SAN RAFAEL ELKS #1108 ~ BOOSTER JANUARY 2018 San Rafael Elks #1108 January 2018 Page | 1 JANUARY BOOSTER - 2018 To my fellow Brothers & Sisters of Elkdom, Happy New Year! It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone. It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the start of 2017. It’s amazing how quickly time passes. Let's not forget to pause every once in a while and take a moment to realize where we are right now. And to consider where we are taking ourselves. I feel like sometimes we find ourselves stuck on a never-ending track that we have no control over. Don't forget, this is your journey through life and you alone have the power to break away and pave a new road, one that will lead you to all the things you desire. As I sit in reflection of 2017, I am filled with emotions of both happiness and sorrow. Happiness for the great number of accomplishments we were able to achieve. Activities grew along with member participation. New members became keynote players within our organization. Existing members took on new responsibilities and became more involved in the Lodge. The momentum generated by our members is leading us to develop into a more successful and mature Lodge. We have become more in tune with our finances and recognized the importance of continuously evaluating current policies and procedures and implementing new strategies that increase the success of our overall operations. I am proud to say that we are headed in a direction that ensures our Lodge remains alive and strong for future generations. Unfortunately, our Lodge experienced an overwhelming number of deaths that touched all of us on a personal level. From the passing of our Treasurer Lou Phillips, Lodge leader and mentor Jae Eitel, assistant ritual coach Chuck Nobel, along with several other distinguished members, the Lodge has been burdened with a void that will never fully be filled. Our dedication, love and respect for one another has assisted us with our own personal grieving process allowing us to keep our heads high and continue on with our everyday challenges. This connection we share, in my opinion, defines what The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is all about. We all know what the Elks stand for and the causes we support, but once we each experience on our own this amazing emotional strength and support we instill upon each other, then we truly understand the power of this great organization. "To grasp the hand in friendship, to lighten each others burdens, to bring rest to the weary, and to comfort those who mourn." Despite our many losses, I hope we can all look back upon 2017 as a year full of joy, prosperity and personal wealth – and a year providing extraordinary and unforgettable experiences and everlasting memories. Bestowing us wonderful and enlightening stories of inspiration to cherish and forever share with the ones we love. As we commence forward with our initial steps into 2018, a bit wiser from the passed year, let us not forget to be thankful for all that we have been given, to give back to those who are less fortunate, and to preserver and maintain our core values while establishing new distinguished goals for a better future. I wish all of you the very best in 2018. Your Exalted Ruler, Nick Kokalis FROM THE STATION OF FIDELITY

JANUARYBOOSTER-2018

To my fellow Brothers & Sisters of Elkdom,

Happy New Year!

"To grasp the hand in friendship, to lighten each others burdens, to bring rest to the weary, and to comfort those who mourn."

Despite our many losses, I hope we can all look back upon 2017 as a year full of joy, prosperity and personal wealth – and a year providing extraordinary and unforgettable experiences and everlasting memories.

Your Exalted Ruler,

Nick Kokalis

New Year’s Membership Effort – Ring in the New Year & Bring in Elks, the new and the old

Phase 1: New Members - Our lodge thrives on new members, new ideas, fresh energy along with the support and wisdom of existing members. We encourage everyone to invite a friend or family member to become a member this year.

Phase 2: Renew delinquent members. Forty members are delinquent from last April … I know hard to believe. Please call your friends to see if they have renewed and encourage them to not only continue their membership with our fun lodge, but to join you for a little fun. IF they are not going to rejoin, please have them let the office know so we will stop badgering them with fun activities to attend and interesting emails.

It would be great to end the year with a PLUS membership in our lodge.

All Elk Volunteers (friends & family) We appreciate all you do, but we need to keep track of what we do for our lodge and community. This is submitted to Grand Lodge regularly. It’s EASY to log your hours. Anything you do to volunteer (not eating dinner at the lodge or doing laps in the pool) but helping decorate, serve, clean or cook – gardening, admin, etc – it counts!

GO TO Home page of the website, scroll down – click the Log my Volunteer Hours Button and presto! You can enter your name, date, hours worked… Questions? Call Monica (415) 453-1108.

Our Departed Member Chuck Noble

July 6, 1943 - December 10, 2017

Charles (Chuck) Noble passed away

peacefully at his home on December 10, 2017, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Susan. His wife, Susan, his sons Scot, Gregory, and John, his daughter Andrea, and stepson, Jeff Young, survive Chuck.

Chuck had a zest for life and loved to “go places and do things”. His two favorite things he loved most was golfing and fishing. He grew up on a golf course and enjoyed playing most of his life, and had a bass fishing boat that he loved to go out on either alone, with a friend or his son, Greg.

Chuck has been a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks since the age of 21, inducted by his father who served as state president for Michigan. Chuck has served as Exalted Ruler at two lodges in Marin County, and served as State Vice President for the Northwest District. What he enjoyed most about being an Elk was the people and their commitment, the annual Ritual Competition, and all the charities and people he worked with throughout his many years with the organization.
