The conjunction ‘although’ can only be introduced for some examples. Highlight that it is usually placed at the start of the sentence and differs from ‘but’ in that it makes the main statement seem surprising, ei: ‘Although it was hot, Jane wore her coat and a hat’ 1. I like cats. I don’t like dogs. – I like cats, but I don’t like dogs. 2. I went to university. I didn’t graduate. Although I went to university, I didn’t graduate. 3. I was late for work. I missed the bus. – I was late because I missed the bus. 4. Guillermo went to hospital. Guillermo broke his leg. – Guillermo went to hospital because he broke his leg. 5. I was cold. It was snowing. – I was cold because it was snowing. 6. I like the blue one. I don’t like the red one. 7. We played well. We didn’t win. 8. Ana ate the dinner. Ana didn’t have dessert. 9. Laura stayed in bed. Laura was sick. 10. My mum made cakes. Nobody ate them. (although) 11. I stayed in the shade. I had sunburn. 12. I brought an umbrella. It was raining. 13.
