Instructional Methodology: Strategy: Question Web Category: Questioning Description: A question web is a graphic organizer in which a question is in the middle and

students may branch out and answer the question. The ultimate goal is building an answer to the question with all the various bits of information. The web will often times help students think more deeply about a subject while they answer the initial question.

Step- by- Step Procedures: 1. Read the picture book aloud to the class. 2. Discuss briefly with the class some of the concepts discussed in the book. 3. Have students complete their question web in small groups 4. Allow each group their findings and answers with the class. 5. Ask students if anyone has a question of their own relating to the book that they would like to

explore. 6. For homework, students will use their question web to produce a paragraph. Formative Assessment: Check that all students have completed their question web, as well as participated in class discussion. Materials Used: Why War is Never a Good Idea by Alice Walker, Question Web worksheet, DocCam

Comment [G1]: 1. Content Pedagogy The application of the reading strategy is aligned to a literature standard. The content itself is aligned to a social studies standard. By aligning the reading to the standard, I am able to make the activity educational and meaningful to the students.

Comment [G2]: 2. Student Development I am allowing students to develop their answer to the question at their own pace with minimal support from the teacher. Group work will encourage social development as well as intellectual development.

Comment [G3]: 3. Diverse Learners By reading the picture book aloud to the class, I appeal to both audio and visual learners.

Comment [G4]: 5. Motivation and Management Students will be motivated by group work and peer input. Students will also be engaged in the learning by presenting ideas to explore as a class.

Comment [G5]: 8. Assessment Brief informal formative assessment is incorporated into the activity so that I can check for student understanding and alter the lesson if necessary to achieve student success.
