A hero is a person that has done something that has made a change. They might have changed every day life or they might have changed the whole world. My hero is Elizabeth Blackwell. Timeline- February 3, 1812- Born Birthplace- Bristol, England 1832- immigrated to America 1838- worked as a teacher 1847- accepted at Geneva Medical College 1849- graduated from Geneva Medical College 1849 to 1851- worked in Europe 1851- returned to New York 1853- opened New York Dispensary for Poor Women and Children 1857- New York Infirmary for Women and Children late 1860's- opened a medical school 1869- returned to England 1877- retired and moved to Hastings, England May 31, 1910- died Fun Facts- Blackwell's inspiration was when a close friend was dying the close friend said that she would have a female physician for any thing. The Infirmary that she opened in 1857 had all female staff. Elizabeth is a hero because she worked as a nurse. She helped people who were hurt or dying. She opened a places for the poor. She was amazing. She was a great woman. I picked her because she did something amazing for others. My mom was a nurse once. If it weren't for Elizabeth Blackwell my mom wouldn't have been a nurse.
