MUSIC NOTES
April, 2015 5th Grade Strings Edition
Dear Canyon Ridge, Las Lomas and Stone Oak Strings Parents,
What a whirlwind semester it’s been! Can you believe it is already April? Thank you for being patient
during our transition to a new teacher and new curriculum. We have made a lot of progress this
semester, and hopefully you have heard your child practicing our exciting and challenging music for our
final performance. Speaking of which, here are the details of our Evening With Strings concert:
Evening With Strings
When: Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 5:15-8:15 pm
Where: Blossom Athletic Center (meet at the Piper Bass Student Center)
12002 Jones Maltsberger Rd
San Antonio, TX 78216
What to wear: Nice jeans with no holes, red, purple, green or yellow/gold t-shirt (school colors), nice
tennis shoes with no holes, long hair tied back.
What to bring: Everything Is Awesome/ Happy/ Let it Be sheet music, music stand, instrument and
bow, rockstops (cello/bass only)
Attached to this letter is a map, for your convenience.
Also attached is an April calendar. Please note that Canyon Ridge and Las Lomas will have a revised
schedule for April to allow us to rehearse as a group for our performance. There will be no Strings class
on Wednesday, April 8th. The last day of our Strings Program is April 29th (Las Lomas/Canyon Ridge)
or April 30th (Stone Oak). We will not have an observation week this semester due to scheduling
conflicts.
I am excited that most of our 5th Grade Strings students have also signed up for orchestra class at Bush
Middle School for 6th grade. However, between May and August, there are four months with no strings
instruction at school. Here are some tips for preparing for next year’s program:
Review Essential Elements, Book 1. Practice with the cd.
Take private lessons! References available upon request
Visit your local strings shop. Make sure you have your supplies for next year (rosin, cleaning
cloth, rockstop (cello/bass only), Essential Elements Book 1, folding stand), that your
instrument is the correct size, and that your instrument, bow or strings do not need to be
repaired/ replaced.
Additionally, please expect a letter from me this summer with more information about the Bush Middle
School Orchestra Program.
Thank you again for supporting your child's participation in the NEISD Elementary Strings Program.
Please contact me if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Ms. B.
