DX - AIR COOLED SYSTEMS

Air Cooled(Models CCU/D-( )-A)

The system shall be a remote (split)air cooled, floor mounted precision airconditioner evaporator. The evapora-tor section shall house, as a mini-mum, the evaporator coil, expansionvalve, compressor, evaporator blower/motor and associated electrical andrefrigeration components.

The CCU/D-( )-A evaporator sectionshall be located at some distancefrom its corresponding SATS modelWCS-( ) outdoor air cooled con-denser.

The evaporator system shall requireonly single point main power supplyconnection; and the system shallship from the SATS factory with adry nitrogen holding charge ready forfield refrigerant (R-22) charging.

Remote Outdoor Condenser(Models WCS-( )-( )

The system shall be a remoteoutdoor air cooled condenser withdirect-driven propeller fan(s). Thecondenser cabinet shall house thecondenser coil, fan(s) and fanmotor(s) and condenser motorcontrol / enabling box. Thecompressor(s) shall be located withthe CCU/D-( )-A evaporator section.

The condenser shall be sized toprovide the total heat of rejection ofthe system at a 95°F DB ambienttemperature for the correspondingMini-Space model CCU/D-( )-Aevaporator.

Chilled Water Control Valve:

Cooling capacity shall be controlledwith a factory installed 3-way modu-lating control valve rated for 300 psig.

The supplied system shall beprovided with ETL Certification.

The environmental control systemshall be a SATS Mini-Space,factory-assembled, Precision A/Cunit. The unit shall be designed forcorner installation, requiring frontonly access through a removablefront access panel. No allowance forside service access shall be re-quired. The Mini-Space SeriesPrecision A/C units are especiallyadapted to raised floors and areavailable in both down-flow and up-flow air pattern configurations. Theevaporator section shall be specifi-cally designed for high sensible heatratio.

The system shall be manufacturedby Stulz Air Technology Systems,Inc. in Frederick, Maryland, USA.

100% Front Access

The air conditioner shall require frontonly access for all routinelymaintenanced components. Noallowance for side service accessshall be required.

Cabinet Construction

Access panels shall be fabricatedfrom heavy gauge steel and shall besecurely attached to the base andtop plates. Both access panels shallbe powder coated to match andprovide corrosion protection. Thepanels shall be lined with 1/2" (13mm), 2 lb (.90 kg), high-densitysound and thermal insulation andsealed with self-extinguishinggasketing conforming to NFPA 90Aand 90B.

GENERAL GUIDE SPECIFICATION

General Description

The SATS Mini-Space vertical floor-mounted air conditioning systemshall provide precision temperatureand humidity control for computerrooms or rooms containing telecom-

Modular Motor Controllers

The system shall incorporatemodular motor controllers utilizingmotor start protectors and circuitbreakers eliminating the need forfusing, as well as providing:

Motor branch circuit short circuitprotection

Motor load switching controllers(contactors)

Motor overload protection

The system shall incorporate over-current and overload protection inaccordance with UL 1995 require-ments. Each blower motor, com-pressor, electric heater stage andhumidifier (if applicable) shall beprovided with a factory mounted andwired starter/contactor.The control circuit shall be a 24 VACClass 2 low voltage circuit includinga circuit breaker for protection. Lowvoltage, high voltage and groundingwires shall be color coded and shallbe individually numbered at eachend for ease of service tracing. Allwiring shall be in accordance withthe National Electric Code (NEC).

DX Evaporator Coils

The system shall be configured for adraw-thru air pattern to provideuniform air distribution over the coilface. The coils shall be designed toprovide maximum coil surface areaand minimum depth to provide a highsensible cooling capacity. The coilsshall be seamless drawn coppertubes, mechanically bonded totempered aluminum fins with araised lanced fin design for maxi-mum heat transfer. Coil end platesshall be hot dipped galvanized steel.The evaporator coil shall be mountedin an insulated aluminum condensatedrain pan. Refrigerant flow shall becontrolled by an externally equalizedthermostatic expansion valve.

Chilled Water System

Cooling Coil:The chilled water coil shall be con-structed of seamless drawn coppertubes, mechanically bonded totempered aluminum fins for maxi-mum heat transfer. Coil end platesshall be hot dipped galvanized.

The cooling coil shall be mounted inan insulated aluminum condensatedrain pan.

CW Control Valve:

Cooling capacity shall be controlledby a factory installed 3-way, modulat-ing control valve rated for a maximum300 psig w.w.p.Note: 2-way valves are optionallyavailable, page 3-12.

Blowers / Motors

Direct-Driven Systems(Models CCU/CCD-41 to 121)

The blower shall be direct-driven withdouble-width, double-inlet housingand forward-curved blades. Theblower shall be dynamically andstatically balanced to minimizevibration and operate in the Class 1

Included in the system’s electricalcontrol circuit shall be a 2–pinterminal connection for remote stop/start of the Mini-Space air condi-tioner by remote source.

Main Power Service Switch

The indoor evaporator shall beprovided with a unit mounted mainpower service switch. The serviceswitch shall be a dust-proof, non-fused type with lockable handle.

DX Refrigeration System

All refrigeration piping shall berefrigerant grade tubing. Eachrefrigerant circuit shall include, as aminimum a refrigerant drier/strainer,sight glass with moisture detector, athermal expansion valve with rapidbleed port feature and externalequalizer, an evaporator coil, acompressor, a high pressure switchwith manual reset and a low pressureswitch with automatic reset.

Split/ Remote systems shall have aliquid line solenoid for refrigerantisolation to prevent liquid slugging. Allhigh pressure joints shall be brazed,and the entire system shall bepressure tested at the factory with drynitrogen, evacuated to at least 50microns and fully charged withrefrigerant.Note: All split / remote DX systemsship with a dry nitrogen holding charge.All self-contained DX systems ship witha full refrigerant (R-22) operatingcharge.

Scroll Compressors

The compressor shall be a highefficiency, high reliability and lownoise scroll compressor. The com-

Sensor LocationAs a standard, the C-1002 shall beprovided with an internal tempera-ture/humidity sensor.

Remote Sensor OptionThe C-1002 temperature and humid-ity sensor shall be shipped loose forremote wall mounting. Interconnectcabling shall not be provided as thestandard with the remote sensoroption, but an optional 75 ft. cable or150 ft. cable is also available.

Recovery Delay:After a power loss, the C-1002’sRecovery Delay feature allows thePrecision A/C to operate withoutinitiating any high or low temperatureor humidity alarms for a delayedperiod. This feature allows the A/Ctime (15 to 60 minutes adj.) to “pull-down” the conditioned space’s loadwithout nuisance alarms during initialstartup or power loss restart.

Cold Start Time Delay:Each compressor of a DX Splitsystem shall be provided with the C-1002’s Cold Start compressor timedelay. The Cold Start timer delaysand therefore, overrides the system’srefrigerant low suction pressureswitch during system startup. Thisallows the system time to buildsufficient discharge pressure duringcold weather startup.

Steam Generating HumidifierCanister Steam Humidification:(standard)

The humidifier shall be an electrodesteam canister type and shall havean adjustable humidity output settingfrom 25 to 100% of the full ratedhumidifier capacity. The humidifiershall incorporate an automatic flushcycle that senses the current con-sumption of the humidifier and controlsmineral concentration of the water. A“Change Cylinder” light shall notifyservice personnel when the humidifi-cation output is below ratedrequirements and when maintenanceis due.

Dehumidification Cycle: (standard)The floor A/C shall be provided with arefrigeration based dehumidificationmode. Moisture is condensed on thecooling coil and discharged throughthe condensate drain. The CompTrol 5000® (C-5000) is acomplete microprocessor basedcontrol system designed for operat-ing, controlling and monitoring theprecision air conditioning unit.

The C-5000 controller shall include afull-featured LCD graphical displayfor visual indication of the unitoperating conditions.

USER INTERFACE:

The User Interface shall feature aneasy to read, liquid-crystal, graphicaldisplay. The attractive unit mountedinterface, allows the operator to

visually monitor and customize unitfunctions and settings. The controlleris operated via a 4-key menu-drivenwindows type structure, in threedifferent modes; Information, Opera-tion, and Service.

FIELD CONFIGURABLE:The C-5000 controller is field pro-gram configurable and capable ofmatching the unique needs of anydata center, telecommunication orother critical area.

POWER LOSS RESTART:

In the event of a loss of power to thesystem, the C-5000 can be config-ured for Automatic or Manual Re-start. The C-5000’s non-volatilememory enables the system torestart when power is restored,without the loss of the “last” storedsetpoints and other system configu-ration settings.

Sequential Load Activation:To minimize the total in rush currentloads during system startup/restart,the C-5000 controller shall beconfigured for time-delay sequencestartup. The user can designatespecific unit restart time-delays, aswell as, each unit’s respectivecompressor, electric heater and/orhumidifier. Unit restart delay can beadjusted from 0 to 10 minutes. Unitcompressor, electric heater and/orhumidifier restart delay can beadjusted from 0 to 60 seconds.

Recovery Delay:After a power loss, the C-5000’sRecovery Delay feature allows thePrecision A/C to operate withoutinitiating any high or low temperatureor humidity alarms for a delayedperiod. This feature allows the A/Ctime (15 to 60 minutes adj.) to “pull-down” the conditioned space’s loadwithout nuisance alarms during initialstartup or power loss restart.

COMPRESSOR OPERATIONS:

Short Cycle Protection:Each compressor shall be protectedfrom frequent compressor cyclingthrough the C-5000’s minimum

compressor ON and minimumcompressor OFF short cycle timers.

Cold Start Time Delay:Each compressor of a DX SplitSystem shall be provided with the C-5000’s Cold Start compressor timedelay. The Cold Start timer delays,and therefore, overrides the system’srefrigerant low suction pressureswitch during system startup. Thisallows the system time to buildsufficient discharge pressure duringcold weather startup.

Adjustable Floor Stand:

OPTIONALTURNING VANE

An adjustable floor stand shall beprovided to allow for ease of installa-tion of the unit onto a raised floor.Floor stand height shall range(nominal 12", 18", & 24") and shallhave field adjustment capability.

Remote Water Detector:

A remote single point water/leakdetector shall be included to provideadditional safety to the standardcondensate pan safety float. Uponsensing a water leak, the normallyclosed water detector control circuitopens, which will cause the airconditioner to shut down.

Dual (two) - Spot Type Detectors:

Quantity 2 (two) remote spot typewater/leak detectors per A/C unitshall be factory provided for remotefield installation. Upon sensing awater leak, the normally closed waterdetector control circuit opens, whichwill cause the air conditioner to shutdown.

Remote Water Detector- Strip Type:

A 25 ft. in length remote strip/cabletype water/leak detector shall beprovided for remote field installation.Upon sensing a water leak, thenormally closed water detectorcontrol circuit shall open, therebyshutting down the A/C unit

Condensate Pump:

A high capacity, high temperaturecondensate pump shall be providedfor automatic removal of condensateand humidifier flush water (if appli-cable). The condensate pump shallbe specifically designed to operatewith the higher condensate tempera-tures caused by the flush and draincycle of the electrode canisterhumidifiers. As a standard thecondensate pump shall ship loosefor field installation on all systems.Factory installation of the conden-sate pump is available as an optionon models CCU-171 and CCU-201(upflow).

Smoke Detection:

A photoelectric smoke detector shallbe factory installed and wired in theevaporator section of the suctionside of the evaporator blower. Theair conditioner will shut down uponsensing smoke in the return airstream.

Firestat:

The air conditioner shall be providedwith a factory wired and mounted
