SPCS ELMO User Guide
1. User Account
1.1 LoginOpen Chrome browser and go to http://elmo.spcs.edu.hk, a “Sign In” screen will be shown.
Enter your username, password and press [Sign In] button.
## Please note that students are required to activate their user account after first login. ##

1.2 Student Account ActivationELMO will communicate with all users via email, so it is very important to have a registered email account for each user.
By default, each teacher user account will be associated with their SPCS email, so there is no need for a teacher to activate his/her account.
For a student, for the first time login to the system, a page of “Activate User” will be shown.
Students are required to enter their email addresses and press the [Get Verification Token] button. An email will be sent with the “Verification Token” (a long string).

Go to your own mailbox (corresponding to the email address input) and check the email from SPCSELMO. Copy the Verification Token (a unique string to each user) and switch back to the ELMO system.

A “Verify User” screen will then be displayed.
Students could then copy and paste the “Verification Token” from the email and then press the [Verify] button.
If everything is correct, it will be redirected to the Home screen.

1.3 Forgot PasswordIf you have forgotten your password, click the link “Forgot Password” on the login page, a Reset Password screen will be shown.
Enter your username, registered email address and then press the [Submit] button. An email will be sent to your registered email address.
If you have not activated your account yet, please do so with the default password.

1.4 User ProfileELMO allows users to make change on the followings of their user accounts:- - Password (minimum 4 characters)- First Name- Last Name- Profile Picture (any JPEG or PNG file of size not larger than 100 x 100 pixels.
To edit your profile, press the [Edit] icon � on the top-right next to your name. A “User Profile” screen will be shown.
Edit the profile and then press the [Submit] button to save the changes.
You are highly recommended to change your password for security reason. If you have changed your password, the system will automatically log you out in 5 seconds. You will be required to login again.

2. Navigation
2.1 Main MenuOn the top of the screen is the main menu bar.
From the left to right is
Each module requires a specific user permission to access it.
2.2 User ProfileOn the top-right corner is the User Profile. It displays the user name, user profile picture and the [Sign Out] button.
For a student, it will also display her class and student number.

2.3 News FeedFor a student, on the right-hand side is the News Feed which will show the assignments and exercises within one month.
Different color codes are used to specify the status of an assignment or exercise.
Color Status
Green Submitted or Late Submitted assignment
Yellow In Progress
Blue Active assignment
Red Overdue assignment; the due date is passed, still accept late submission
Grey Closed assignment; the closing date is passed, no submission is allowed

3. Question Module
3.1 Search Question
Click the [Question] icon � on the top menu bar. The “Question Filter” screen will be shown.
There are a number of criteria to filter the question database. Fill in the necessary information and then press the [Search] button. To clear the selection, press the [Reset] button.
Subject Select from a list of available subjects in ELMO
Question ID Original Question ID in the old system
Difficulty Level Scale from 0-10, it is automatically calculated based on students’ performance
Q Level Scale from 1-3, mapping to the old system. 1-easy, 2-intermediate, 3-advance
Topic Select from a topic list for each subject
Tag Each question is associated with a number of tags which could be managed by teacher
Keyword Search the keyword exists in the question

3.2 Exercise Generation (for Students)
Click the [Question] icon � on the top menu bar. The “Question Filter” screen will be shown.

Select “Subject” and the corresponding “Topic”. Then, click “New Exercise” to create an exercise with 10 questions. A new exercise is shown on the right hand side under the list of News Feed. Each time, you can create one exercise for each subject.

Click on the exercise and start working on it by pressing the “Start” button.

There is a reminder for you –
If you want to continue the exercise later, please click the “Postpone” button � .
Otherwise, click the “Submit” button � when finish working on an exercise. Please click “Close” to close the reminder.

Please select an answer and click “Next”. You can bookmark a question by clicking the flag next to the question number.

In the question list, bookmarked question is shown in red; finished question is shown in blue; current question is shown in orange and unfinished question is shown in white.

After finishing all 10 questions, a reminder to click the “Submit” button will pop-out. Click “Close” to
close the message and click the “Submit” button � to submit your exercise for grading.

After submission, status of the exercise changed and you can click the exercise under the list of News Feed to check the score.

Click “Review” to check the answer of each question.

The questions and your answers are listed out.

If you want to see the explanation, you can click on question and the explanation is shown.

After checking all the answers, click the “Finished” button at the bottom to end the review process.
