Elphaba Beanie Hat Worsted weight yarn and size H hook. The beanie crochets up a bit tight. This is because crochet will stretch. If it fit to size without a bit of stretch, it would end up too loose after the first wearing. Using Magic Loop – SC 6, close loop & join with slip stitch R1 – Ch1, 2 SC in each chain around, join with Slip Stitch (12 SC) R2 – Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC in same stitch, [DC in next stitch, 2 DC in next stitch]5 times, DC in last stitch. Join with slip stitch in top of starting Ch2. (18 stitches). From this point on – Rounds 3 through 12, you will be making your stitches BETWEEN the stitches from the previous round, instead of in the stitches themselves. R3 – Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC BETWEEN first two DC of previous row, *DC in next space between stitches 2 times, 2 DC in next space between stitches. Repeat from * 4 more times. DC in next space between stitches 2 times. Join with slip stitch in top of starting Ch2. (24 stitches). R4 Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC BETWEEN first two DC of previous row, *DC in next space between stitches 3 times, 2 DC in next space between stitches. Repeat from * 4 more times. DC in next space between stitches 3 times. Join with slip stitch in top of starting Ch2. (30 stitches). R5 Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC BETWEEN first two DC of previous row, *DC in next space between stitches 4 times, 2 DC in next space between stitches. Repeat from * 4 more times. DC in next space between stitches 4 times. Join with slip stitch in top of starting Ch2. (36 stitches). R6 Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC BETWEEN first two DC of previous row, *DC in next space between stitches 5 times, 2 DC in next space between stitches. Repeat from * 4 more times. DC in next space between stitches 5 times. Join with slip stitch in top of starting Ch2. (42 stitches). R7 Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC BETWEEN first two DC of previous row, *DC in next space between stitches 6 times, 2 DC in next space between stitches. Repeat from * 4 more times. DC in next space between stitches 6 times. Join with slip stitch in top of starting Ch2. (48 stitches). R8 through R12 – Slip Stitch into first space between DC stitches of previous row. Ch2 (counts as first DC). DC in each space between stitches of previous row. Join with slip stitch. R13 – Slip Stitch into first space between DC stitches of previous round. Elphaba  Beanie  Hat        

Worsted  weight  yarn  and  size  H  hook.  

The  beanie  crochets  up  a  bit  tight.    This  is  because  crochet  will  stretch.    If  it  fit  to  size  without  a  bit  of  stretch,  it  would  end  up  too  loose  after  the  first  wearing.  

Using  Magic  Loop  –  SC  6,  close  loop  &  join  with  slip  stitch  

R1  –  Ch1,  2  SC  in  each  chain  around,  join  with  Slip  Stitch  (12  SC)  

R2  –  Ch  2  (counts  as  first  DC),  DC  in  same  stitch,  [DC  in  next  stitch,  2  DC  in  next  stitch]5  times,  DC  in  last  stitch.  Join  with  slip  stitch  in  top  of  starting  Ch2.  (18  stitches).  

From  this  point  on  –  Rounds  3  through  12,  you  will  be  making  your  stitches  BETWEEN  the  stitches  from  the  previous  round,  instead  of  in  the  stitches  themselves.

R4  -­‐  Ch  2  (counts  as  first  DC),  DC  BETWEEN  first  two  DC  of  previous  row,  *DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  3  times,  2  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches.  Repeat  from  *  4  more  times.  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  3  times.  Join  with  slip  stitch  in  top  of  starting  Ch2.    (30  stitches).  

R5  -­‐  Ch  2  (counts  as  first  DC),  DC  BETWEEN  first  two  DC  of  previous  row,  *DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  4  times,  2  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches.  Repeat  from  *  4  more  times.  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  4  times.  Join  with  slip  stitch  in  top  of  starting  Ch2.    (36  stitches).  

R6  -­‐  Ch  2  (counts  as  first  DC),  DC  BETWEEN  first  two  DC  of  previous  row,  *DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  5  times,  2  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches.  Repeat  from  *  4  more  times.  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  5  times.  Join  with  slip  stitch  in  top  of  starting  Ch2.    (42  stitches).  

R7  -­‐  Ch  2  (counts  as  first  DC),  DC  BETWEEN  first  two  DC  of  previous  row,  *DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  6  times,  2  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches.  Repeat  from  *  4  more  times.  DC  in  next  space  between  stitches  6  times.  Join  with  slip  stitch  in  top  of  starting  Ch2.  (48  stitches).  

R8  through  R12  –  Slip  Stitch  into  first  space  between  DC  stitches  of  previous  row.  Ch2  (counts  as  first  DC).  DC  in  each  space  between  stitches  of  previous  row.  Join  with  slip  stitch.  

R13  –  Slip  Stitch  into  first  space  between  DC  stitches  of  previous  round.  Single  crochet  in  each  space  between  DC’s  of  previous  row.  Join  with  slip  stitch.  

R14  through  R16  –  Ch  1,  SC  in  each  SC  around  (not  in  spaces  between  stitches).  Join  with  slip  stitch.
