of our country, so it is very crucial to study the same.

This thought is applicable exactly on our education in
B.B.A course as it is having a practical subject wherein we

HISTORY
M/S, ELLORA TIME Pvt. Ltd more known by the brand
AJANTA as well as ORPAT has been started in 1991 by Shri
Odhavjibhai Ravjibhai Patel – more popularly known as Shri
O.R.Patel, who was later accompanied by his sons. Initially, the
company started with timepiece and then diversified to
calculators and telephone. Even the company has entered into the
Home Appliance Segment with a full range of products like
Irons, Water Filter, Water Dispenser, Water Purifier, Water
Sterilizer, Room Heater, Table Fan, Wall Mounting Fan, Mixer
Grinder, Kettle, Emergency Light, Ice Shaver, Air Cooler, etc.

Reasons for selection of location: -
Orpat has selected such a location because here
labour is easily available, transport facilities are also favorable. As
far as marketing factors are concerned, Morbi is a big local market
and in Saurashtra, Rajkot is a big market. For international market,
Kandla Port is nearer to Morbi. As it is situated in an industrial
estate, It gets some government subsidies also. So, We can say that
the location of the company is the best one for distributing its
products cost – wise and convenience – wise.

INTRODUCTION
‘Production’ means creation of utilities and covers all
the activities utilization of resources such as labour, energy,
materials, equipment, machinery, etc, requires satisfying ‘customer
is the king’ and their satisfaction leads to success of the
organization.
Production function is an important function as most of
other activities revolve around this function.
“Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd.” Is a company, which is engaged
in manufacture of clocks, telephones, calculators, timepieces,
educational toys, and home appliances with a full range of products
like irons, water filter, water dispenser, and many other as
mentioned earlier.
Company has achieved a world record of manufacturing
1,36,92,372 clocks during 2002-2003.
At present company is manufacturing around 100
models of wall clocks, 40 models of timepiece, 25 models of
telephones, 30 models of calculators & 3 different varieties of
educational toys with 6 different colures, Even after wide range of
models in each of the products, new models are introduced every
month to be always ahead and unbeatable in the Global Market.

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
It is the process of effectively programming, co-ordinating and
controlling production. i.e. Operations of that part of an enterprise
which is responsible for the actual transformation of materials into
finished products. It deals with man-machine organization to
accomplish both productivity and satisfaction – the desirable end
results.
Here in Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd, most of these decisions are
undertaken by the top management. There is a minimum percentage
of bottom level’s voice.

There are approximately 95-100 workers working in each
department of production.
Here, first they forecast the demand, then they set
manufacturing plan, then its implementation, then compare actual
outputs with planned outputs, then they analyse deviations if any, if
necessary they replant, otherwise plan for next cycle. It can be well-
shown by this chart.

RAW MATERIALS, MACHINES& EQUIPMENTS
RAW MATERIALS: -
Raw materials forms the basic component of the
product. For the production of wall clocks, time pieces, telephones,
wrist watch, calculator & home applications – it requires the
following materials

The company gets its raw material imported from
U.S.A., Germany and Japan.
MACHINES: -
It is the only company which has installed more than
130 imported injection moulding machines with micro-process
based control system.
TECHNOLOGY: -
Company is using most advanced and sophisticated
machineries to give best international standard products.
PRODUCTQUALITY CONTROLThe company is ISO 9001-2001 and CE certified and has a
multi stage quality control from the raw material to the finished
products to provide zero defect products to the ultimate consumer.
It does not give importance only to the quality of its product,
but also to the quality of its advertising, services, delivery, after
sale-service, etc.
Main extra-ordinary feature of its products are the colours,
sweep and physical look. It makes changes in features after
surveying market. Moreover, it has to consider the cost element in
changing the feature as it has to maintain balance between cost and
features.
Even looking to the young generation choice, it manufactures
its clocks in the same manner.
PACKING & LABELLING
PACKING: -
Products of “Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd,” are packed primarily in
the glass packaging. It covers and protects the movement and case
from damage and dust.
Then the secondary package is the plastic bags. Then the
products are packed in corrugated boxes and they are packed in
cartoons, which are sent to different depots and Kandla port for
disposal.
The company spends 4% of gross profit for packing to reduce
the wastage.
LABELLING: -
After packaging, the next important part is to Label the
package. Labelling consists of printed information that decide the
product appearing within the package.

INTRODUCTION
In all business concerns, there is one common element i.e.
human resource; work force of an organization is one of the most
important inputs of components. It is rightly said that people are our
single – most important asset. Because of the unique importance of
human resources and its complexity due to ever changing
psychology behavior and attitudes of men and women at work,
personnel function i.e. manpower management function is becoming
increasing specialized.
Personnel function is particularly interested in personnel
relationships and interaction of employees – human relations.

Labour is an important element of cost and we can very easily
reduce the cost of labour by the best utilization of human resources
and therefore it is necessary to seek the co-operation of the human
forces to get the maximum benefits out of the efforts it puts in.
Labour being an important factor of production needs motivation
and proper guidance from the side of management to get the desired
result. It is the task of the management to deal with the human
forces effectively and to lead then to work properly and in the right
way of procurement right person can be appointed on the job.
So far as Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd, is concerned the company has
employed various categories of managerial and technical personnel
and have assigned their areas in
order to make-work easy. There is healthy relationship between
employees and employers, which can be said with the strong proof
that the company has not faced any labour problems. There are no
labour unions because every problem is solved individually and as
fast as possible.

around 6000 employees (90%of which are female
employees). There are approximately 95-100 employees
working in each department of production.
WORKING HOURS: -
Their work profile is from 7:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
They break (lunch time) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
RECRUITEMENT & SELECTION
Well qualified ad skilled workforce can enable the
company to climb ladders after ladders of success.
Therefore, it is the primary duty of personnel department to
procure right person for the right job from right source at
the right cost.
Here, in Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd, they select the persons
mainly by judging them from the oral interview and from
their educational qualification. In the interview the
candidates are asked about their interest, hobbies, abilities,
job stability, experience requirement about job, etc.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
Training is an organized procedure for increasing the
knowledge and skill of the employees for the better
performance of job. It attempts to improve their
performance on current job and prepare them for an
interested job.
Development is a relative process. It covers not only
those activities which, improve job performance but also
which brings growth of the personality, helps, an individual
grow towards maturity and actualization of their potential
capacity.
“Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd,” provides either in house
training to its workers or department wise. For the
development of their personnel’s, they provide a
challenging atmosphere for work, provides job –
satisfaction. They boost up their enthusiasm by providing
increments.
TRAINING TECHNIQUES
WAGES & TECHNIQUES
Wages are the payments made to the employees as
compensation for the organization. Although wages
includes salaries yet slight difference is there in wages and
salaries. Wages have direct relationship with the
production while salaries on other hand are remuneration
for the quantum to be measured such as remuneration paid
to clerical managerial supervisory staff. The main objective
of such wages and salary administration is to control the
cost to establish affairs and equitable remuneration to all.
Here, in “Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd,” it wage structure is
divided acc to 3 categories unskilled, semiskilled and
executives. Salary scale is fixed but at times it increases or
decreases according to the performance of employees.
Semi skilled workers are paid minimum Rs. 2000
Executives are paid minimum Rs. 10,000
PROMOTION POLICY
In every organization there is sound base promotion
so that industrial relation may be promoted. It is the
responsibility of personnel department of organization to
develop a sound promotion policy to reduce the personnel
problems regarding promotions and ensure that the
employee gets a fain chance of advancement.
So far as Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd, is concerned,
employees are given promotion on seniority basis.
Transfer is not considered here because they do not
have any other branch.
For welfare of employees and his family. It is one
of the saving scheme.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS & SERVICES
As mentioned earlier, labour is most important
part of any organization. Therefore, to retain them
organization provides certain benefits and services to them.
The company has its own township situated in
Morbi for the employees who are non-local residents and
also provides daily bus service. At the time of any festival,
company provides bonus along with gifts.
Provident fund act was passed in 1952 in factories
employing 50 or more. For welfare of employees and his
family. It is one of the saving scheme. According company has
this provision.
EMPLOYEE SAFETY PROVISION :-
In case of any injury company provides first
aid to its employees. It also provides gloves & other
necessary accessories required for employees’ safety.
PERSONNEL RECORDS
Personnel records mean history of the employees.
Each & every organization has to maintain a systematic
record of its employees which includes the information
about personnel regarding their job analysis, evaluation,
description, recruitment, selection, training, transfer,
promotion, test score, periodical appraisal, wages, salary,
pensions, provident fund contribution, employee service
and benefits, safety provisions, labour disputes, etc.

register of employees where every information regarding
workers is provided.

INTRODUCTION
“Finance is that administration area or set of
administrative functions in an organization which relate
with the arrangement of cash and credit, so that the
organization may have the means to carry out its objectives
as satisfactorily as possible.”
Finance is the life-blood of business. We need
finance for establishing, running and also for, the
expansion of organization. It is also needed for the
production of goods and services as well as their
distribution. It is available in the form of working capital or
fixed capital. It can be for short term, medium term or long
term.
Financial management is that specialized
function of general management of finance and its effective
utilization for the achievement common goal of
organization. It covers functions of acquisition funds as
well as its allocation the main concern of a finance
manager is the efficient and wise allocation of funds for

nil.

performed by finance department. As we know finance is one
of the most essential element, all the areas are affected by
financial decisions like wages policy, inventory policy, labour
policy, etc.

Financial planning is done to perform financial activities

planning is so sound that it can achieve its long term and short
term objectives and it is also confident of staying ahead.

Sufficient quantity should be made available, not more or less. In
both the cases, no one else, but the company will be a loser. If we

As mentioned earlier, dependency for working capital on

Capital structure of Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd is perfectly
maintained. There is no shortage of capital as there are enough
capital resources whenever required. So, company has no
problem about capital structure.

INTRODUCTION
“Marketing is the process of planning and
executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution
of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges that satisfy
individual and organizational goals.
Philip Kotler defines a market as an area for
potential exchanges.
The process of marketing starts with identifying
the customer’s needs and then developing a marketing program
suiting the needs of the customer. Hence, customer is at the
centre of any marketing plan. It involves the process of
designing the products in such a way that it is acceptable to the
consumers. Marketing includes four P’S of management i.e.
product, price, promotion and place or physical distribution.
Generally in a small or medium scale unit the
function of marketing is carried out by the owners of business
or the marketing manager.
Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd is a large scale unit. It has already
explored the internet. The company has stared
communicating through internet for building marketing
channels and for communicating with its clients, industry’s

PRODUCT PLANNING
Product planning means to plan the product in such a way
that it will yield more sales and profitability. Planning is
necessarily for re-designing and improving the product and also
making some changes according to market consumer demand.
There are 3 aspects of product developing, modifying and
discontinuing.
In Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd while product planning; some points
are taken into consideration.
1 Last decision of product planning is taken by the
managing directors after notifying all the points of
marketing managers.
2 After analysis of market demand, product plan is
developed.
3 While planning the product, availability of raw
material is considered.
PRICING POLICY
Pricing is very critical decision in marketing
management. The main objective of the firm that is to earn
maximum profit is very much depended upon the correct price
decision. In competitive market economy, price is determined
by free play of demand and supply.
Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd has following pricing decisions:-

Thus it determines the price on the basis of economic rule
i.e. price should be equal to the utility the consumer derives
from that product.
It has adopted cost plus pricing method. This
method includes various costs like material cost, labour cost,
overhead expenses, sales tax, etc, and 8 to 10% margin of
profit. This percentage changes year to year.
The company using a distribution channel has to prepare
price list which it has to circulate to dealers, retailers and
consumers.

help of top management
PAYMENT PERIOD:-
ORPAT has a well goodwill as well as has a popular
name, so they can get half payment in advance and remaining
amount is collected within 25 to 30 days. This is considering
only distributors.
DISCOUNT:-
ORPAT gives 20% discount to dealers and also at Diwali
time, gives surplus gift to its distributors. This policy motivates
the distributors and ultimately increases sales volume.
ALLOWANCE:-
Allowances are another reduction from prices that are
given to dealers to promote the sales.
ORPAT gives fix margin of allowance to its dealers. It
depends upon the relation of dealers with the company.
Sometimes, dealers are given extra allowances for great effort
of increasing sales.
CHANNEL OF DISTRIBUTION
Channel of distribution indicate the route through which
goods or services flow from producer to consumer. The term
channel of distribution is used to denote the middleman
engaged to move the goods from one place of production to the
place of consumption. It means employed by their
manufacturers to get their product to the market and into the
hands of users.
ORPAT’S distribution network currently covers over
140 wholesale depot and 25,000 retail outlets and 4 own
showroom in Morbi, Rajkot, Baroda, Bombay through which
company sells its product easily.

It is that kind of marketing activity that increases sales volume. Today sales promotion is a necessity and not merely a luxury or a fashion.
It consists of those activities that are designed to bring a
company’s goods services to the favorable attention of
consumers. Its main purpose is to stimulate consumers and
dealers effectively. It includes activities such as displays,
shows, exhibition, demonstration and many other routine
selling efforts.
Sales promotion includes :-

Dealers aids means any benefits allowed to dealers on
making the sales of products as determined by the company.
As regarding ORPAT it gives

- Advertisement allowance and display allowance
- Trade discount and other special discount
- Sales scheme
This in turn attracts the dealers to do more business.
CONSUMER AIDS :-
Consumer aids means any benefits allowed to consumers
on purchasing the company’s products. It encourages the
customer to purchase more goods.
As regarding ORPAT, it gives to its customers.- Seasonal discount
- Festival discount
- Marriage discount
ORPAT also gives gifts to its customer on over-purchase
of its products. Gifts are pen sets, purses, carry bags and
bags, etc.
In this way, ORPAT has systematic and efficient sales
promotion policy. Thus, it is rightly said that “After
gaining an entry in the customer home, smart marketers
aim for a space in the customer hearts too”
GLOBAL MARKETING NETWORK
INTERNATIONAL MARKET: -
The company has best and strong distribution
network existing in the nation and is exporting to more
than 45 prominent countries all over the world.
Out of total quantity manufactured every year nearly
15% is exported to the market of Middle East, Africa,
Europe and Asia among its biggest export places is the
Azaan Alarm clock that is programmed to ring the Namaaz
prayer an enormously successful product in the Muslim
countries.
TRANSPORT: -
ORPAT uses 2 ways of transport road transport and
water transport.
For national market it uses road facility because it is
cheap and fast.
Now a day 45 trucks daily distribute its products.For international market it uses water transport,
because it is slow but safe means of transport. It sends its
goods at Kandla port for exporting.

and efficient company has total six warehouse one is
centralized and 5 are individual
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT:-
In ORPAT there is computerized inventory
management because company has mass production of
clocks and other electronic goods. It has to keep records of
every dealer and has to supply goods regularly to every
dealer.
ADVERTISEMENT
In the present day marketing advertisement has
become an inseparable part of business. The purpose of
marketing is to sell a product service as much as possible
and advertising is effective communication be producers
and consumers. There are various types of media of
advertising such as press publicity outdoor advertising
direct mail advertising and most popular and effective way
of advertising that is on television or radio.
“Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd” is giving advertisement in
T.V channels like Sony, Set max, Star plus and also in
newspaper, outdoor posters wall printing, etc. It gives 3
different types of advertisement in T.V channels.
ADVANCE BUDGET:-
It is the advance planning of how much fund will be
allocated in agencies media and in other ways. While
determining the budget, many factors like type of
advertisement type of media, competitors, season, business
cycle, etc, are taken into consideration.
In ORPAT advance budget is prepared and top management makes necessary changes.
PUBLIC RELATION:-
It is believed to be the indirect marketing tool that
means smooth public relation can create a good image in
the market
“Ellora Time Pvt. Ltd.” has special public relation
department. It is known as publicity & public department.
MARKET SHARE ANALYSIS
Analysis of market share is needed to compare the
company’s sales with the industry’s sales.
ORPAT has a national & international market. It also
faces big competition. But due to its quality ORPAT gets
strong position in market.
It occupies 40% market share in wall clock, 20% in
telephone, 70% in time piece, and 70% in calculators.
SERVICE
In ORPAT after sale service is provided during the
guarantee period, which is of 1 year. During 1 year if any
problem arise, e.g. Glass is broken, functions are not
working properly, music is not sounding effectively,
company will replace the piece without any cost. If any
damage is occurred after the guarantee period than
company will take nominal charge.
FUTURE PLANS
It is rightly said that development is an ongoing
process. All the companies whether they are developing or
developed in nature, has some or the other future plans for
expansion and divers ification
ORPAT has already reached heights. As far, it has
already entered into FMCG sector like in shampoo, soap,
toothpaste, etc.
Nearer future ORPAT will be launching wrist-
watches, Digital directory.

- Company is only company, which has installed injection
moulding techniques with micro process based control

WEAKNESSES:-
- At present, company offers less no of models of
telephone and timepieces as compared to Samay.
- Company has to face stiff competition with Samay and
other clock manufacturing companies
- High employee turnover.

There are so many opportunities which company can
capture envisages starting production of following
electronic items in near future.

THREATS:-
- In today’s competitive area there is always a risk
associated. More risk more glory is the call of the day.
- Some threats are there with ORPAT. There is a chance
of duplication of the products stiff competition is also a
major threat of there is even a possibility of entry of
new competitor
UNIT’S CONTRIBUTION
“ETL” provides employment to round about 6000
employers among which 90% are female employees. So
from social view point, it increases women esteems by
giving them earnings.
Here, process of producing electronic items is totally
dry so, there is no question of water pollution.
It has created a charitable trust, it helps needy
students gives medical and clothing help to needy people
helps effected people during natural calamities.

CONCLUSION & SUGGESTION
It is rightly said that “No study is fully complete in itself,
Even then, not taking the shelter in this proverbial saying,
the visit that I have undertaken can be expanded to a more
efficient and highly useful study on the company as a whole.
In the end after having a visit at AJANTA Industry, I
concluded that it was a great experience to visit AJANTA
Industry and know about the functioning of an industry. As
regarding ORPAT there is no voice of middle or bottom
level. It would be better if they are also included low price is
not a winning formula because also people may believe that
it will not be good quality. Overall, it is a far better managed
company.
The training/visit created an “Academic fun” for me and
served as a great learning experience.
