The DesignerThe DesignerThe Designer Kierra Sheard is a vocal powerhouse, actress, television host, entrepreneur and philanthropist who has been the voice of a generation for nearly 19

years. While Sheard acquired Billboard charted records, Grammy nominations, a B. A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences, and countless awards, she also

acquired an appetite for fashion. Sheard’s diverse background and keen fashion sensibility has been at the forefront of pop gospel culture and

curvy fashionistas for more than a decade.

In 2014 she launched a plus-size hosiery line, Sheers by Sheard in conjunction with Walgreens. In October 2015, Kierra Sheard will launch a Fall/

Winter collection by eleven60, a fresh take on up- scale

fashion for the curvy consumer. Kierra has personally de-

signed classic and refreshing looks for the professional

curvy woman that is chic, bold and eclectic. Eleven60

honors the bold and classy nature of Kierra’s inspiration,

her mother and gospel legend Karen Clark Sheard— Elev-

en60 is the month and year that Clark-Sheard was born.

The “flaws and all” songstress has crisscrossed the globe

and absorbed the fashion trends of New York City, Lon-

don, Paris, Tokyo and Seoul. Eleven60 is poised to take

curvy fashion to an unparalleled level. Kierra’s unique ex-

perience as a curvy fashionista has allowed her to design

red carpet and boardroom ready apparel that will com-

pliment every “body.” Sheard has partnered with Korean

manufacturer, Kim So- Young, to offer the full figured

woman quality garments.

Defining and Designing A SolutionDefining and Designing A SolutionDefining and Designing A Solution As a full–figured woman herself, Sheard is designing from the consumer’s perspective. Full-figured

consumers have often complained that it is difficult to find quality clothing in their size. Eleven60 of-

fers bold and trendy apparel that is both boardroom and red carpet appropriate. Kierra Sheard

knows what the consumer likes because she IS the consumer.

Most women like Kierra are only able to invest in expensive shoes as opposed to clothing because

contemporary trends don’t have the fashion or the right “fit” for the curvy consumer. Kierra’s per-

spective gives her an added advantage as both a consumer and a designer.

She is essentially, designing for herself.

The price points for the apparel matches that of current consumer surveys that highlight the ne-

cessity for high-end designs for the sophisticated shopper looking for a wardrobe that matches

her lifestyle, as opposed to utilitarian designs that lack function, proper support and style.

and sexy look.

The DilemmaThe DilemmaThe Dilemma The DataThe DataThe Data Despite the huge potential for growth, retailers have struggled to

compete and design for the plus-size consumer.

According to NDP Group, Plus-size apparel sales were $17.5 billion from May 2013 - April 2014

Research shows that 65% of American women are considered plus-size while plus-size clothing

only represents 17%—18% of apparel sales.

Industry operators will likely benefit from greater designer collaboration and greater availabil-

ity of premium products. As a result, despite potential competition from alternative retailers,

industry profit is anticipated to rise as more high-end labels begin to offer plus-size styles

Although the plus-size community is diverse, there is a “fit” challenge once you go above a size four-

teen.

There are varying body types in the plus size community and these variations increase as you go up

in sizes.

Plus-size community activists have complained that,

“The plus size consumer isn’t celebrated by retailers or

the media and curvy conscious clothing is not widely

available.”

65% of American women are a size 14 or higher, and of

that 65% nearly 75% agrees with the following statement,

“the retail industry ignores the needs plus- size women.”

Even more alarming is the fact that only 28% of plus-size

women feel as though they are included in the fashion

industry.

Plus-size clothing is often utilitarian with very few options for versatility.

77% of plus size women complain that it’s difficult to find well-fitting garments and

81% state that they will spend more on clothing if they have more options in their size.

Plus-size shoppers aren't as used to having the opportunity to treat themselves to special apparel

such as their smaller-size counterparts, because there haven't been equivalent options.

“As a full-figured woman, I understand that I have to

pay a little more to look good. There aren’t many

designers who give me that option...they only give

me a shoe to fit and a bag to war...that’s great, but,

I want the clothes too! I want trendy and fashiona-

ble! Give me everything! Call me spoiled. I’m a wom-

an! Eleven60 will give the full-figured woman a little

more of what they’re looking for...Like CurvyEnvy

said, “Style is not just for the skinny…”
