Recce This scene will be set in the staff room in Southgate secondary school. We have chosen to use this setting as the folders, chairs and computers will inform the teenage target audience -uses and gratification theory, that they will be able to identify -uses and gratification theory with the setting. A high angle shot will be used on Ms Graham to connote that she is the villain in the narrative this will create an enigma for the teenage target audience (Barthes enigma code). We will also be using a low angle shot on Sophie to connote that she is inferior in comparison to Ms Graham who is shouting at her for forgetting her homework. Purpose: We will be using this specific set as it is a conventional set for chick flick films, the fact that it is set in a staff room also connotes Sophie’s incapability to escape from Ms Graham. This will create an enigma (Barthes enigma code) for the teenage target audience as they are left wondering why Ms Graham hates Sophie, and what her next actions will be. This will also inform (uses and gratification theory) the teenage target audience that there is a dis-equilibrium within the narrative, this will be represented through the tilted camera angles which will also add to creating an enigma (Barthes enigma code). List three points that make this location suitable for purpose:

Due to the staff room having blinds we will be able to create a dark and eerie atmosphere. This will represent that this scene includes the dis-equilibrium in the narrative this will create an enigma for the teenage target audience (Barthes enigma code).

As this scene is set in a staff room we are able to see how ‘’evil’’ Ms Graham is in comparison to the other teachers, this further represents her villainous character (Prop 8 stock). This will be connoted through the dark lighting used on her face, where as bright light will be used on the other teacher characters, this is an example of binary oppositions (levi Strauss)

It is a place where the teenage target audience are able to be informed (uses and gratification theory) on why Ms Graham is angry with Sophie List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

As the staff room has large windows we have to make sure the blinds are drawn down or the lighting on the camera is adjusted as this specific scene must appear dark and gloomy to connote an eerie atmosphere and therefore create an enigma for the teenage target audience (Barthes enigma code).

The staffroom also has a limited time, this is because teachers may be in there who are not part of our filming which will mean we have to use a timeslot when the staffroom is free. This means we will have to ensure the filming is carried out quickly. If you use this location what will you have to be aware of at all times?

We must be aware that other pupils may enter the staffroom when we are filming this means we will have to place a sign on the door to prevent this from happening.
