  • Essenta DR Workspot ElevaEssenta DR Workspot Eleva Examination TabIMAGE DISPLAY AND EI_s• Goals for having an EI_s:

ClinicalClinical1. Did the detector get sufficient “energy” for a good image quality ?2. Did I overexpose this image ?3 Did I underexpose this image ?3. Did I underexpose this image ?4. If the exposure was wrong, by how far ?5. What is the correct exposure for this anatomy ?

    Technical1. Constancy check.

Assuming the X ray source works correctly:Assuming the X-ray source works correctly:Does the imaging system response properly to a standard exposure

Assuming the imaging system works correctly:

Assuming the imaging system works correctly:Does the X-Ray source generate a proper standard exposure ?

  • Essenta DR Workspot ElevaEssenta DR Workspot Eleva Examination TabIMAGE DISPLAY AND EI_s• The EI_s gives an indication of the image

receptor dose right in front of the detector p gor cassette

    • Under calibrated conditions:

    70kV, 21mmAl phantom

    EI_s = Dose@ROI / µGy * 100

    e g EI s = 250 for a detector dose of 2 5µGye.g. EI_s = 250 for a detector dose of 2.5µGy

And is calculated for the ROI = Region of Interest (“green pixels”)

    10Company confidential Eleva Workspot – Training Material – T.Dorn - April 2007

  • Essenta DR Workspot ElevaEssenta DR Workspot ElevaCALCULATION OF EI_s• Ranger determines “Region of Interest”Ranger determines Region of Interest

as the anatomy, where the highest contrast (film curve) should be.

    • This Region is highlighted in theThis Region is highlighted in the Ranger panel by green pixels(switch on button to see).

    • These green pixels have all (almost)These green pixels have all (almost) the same raw data value.

    • From calibration measurement in thefactory Philips knows the necessary detectorfactory, Philips knows the necessary detectordose to obtain this raw data pixel value.

    • EI_s is the inverse calculation from the “green pixels” into detector dose forthe green pixels into detector dose for these pixels (air kerma /µGy *100). (provided calibration beam qualityand some other factors see next slides)

    EI_s = detector dose / µGy * 100(for calibration beam quality)

and some other factors, see next slides)

  • Essenta DR Workspot ElevaEssenta DR Workspot Eleva Examination TabEI_s TARGET VALUES

    • FOR BOTH DR AND CR:

EI_s = 100 to 300Where the relationship is PROPORTIONAL to the dose

    • This is across all body areas. Chest X-Rays can go to 450 due to the “Auto Mode”

If the number on the image is higher, you can reduce your dose givenIf the number on the image is lower, you have to increase your dose used

and you should check that the quality of the image is good enough for diagnosis.

    • Note: for an 800 speed system, the EI_s target values are 50 to 150

    12Company confidential Eleva Workspot – Training Material – T.Dorn - April 2007

    respectively

  • Essenta DR Workspot ElevaEssenta DR Workspot Eleva Examination TabIMAGE DISPLAY AND EI_s• If the EI_s value is not within the expected range the following

conditions have to be checked:conditions have to be checked:

1/ Is the diagnostic relavant body part collimated correctly?2/ Is there too much direct radiation within the field?2/ Is there too much direct radiation within the field?3/ Is the “green snow” that defines the ranger within the diagnostic relevant body part?4/ Was an AEC used and was the AEC positioned correctly?

    • Note: 2x detector dose means 2x higher EI s valueNote: 2x detector dose means 2x higher EI_s value:The exposure index may vary by up to ±50% even for correct exposure due to patient variations

  • Complete a patient (study examination)Complete a patient (study, examination)With the user completes one or more examinations. Why ?

to confirm the unconfirmed images altogether– to confirm the unconfirmed images altogether– to finally start printing of uncomplete films– to send the "MPPS completed" message to the RIS– to let the affected examinations get a proper status, so in theto let the affected examinations get a proper status, so in the

patient list, the patient (study) entry gets the proper state and appears in the proper worklist(s)

If there is more than one examination for one patient the system asksIf there is more than one examination for one patient, the system asks "Complete all or just the selected examination ?"

    – this question is about "RIS-examinations", that means:– the "selected examination" may be more than just the selected blue single y j g

entry in the examination list, but all user interface examinations that are booked based on the the same SPS from RIS, and are hence reported in the same MPPSthi i t d li itl l b th i t f t t f th– this is not made explicitly clear by the user interface not to confuse the majority of users, where it is irrelevant, but it may confuse somebody ...

You can "discontinue" an examination with proper MPPS message.S ki
