Why do we need Gas Density Monitoring? GIS Age Profile (2017)
Reference: CIGRE 2016, Paris ** Simulated dates for illustration purposes
Siemens Monitoring Products are easy to retrofit on all brands, supporting in tackling the upcoming challenges.
Despite robustness, the worldwide GIS installation comes to age and rising failure rates are expected. !

Why do we need Gas Density Monitoring? GIS Failure Reasons
Gas Density Monitoring
Assetguard GDM
Assetguard GDM supports on avoiding unplanned downtime.
GIS failure leads to unplanned downtime, jeopardizing Network performance or industrial processes !

Why do we need Gas Density Monitoring? The Greenhouse Effect The GIS insulation gas SF6 is one of the worst greenhouse gases for our atmosphere. One kilogram of SF6 equals 22,8 tons of CO2. The CO2 equivalent of contained SF6 in a typical GIS Bay (~80kg) equals 15’000’000 km driven with a regular car.
Assetguard GDM supports to safe the environment and fulfill the regulatory requirements.
Different regulatory entities either reward saving of SF6 gas or punish its loss.
= ~ 80 kg SF6 ~ 1824 tons of CO2 (each car in Australia can drive one kilometer)

Assetguard GDM Integrated Substation Condition Monitoring (ISCM™)
Seamless field device Integration • With limited configuration the ISCM receives data (measurements, alarms, predictions) from 50 field devices at the same time
• An industrial PC hosts the software components for the communication with the field devices
• The Industrial PC is designed for 24-hour continuous operation, fulfilling temperature, vibration, shock and EMC requirements
• The ISCM Software runs on various operating system i.e. Windows or Linux
• Interconnection is achieved thanks to a network LAN Switch, typically Siemens RUGGEDCOM devices

SF6 Historical Data
Historical Data is stored at least for 5 years. Based on a user-selected period of time, the Historical Data is easily visualized in a chart. For single sensors or complete Substations an Alarm Report or SF6 Gas Inventory can be easily exported as a PDF or Excel file.

Event Scheduler Maintenance Mode
Only authorized Users are able to (de)active the Maintenance Mode
A calendar facilitates the handling of future events i.e. predictions, allowing the customer to plan in advance the maintenance activities. During commissioning or during maintenance activities, sensors can be set into ‚Maintenance Mode‘. Thus the data that is generated would not be considered as part of the normal substation operation.
Predictions are handled as future Events!!
