SOLUTION OVERVIEW EMC Engineering, Plant, and Facilities Management (EPFM) Solution Lower project risk, improve collaboration, and ensure EHS compliance Organizations that design, construct, operate and maintain large plants and facilities are facing growing competition and increased EHS (environmental, health, and safety) oversight. To help them address these critical business challenges, EMC offers a series of EPFM solutions to improve plant operation and maintenance, while ensuring EHS regulatory compliance. During the six phases on the lifecycle of a plant (feasibility, design, construct, operate, renew, and decommission), significant content and processes are shared between individuals and internal and external organizations. As a result, project owners face several critical issues. Information is often lost between project phases, which delays completion and increases overall project cost. The lack of integration between custom-built systems drives up IT costs. And the risks and costs of non- compliance with EHS regulations are unacceptably high. Implementation of the EMC ® Documentum ® -based Engineering, Plant, and Facilities Management (EPFM) solution ensures compliance with industry regulations to reduce the risk of plant shutdown and downtime, The solution provides secure, efficient access to ”as built” engineering drawings enterprise-wide, as well as across enterprise boundaries, streamlining business processes that rely upon efficient access to engineering content. The solution also reduces user training and deployment costs and enables interoperability between applications. Guiding principles Three key guiding principles were used to develop the EPFM solution: Industry standards The solution follows industry best practices, metadata, and standards, accelerating time-to-value and improving the ROI timeline. Business readiness Focused on configuration instead of customization, the solution is business-ready and can be easily adapted to the changing needs of the project owner. Interoperability With a standard architecture, the solution ensures interoperability between the various applications, resulting in lower TCO (total cost of ownership) and a true enterprise-level system. A solid foundation—Documentum With a single platform, Documentum enables you to collaboratively create, manage, deliver, and archive the content that drives business operations. The Documentum platform makes it possible to distribute all of this content across internal and external systems, applications, and user communities. The EPFM solution is a best-practice implementation of Documentum, greatly simplifying the complexities of content management. The solution follows a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and has been designed for rapid deployment and easy adoption. The Big Picture • Accelerate project execution by optimizing critical business processes with EMC Documentum • Reduce unplanned plant downtime by delivering the right content faster • Improve the plant handover process by securely managing key project data • Lower the risk of EHS non-compliance by improving collaboration inside and outside the firewall • Optimize the plant maintenance process with enterprise content management (ECM) and maintenance systems integration

EMC Engineering, Plant, and Facilities Management (EPFM) Solution

Lower project risk, improve collaboration, and ensure EHS complianceOrganizations that design, construct, operate and maintain large plants and facilities are facing

growing competition and increased EHS (environmental, health, and safety) oversight. To help them

address these critical business challenges, EMC offers a series of EPFM solutions to improve plant

operation and maintenance, while ensuring EHS regulatory compliance.

During the six phases on the lifecycle of a plant (feasibility, design, construct, operate, renew, and

decommission), significant content and processes are shared between individuals and internal and

external organizations. As a result, project owners face several critical issues. Information is often

lost between project phases, which delays completion and increases overall project cost. The lack

of integration between custom-built systems drives up IT costs. And the risks and costs of non-

compliance with EHS regulations are unacceptably high.

Implementation of the EMC® Documentum®-based Engineering, Plant, and Facilities Management

(EPFM) solution ensures compliance with industry regulations to reduce the risk of plant shutdown

and downtime, The solution provides secure, efficient access to ”as built” engineering drawings

enterprise-wide, as well as across enterprise boundaries, streamlining business processes that rely

upon efficient access to engineering content. The solution also reduces user training and deployment

costs and enables interoperability between applications.

Guiding principlesThree key guiding principles were used to develop the EPFM solution:

Industry standardsThe solution follows industry best practices, metadata, and standards, accelerating time-to-value and

improving the ROI timeline.

Business readinessFocused on configuration instead of customization, the solution is business-ready and can be easily

adapted to the changing needs of the project owner.

InteroperabilityWith a standard architecture, the solution ensures interoperability between the various applications,

resulting in lower TCO (total cost of ownership) and a true enterprise-level system.

A solid foundation—DocumentumWith a single platform, Documentum enables you to collaboratively create, manage, deliver, and archive

the content that drives business operations. The Documentum platform makes it possible to distribute

all of this content across internal and external systems, applications, and user communities.

The EPFM solution is a best-practice implementation of Documentum, greatly simplifying the complexities

of content management. The solution follows a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and has been designed

for rapid deployment and easy adoption.
