A special thanks to all teachers who assisted their classes with the displays, and especially Mrs Rebecca Hutchings and Mrs Jody Duff for the coordination of events and the day. Thanks also to Rebecca and Mrs Tracie Johnson who spent 8 hours last Saturday pinning the feet to the material for the display. This was a great community event enjoyed by all. Thank you! Teacher Industrial Action this Wednesday Following the note that came home last week about this action, the school will be operational this Wednesday 27 June, but with minimal supervision as a number of our teachers will be taking strike action around the governments ‘Local Schools, Local Decisions’ program and proposing the ‘Students Charter’ in response.

Notification of Major Contagious Infections/Diseases Could parents please notify the office immediately if their child(ren) have contracted any of the major contagious infections / diseases including Chicken Pox, Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Scarlet Fever, Glandular Fever, Fifth Disease (Slapped Cheek Syndrome), Hand, Foot and Mouth disease, School sores (Impetigo) Meningitis, Meningococcal and the like to minimise the chance of other students /staff / parents being affected.

Term Dates Term 2 will end this Friday 29 June for all. Term 3 will commence for teachers on Monday 16 July with Staff Development day. All students return for Term 3 on Tuesday 17 July.

Term 3 Staff Development Day All of our teaching staff will be at staff training and development on Monday 16 July.

From 8.30am till 2.00pm, we will be with our Local Management Group (LMG) of schools: Warners Bay H S, Valentine PS, Eleebana PS, Warners Bay PS and Biddabah PS. The program includes: Keynote Speaker Ahn Do: ‘Ahn’s story with a theme of resilience’.

Years 2-6 will have training sessions on ‘Focus On Reading’ which is the vehicle for school improvement across the LMG with a focus on implementing the 6 ‘super strategies’ for comprehension. While this is happening, our K-1 staff will be workshopped on identified areas of need across our schools. Some of these workshops will be presented to other groups by teachers from Eleebana PS.

In the afternoon, our staff will all return to Eleebana for the Environmental Education workshop presented by Amanda Gregory (Environmentalist) where we will look at grade actions for sustainability programs into the future.

Congratulations Hockey Players Last week, three of our hockey players were invited to play against teams in the State Hockey Championships being held in Newcastle. Congratulations Cassidy Motum, Miranda Jackson and Margot Diederichs who represented us with great skill and effort. Well done girls.

Bandlink/Winter Winds Our band members worked really hard for a day and half in preparation for their great performance on Thursday afternoon at Bandlink.

A fantastic performance by both Intermediate and Senior Bands at Winter Winds yesterday afternoon.

Well done all.

2013 Student Enrolments - Return of Enrolment Forms Could all families who have received their 2013 enrolment forms please return them to the school office this week or next so we can process them and confirm your child’s enrolment next term. If you have not left your child’s details at the office, please do so as soon as possible. All students who are 4 ½ to 6 years of age are entitled to start school in 2013 in our Kindergarten classes. If you have children who are in this age group, or know of families of children in this age group, or any neighbours who currently attend other schools and would like to attend Eleebana PS in Kinder to Year 6 in 2013, could you please contact the school office on 4946 8927 for an application form for enrolment. Keep bringing those Reading Logs in! Thank you to those parents and students who have entered their reading logs online. We have 8 weeks to the end of this year’s challenge.

I had a fantastic holiday which I have been sharing with the students in order to help them with their own presentations for the National Year of Reading competition entries which will be on display in classrooms for Education Week in Week 3 Term 3. A huge thank you to Ms Dorin Suciu-Gleeson who took up my role during this time with the able assistance of Mrs Sue Selby. A big thank you must also go to Mrs Barbara Tilley who has been volunteering in the library helping out with the endless jobs – it’s like painting the Sydney Harbour Bridge – never ending but the effort is worth it!

P&C News... P&C Meeting The next meeting of the P&C will be held on Monday 30 July at 7pm in the staffroom. Notice of expenditure, discussion and voting will occur at this meeting regarding the purchase of two new air conditioners for the Library. All very welcome to attend.

Fundraising Fundraising priorities for this year are for the 2B and 2P classroom interactive whiteboards, major infants playground development (including sandpit area, cubby house shops/village) and a major joint funding program (P&C $50,000) including designated outdoor learning area, fixed playground equipment, re-turfing, aluminium seating and stage 2 of Kookaburra Hill.

Fitness-A-Thon Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the Fitness-A-Thon will, regrettably, be postponed to next term, Wednesday 1 August. The good news is that we now have the holidays to continue collecting sponsorship! If you have handed in your sponsorship form, or need a new one, they can be collected from the school office. Any amount, small or large, is greatly received by the school.

Spring Fair An initial meeting for the organisation of this year’s Spring Fair will be held next Thursday 28 June at 2pm in the P&C room. This is our major fundraiser for the year as well as an incredible day for the whole family and community. This event takes a lot of planning and we would love to see may new faces and ideas to make this day even greater.

Entertainment Books Payment for Entertainment Books can be made by credit card, cash or cheque and returned to the office in an envelope marked “Entertainment Book” or, if you do not wish to purchase the book, please return it to the office asap as these are now overdue. Thank you for your support

OOSH News... A notice to parents that Eleebana OOSH will be operating before and after school care as usual on Wednesday 27 June for the teachers strike.

Last week of Term 2 already! This week we will be cooking noodle chow mein, making button badges, drawing with water colour pencils, and creating with play-dough.

FUNDRAISING FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

School Watch School Watch is a volunteer program that greatly assists our school. The volunteers take a walk through the school grounds at varying hours checking the windows, doors and looking for trespassers. If a volunteer sights anything they are NOT to approach them, but to ring the school watch number (1300 880 221) and let security and/or the police handle the situation from there. So if you are interested in further assisting our great school community, let the school know.

REVISED PARKING RESTRICTION ON IAN STREET, ELEEBANA

Lake Macquarie City Council have advised the school of an alteration to parking restrictions along the eastern side of Ian Street from house numbers 77 and 79. The “No Stopping” sign has been relocated to include both houses and their respective driveways and continues around the corner onto Glad Gunson Drive. Please refer to diagram below.
