MUSIC NOTES April, 2015 5 th Grade Strings Edition Dear Canyon Ridge, Las Lomas and Stone Oak Strings Parents, What a whirlwind semester it’s been! Can you believe it is already April? Thank you for being patient during our transition to a new teacher and new curriculum. We have made a lot of progress this semester, and hopefully you have heard your child practicing our exciting and challenging music for our final performance. Speaking of which, here are the details of our Evening With Strings concert: Evening With Strings When: Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 5:15-8:15 pm Where: Blossom Athletic Center (meet at the Piper Bass Student Center) 12002 Jones Maltsberger Rd San Antonio, TX 78216 What to wear: Nice jeans with no holes, red, purple, green or yellow/gold t-shirt (school colors), nice tennis shoes with no holes, long hair tied back. What to bring: Everything Is Awesome/ Happy/ Let it Be sheet music, music stand, instrument and bow, rockstops (cello/bass only) Attached to this letter is a map, for your convenience. Also attached is an April calendar. Please note that Canyon Ridge and Las Lomas will have a revised schedule for April to allow us to rehearse as a group for our performance. There will be no Strings class on Wednesday, April 8 th . The last day of our Strings Program is April 29 th (Las Lomas/Canyon Ridge) or April 30 th (Stone Oak). We will not have an observation week this semester due to scheduling conflicts. I am excited that most of our 5 th Grade Strings students have also signed up for orchestra class at Bush Middle School for 6 th grade. However, between May and August, there are four months with no strings instruction at school. Here are some tips for preparing for next year’s program: Review Essential Elements, Book 1. Practice with the cd. Take private lessons! References available upon request Visit your local strings shop. Make sure you have your supplies for next year (rosin, cleaning cloth, rockstop (cello/bass only), Essential Elements Book 1, folding stand), that your instrument is the correct size, and that your instrument, bow or strings do not need to be repaired/ replaced.
