We are Safe We are Respectful We are Focused ELERMORE ENDEAVOUR Term 4 Week 1 19th October 2018 Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to the start of Term 4 2018. On Monday, I sent a letter home to all families to advise of the terribly sad news of the unexpected death of one of our Kindergarten students. I extend my heartfelt condolences to our student’s family and friends and I sincerely thank our school community, students and teachers for the way in which we have all supported each other at this very challenging time. I have been speaking with a number of Year 6 students this week and we came to the realisation that they now only have 45 primary school days left at EVPS. Wow! I know that the Year 6 teachers have begun to plan for end of year activities including Blue and Gold Day (Friday, 14 th December) and the Year 6 Farewell (Tuesday, 18 th December). As a staff we are so very fortunate to know that our Year 6 students will continue to be safe, focussed and respectful role models for the remainder of the year. I am thrilled to advise our community that the canteen refurbishment is complete (well, we still have some fly screens and an oven to come). Mrs O’Neill will be in the canteen on Monday with a limited menu available while the canteen is being restocked. Congratulations to Ruby Buckton, from 5/6B, who has been selected in the Regional Debating Team. This is quite an achievement and I wish Ruby all the very best in her endeavours with this team. The most exciting news around the school at the moment is our 60 th Anniversay Fete that will be held at our school tomorrow! There are so many great stalls, rides and attractions that I have lost count. I hope that you can all come along to support our P&C in raising money for resources and equipment for our students to enjoy and of course, celebrating 60 Years of excellent education at EVPS. I must extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Tracey Thomas and all members of the Fete Sub-Committee for all of the work that they have put in to ensuring that our Fete will be a success. This Fete will be the culmination of well over 12 months of planning and preparation and I cannot begin to express my appreciation to this merry band of volunteers. The Fete opens at 9am with a Welcome to Country. Rides and entertainment begin at 9:30am. I look forward to seeing you all at the Fete tomorrow! Have a great week! Term 4 Week 1 19th October 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the start of Term 4 2018.

On Monday, I sent a letter home to all families to advise of the

terribly sad news of the unexpected death of one of our

Kindergarten students. I extend my heartfelt condolences to

our student’s family and friends and I sincerely thank our

school community, students and teachers for the way in

which we have all supported each other at this very

challenging time.

I have been speaking with a number of Year 6 students this

week and we came to the realisation that they now only

have 45 primary school days left at EVPS. Wow! I know that

the Year 6 teachers have begun to plan for end of year

activities including Blue and Gold Day (Friday, 14th

December) and the Year 6 Farewell (Tuesday, 18th

December). As a staff we are so very fortunate to know that

our Year 6 students will continue to be safe, focussed and

respectful role models for the remainder of the year.

I am thrilled to advise our community that the canteen

refurbishment is complete (well, we still have some fly screens

and an oven to come). Mrs O’Neill will be in the canteen on

Monday with a limited menu available while the canteen is

being restocked.

Congratulations to Ruby Buckton, from 5/6B, who has been

selected in the Regional Debating Team. This is quite an

achievement and I wish Ruby all the very best in her

endeavours with this team.

The most exciting news around the school at the moment is

our 60th Anniversay Fete that will be held at our school

tomorrow! There are so many great stalls, rides and attractions

that I have lost count. I hope that you can all come along to

support our P&C in raising money for resources and

equipment for our students to enjoy and of course,

celebrating 60 Years of excellent education at EVPS. I must

extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Tracey Thomas and all

planning and preparation and I cannot begin to express my

appreciation to this merry band of volunteers. The Fete opens

at 9am with a Welcome to Country. Rides and entertainment

tomorrow!

Creative and Performing Arts Night 2018

We will be holding our annual CAPA night on Tuesday 23rd October 2018. The evening will be a demonstration of dance, music

and drama curricula and an opportunity for the students of Elermore Vale Public School to showcase their talents in dance,

choir, band and drama.

The CAPA night will begin at 6:00pm in the school hall. The pre-ordered food will be served from 5:15pm and again during the

intermission. It would be greatly appreciated if all performers could arrive by 5:30pm.

Students performing in CAPA night will be supervised in 3/4G classroom during the performance. After students perform, they

are welcome to join the audience and watch the rest of the show. Alternatively, parents can collect students from 3/4G

classroom at the end of the show. This is to maintain the safety of all performers.

The following items/groups will be performing on the night:

Band

Choir

Hunter Dance Group

Hip Hop Boys Group

ATSI Dance Group

Tournament of Minds

Music Bus Rock Band

Please be aware that the Tuesday Drama group will not be performing on the night.

Thank you in advance for your support and commitment. We look forward to seeing you on the night to celebrate our schools’

Creative and Performing Arts programs.

Glenrock Excursion Recount

On Thursday 20th of September, Stage 2 students visited Glenrock National Park for a hiking expedition. Experienced discovery

rangers guided us along the Yuelarbah track, walking through chlorophyll rainforest to the exposed Burwood Beach.

The Yuelarbah track was framed with morning mist and the calls of whip birds and black cockatoos. Beautiful and distinctive

natural features included; sand stone rock platforms, waterfalls, massive termite nests and ancient fig trees.

We were told stories about the Awabakal indigenous people and were shown first hand, special aspects of their amazing

connection to this land.

We found evidence of the coal mining in terms of ventilation shafts, the rail lines (that once extended to Nobbies Wharf)

exposed along the headland and coal deposits on the beach. Leichardt’s Lookout – that once housed a multi directional

flying fox - was also highly impressive.

Without doubt, our arrival on Burwood Beach was a highlight. Watching students running down sand mounds, building

sandcastles and dipping their feet in the lagoon made all teachers smile.

It was certainly a most rewarding day out,

A big thank you to all teachers and students involved.

Mr Griffin

Find-a-word

Teaching children the value of money in a cashless world. It’s so common now to buy things in a few clicks online or with the tap of a card or phone at the shops. And with little eyes watching, it’s no wonder that two in three parents believe that digital/cashless transactions make it difficult for their child to understand the value of money .̂ That’s why we’d like to share a few tips that other parents have found useful to show kids the connection between cash and cashless transactions.

Show kids the cost of ‘tap and pay’. When you tap and pay at the supermarket, ask your kids to guess the total of your purchases (from a few multiple choice options). This can help you reinforce that there’s a dollar amount attached to the simple ‘tap’ action.

Show how clicks impact their savings. It’s important for kids to understand that paying for things online has an impact on their savings balance. They can experience this first hand if they pay you back for small online purchases out of their own savings.

Introduce a digital piggy bank. Consider paying pocket money as a mix of cash and an online transfer. That way children can make the link between coins, notes and online money. As they get older, show them how to check how much money is in their account in the same way they count their coins and notes.

Term 4 update.
