Confession and Forgiveness

P: In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen.

P: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:8) Silence is kept for reflection.

P: Gracious God, C: have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you and given

ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry and humbly repent. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things we have done and things we have failed to do. Turn us again to you, and uphold us by your Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in newness of life through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake, God forgives us all our sins. In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven and all that is Christ’s is yours.

Gospel Luke 16:19-31 [Jesus said:] 19“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man’s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. 22The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

THE MEAL All Baptized Christians are welcome to join with us in this meal where we believe the true body and blood of Christ are present in, with, and under the bread and wine. We commune by “Intinction.” As you are ushered forward, extend your hand to receive the bread (or ask for a gluten free wafer), and then dip it into either the first cup with red wine or second cup with white grape juice. After you receive the Supper, you are also welcome to go to the altar rail for a brief time of prayer and meditation. Adults who do not receive the Supper or children who have not received First Communion instruction are encouraged to come forward for a blessing. If you have not been baptized, one of our pastors would welcome a conversation with you about Baptism.
