Henry Sugut, also known as mister Vienna, won this city marathon three times in his career, in 2010, 2012 in a new CR and in 2013. Sugut took up running in school and eventually had a lot of success on the track recording personal bests in the 5,000m and 10,000m of 13:08.90 and 27:51.34 respectively. He grew up in Nakuru district, Rongai division, in a village called Visoi. For now, he hasn’t decided yet what he will do after finishing his athletics career but farming is one of the things he has in mind. After having an injury in 2014, Henry is ready for a strong race in Mumbai.

F1. Dinknesh Mekash ETH/1985 2:25:09 Nike

Dinknesh, which means “wondrous one” in Amharic, grew up in the town of Bekoji, the renowned “Town of Runners”. As a young athlete she was brought to Addis Ababa by the organization ‘Running Across Borders’ and given coaching, accommodation and support to pursue a running career. She was the first to be part of the program and a classic example of what they are trying to do in East Africa: use sport to help youth achieve success in life. In 2010, Mekash traveled outside of her country for the first time, flying to Scotland to participate in the Loch Ness Marathon. She won in 2:46:39. She was surprised by seeing radiators used for heating the home. The arrival of the mail each day also caught her attention. She was inspired by her niece Elfenesh Alemu (4th in 2004 Olympic marathon, 2003 Tokyo winner) in the beginning of her running career.

After a second place in Mumbai in 2013 and a win in 2014, she hopes to defend her title successfully!
