THE ROOTED COLLECTION

S S 1 6

The ROOTED collection by KAOS by Siljestrom, launcing in the spring of 2016, is a deep personal exploration of identity and belonging. Drawing inspiration from elements of Scandinavian culture, nature, history and mythology.

It communicates strength yet comfort, history yet modernity, and intricacy through simplicity.

During my time at MASKA, I was asked to design and make a special

garment to be included in the AW15 collection. Drawing inspiration from

the textures and colours of the season, I designed a structured

jacket/cardigan in luxurious silk/merino wool, with a bold

herringbone slip stitch texture, ripples for structure, and a soft half cardigan

shawl collar.

THE BRIEF: WAFFLE / HERRINGBONE THE BRIEF: DIAGONAL

I designed and created these samples, along with many

others, for the MASKA AW15 collection on a domestic

Brother Electroknit, using hand transfered stitches for

texture swatches, and racking for diagonal swatches.

These two designs were chosen for two final garments

in the collection.

TOUCHED was my final year project at university.

Dealing with the haptic data of emotional responses to music, this

project set out to translate the experienced abstract qualities of music into its physical equivalent. Graphs became foundations for

design, numbers became patterns and survey responses became

colour palettes.
