SolutionPack v1.0 and v1.0.1 because the block has not changed since v1.0 of the SolutionPack. This assumes that both SolutionPack versions are present in the Module Repository (/opt/APG/Tools/Module-Repository).


Some Solaris hosts may fail discovery, since the upgrade of JSch to 0.1.53. It is recommended to upgrade the sshd of your Solaris host, to use a more recent version that supports stronger algorithms.

EMP-19649 Module-Manager > System Upgrade

When updating the EMC M&R Health SolutionPack, the new "events" block isn't installed automatically. The new block is available through the SolutionPack Center, and must be installed on all required servers, in order to report event based health (new in latest SolutionPack version).

EMP-7668 Reports > Display When applying a graph customization (color, line type, point type) with a dynamic graph, the zoom level is reset to the graph default level.

EMP-7788 Reports > Display The incorrect number of TopN results may be returned when multiple properties are used.

EMP-10257 Reports > Display The color picker plugin only works on mouse drag, and not on mouse click.

EMP-12221 Reports > Display In status reports, values containing more than 7 digits or scientific noted values may exceed the maximum space and appear truncated.

EMP-15218 Reports > Display In table reports, values returned in a spark line cell and a value with graph cell may differ slightly because they do not gather the data in the exact same way.

EMP-16215 Reports > Display If the report you are pinning has a complex expansion as one of its ancestors, there is a high likelihood that the view will be duplicated several times.

EMP-16807 Reports > Display Formulas that return null values cause unconnected dots on simple line chart graphs. If you must display connected lines in the graph, use an intermediate formula to filter out NaN values.

EMP-18260 Reports > Display The table column sorting default behavior has changed in 6.6. The sorting now tries to filter all the numerical and then the rest in alphabetical order. In 6.5 and older releases, everything was sorted in alphabetical order.

EMP-12195 Reports > Export Axis scale values may differ between a dynamic graph report and its PDF export version. Log axis are not supported in dynamic charts.

EMP-12172 Reports > Scheduled Selecting a row inside an interactive table and then scheduling that report results in a report as if the first row is selected.

EMP-12384 Reports > Stored The selection of the stored versions of a given report requires a full scan of all the stored reports. Every file has to be loaded, as it is required to know which report is stored inside the file (it can't guess using the name or path of the file). Such a load might be costly when the files are on the report generator server.

EMP-17229 Reports > Type > Tables Suggestions are not supported for events. (By suggestions, we mean typing a value in the filter field without using ENTER to see suggested values).


After installation of Essentials, you may see a "Connection error on component APG_HEALTH" error in the alert console. This error can safely be ignored/acknowledged.


When running a slave frontend configuration, EMC M&R Health topology may be broken, due to multiple ip property for the same device. There is currently no work around.

EMP-17207 Web-Applications > APG-Web-Service

The default thread limits on some Linux distributions are too low for EMC M&R in a production environment. We suggest setting the ulimits at 65534 for the user apg as follows: apg hard nofile 65534 apg soft nofile 65534 apg hard nproc 65534 apg soft nproc 65534 For example, on Suse, Redhat, and Centos, these limits are set to 1024 by default.

EMP-12314 Web-Applications > Centralized-Management

On a Windows installation, useless warnings may appear in the Tomcat logs when the system is unable to retrieve health data. These warnings may be caused by java processes exiting during the collect, for example when a scheduled task execution completes. It does not affect the system’s operations.

EMP-9623 Web-Applications > SNMP Collector

When importing SNMP agents with same IP address, it shows that multiple agents were updated.

EMP-4436 Web-Portal > Search The search generator is based on properties and each property supports one icon, unlike the topology report that permits multiple icons.

EMP-17817 Web-Portal > Search Front-end search does not support case-insensitive requests which contain wildcards.

Known Problems Workarounds Exist



After installing a Report SolutionPack Block, the users must logout and then login to ensure the new reports appear in their report tree. To perform a reconfigure action, go to the Centralized-Management GUI, choose “SolutionPacks” in the navigation tree, choose your SolutionPack, click the pen icon next to the SolutionPack Block, as if you want to “Reconfigure given answers”. Leave your previously entered answers, and click on the “Reconfigure” button.

EMP-19281 Collecting > Load-Balancer

A warning can occur when the channel-negotiation components (collector and connector) are used. This is caused because the server is not providing enough entropy but is harmless because the component has a fallback mechanism to another random generation mechanism when this happens. The only way to get rid of the warning is to install an entropy generator such as haveged or rngd which will generate more entropy for application to be consumed.

EMP-15298 Databases > MySQL In some rare cases, MySQL backup tables may remain when the optimize task fails to complete. Manual intervention is required in order to repair those tables before re-attempting to run the optimize task.

EMP-12404 Event-Processing > BroadSoft-VoIP-Collector

Because the JDBC drivers are no longer packaged with modules, the collector cannot create its database schema at installation. This task must be done manually before starting the collector using the DDL file containing the definition. See the SolutionPack-specific documentation that installs this collector for more details on the DB schema creation.

EMP-17554 Reports > Display Horizontal Bars: When we have multiple groups of expansion, the customization of "Child report name" applies to the value of the last expanded group only.

EMP-17931 Tools > Frontend-Report-Generator

If you are updating your M&R installation and you are using the Alert on report functionality in the frontend, it is advisable to also update the Alerting backend module so the alert adapter is recreated properly to process new report alerts.
