One Direction is one of the biggest boy bands in the world right now but did you know that one of the members of 1D is Irish? Niall Horan is from Mullingar and was into music at a young age. He started playing the guitar when he was twelve and one year later he entered his school's talent show. He didn't win but got a lot of local press attention and positive comments. In 2010, Niall entered the X Factor. He sang 'I'm Yours’ and 'So Sick' in his audition and got through to the next round. At boot camp, Niall, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were put together to form a band, One Direction. They came third on the show, and the next day their mentor, Simon Cowell, gave them a record deal. One Direction is so popular now that they have 20 bodyguards each at their concerts!

Emma is 19 and is into rock music. She can’t sing very well but she can play the guitar and is a good dancer. She is friendly and outgoing. Emma hates pop music but really wants to be famous.

Katie is 23 and has been singing all her life. She is an excellent singer but wants to be a solo artist. She gets on well with everyone but is a little shy. She wants to write her own songs.

Mark is into disco and pop music. He isn’t a very good singer but can dance. He is outgoing and confident and likes to show off. He doesn’t like being told what to do.

Paul is 29. He has been singing all his life at weddings and in bars but has never become famous. He is a good singer and writes his own music. He works well with others and is a fast learner. It is his dream to be in a famous rock band and he would do anything to achieve his goal.

Dan is 17 and is into hip hop. He is an excellent dancer and rapper. He took singing lessons when he was younger but prefers to rap. He is confident but has never been away from his family before.

Alex is 21 and is into rap and pop music. He can play the guitar and drums. He is a good singer and can beatbox. He gets on well with everyone, is a talented dancer but sometimes gets stage fright.

Laura is a talented DJ. She can mix songs and plays the piano, guitar and saxophone. She is into pop, electro and drum and bass music. She is also a good rapper. She is confident, intelligent but sometimes a little lazy.
