WELCOME ONE AND ALL!Dear Artiste,

e at POD Concerts and Aiken Promotions would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Electric Picnic which is, for most, the last gig of the festival

season.

On September 4th 2004 the Electric Picnic Festival took place for the first time on the rolling lawns of Stradbally Hall Estate in Co Laois, a 600 acre estate in the heart of Ireland. It was a one-day boutique Music Festival with an intimate capacity of 15,000 people. The first ever Electric Picnic sold out and was one of the hottest days of the year, in more ways than one! From here our music-filled ‘day-out’ has quickly grown to a 3 day festival, across seven stages, with camping and lots else besides. It has become a major marker in the calinder of the music fan with eclectic taste buds and attracts an audience every bit as eclectic as the music!

The overwhelmingly positive response from all whom had attended in 2005, including the local authorities, anchored our roots firmly for this year. Over the past

eleven months Electric Picnic has blossomed into an even more quirky event that anyone can enjoy. We are very happy with

our line-up this year. We would like to thank you all very much for agreeing to take part in our festival.

With your input we know it will be a success.

This Electronic Artist Booklet is your guide to the Electric Picnic. It contains all of the information you will need in order to get here, to navigate the site, who to contact in any instance, the running orders and all the quirky things that will be going around you. We invite you to take part in and enjoy the festival. While this booklet should answer the majority of your questions, please feel free to contact us with any query you may have. We are at your disposal!

We are very much looking forward to working with you all.

Kind regards,

POD Concerts & Aiken Promotions

he ancestral home of the Cosby family is a picturesque 600 acre estate with it’s own lake, surrounded by ancient oak and chestnut trees. Situated just

2 hours from Dublin it is nonetheless in the heart of the country in the quaint little town of Stradbally, Co. Laois.

DRIVING?Driving time from Dublin is 2 hours in normal traffic. However festival traffic can be quite a different story. Please be aware that peak festival traffic will take place between 8am and 6pm on Friday the 1st of September, 11am and 6pm on subsequent show days, and between 7am and 3pm on Monday the 4th of September.

From Dublin airport, take the M50 southbound. Off the M50 take the N7. Continue for approx 30 mins after which you should take EXIT 15 off the N7 (this is the Portarlington/ The Heath turn off). From here you will see the YELLOW ROUTE signs. The YELLOW ROUTE is the Artist Route and will bring you directly to the Artist Entrance. In case of any problems arising here are the directions that the YELLOW ROUTE takes. Once you have taken exit 15 off the N7 you will come to a roundabout.

Turn left at this rounabout (ie 1st exit). You will come to a second roundabout . Turn left at this roundabout (ie first exit) and follow that road as far as the village of Vicarstown. As you come to Vicarstown you will see a church on your left hand side. Turn right at this church (following a sign-post for Stradbally). Follow

this road for 6 Km. This brings you to a cross roads. At this cross roads you will be pointing directly at the ARTIST ENTRANCE, which is also the MAIN ENTRANCE

TO THE ESTATEIf you are traveling from Galway allow 3 hours for the journey. Take the N6 to

Portumna, then R489 to Birr, N62 to Roscrea, N7 to Portlaoise and finally the N80 to Stradbally.

Driving time from Cork is 3 hours. Take N8 to Portloaise and then N80 to Stradbally.

If you are traveling from Waterford allow 1 hour 30 mins for your journey. Take N9 then N10 to Kilkenny, then N77 then N78 through Castlecomer toward Athy, then

turn left onto N80 to Stradbally.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL AT ELECTRIC PICNIC

Amnesty International Irish Section will have a campaigning presence at Electric Picnic this year, following on our very successful participation last year

where among many things we had more then 16,000 postcards on 5 different human rights cases signed by festival goers.

We are asking the headlining acts for this year’s Electric Picnic if they would like to participate in our Save the People of Darfur Campaign by singing a John

Lennon song as part of their performance. We are organising a text petition so that audience can take immediate action to Save the People of Darfur.

If you are interested in lending your support to this effort by performing a John Lennon song of your choice at Electric Picnic 2007 please contact Amnesty

Ireland’s Campaigns and Activism Manager, Kieran Clifford on +353 (0) 1.677.6361, ext 217, +353 86.342.4027 or on [email protected].

THE BODY & SOUL VILLAGE A wicked chill stage showcasing many of our favorite musicians and bands, 80 of Ireland’s finest holistic therapists, experiential workshops in just about

anything from massage to felt hat making!, yoga to magic skills. And weaving through this are the lost horizon sauna and hot tub temple, the Bog cottage

with its quirky theatrical acts, the foot spa salon, a permaculture garden with its acoustic music moon lodge, the Irish seed savers veggie plot…AND

wrapped around all of that,….well…. ridiculous amounts of love injected throughout the entire village, love in spirit, and love made 3 dimensional in the

form of sumptuous décor and art installations, night time illuminations, chill out pods, bean bags, ambient music by day and a damn funky vibe by night,

theatrical outbursts, spontaneous jams, tipi fires, tribal vibes, organic food and well….it just keeps on going…!!!

Well it sounds like a lot to take in, and a paragraph just can’t possibly bring take even the wildest of minds to what is truly another world….so how about

this….expect the unexpected, even better, leave your expectations at the door, enter with an open mind…do this and we promise you will leave with an

open heart and a skip in your step.

The Body & Soul village opens each morning at 10am and closes at 4am.

Committing random acts of kindness is our only request (and some litter picking too, so that even nature can have a rest!)

THE CHILL STAGE in the Body & Soul Village: INVITATION TO ALL ARTISTS!

The acoustic stage is nestled in the centre of that natural, lightly wooded, ampithetre on Stradbally Hall Estate that the

Body & Soul area calls home. This stage is loosely programmed with some slots intentionally left clear for you, the

Electric Picnic artists, to perform should the fancy take you. If you do wander down to this area for a look (and I highly

recommend that you do) and if you would like to perform on the stage, just approach those working in the area….

radios being a giveaway as to whom these people are! (fyi buggy’s are another giveaway, but if it were me I’d prefer

chase after a radio any day!). Alternatively let your artist liaison know and he/she/it will get in touch on your behalf.

THE FAIR GREENThe Fair Green is new to the Electric Picnic, and in its infancy, so we have decided to let it grow organically over time without trying too much too soon. The intention over the next few years is to recreate that village-like feeling that can be found in many small towns dotted across Ireland - where there is a sense of community, music, laughter, silliness and a creamy pint!

And what is the centre of any tiny village? The Village Hall of course! Aside from being the pace to hear the latest village gossip, the Electric Picnic Village Hall will host daily barn dances, salsa classes, an 8 piece swing band and ceilies galore!

FARMERS MARKETFresh local farmers produce brought in daily and on sale from 8am-8pm. Produce

will include Truffle Fairy chocolates, fudge, freshly baked breads and muffins, local strawberries, Soul Bakery pizza slices, Real Olive Co, Italian meats and cheeses….

to naMMMM!e but a few!

A GOOD HAIR WEEKEND!The Pamper Palace:With ten hairdressers on hand to give you the perfect wash and blow dry, GHD rental, make up artists, false lash applications, manicurists and masseuses, our team will ensure you look as good as you feel! The pamper palace will be open from arrival on Friday to 8pm, on Saturday from 10am to 8pm and on Sunday from 9am to 7pm.

Located: Main Shower Block in Green Campsite & Boutique Campsite

Pamper Palace Price List: see www.electricpicnic.ie

THE NEXT STAGEThe Next Stage is an exciting and interactive daylight & after-hours space offering a collaboration of fine creative talents fresh from the European festival circuit.

As the morning approaches break from the campsite. For a relaxed start to the day, come and join us for live reggae and our acoustic morning music beats.

By day along with three dynamic tent structures the area will host a live walk-in kaleidoscope show, giant inflated seats, massive junk sculptures, robotic art ….this will be an area filled with visual stimulations.

Each night Keep warm by the fires while enjoying VJ shows by antivj.com, with fire displays and robots to put the fear of Zog into you!! What a quirky, crazy mix!

We look forward to you joining us at The Next Stage!

LOST VAGUENESS

Lost Vagueness present their very unique and flamboyant brand of burlesque theatre and cabaret…with just a smidgeon of madness. Their Chapel of Love brings all of matrimonial mayhem and multi media confessionals. At the stroke of midnight the chapel transforms with red lighting and wicked sumptuous dressings to a world of twisted caberat and extreme performances.

SILENT DISCOTake part or just amuse yourself as you watch the silent mayhem in the campsite after dark! In the Silent Disco everybody who joins in gets given a wireless headphone. The sound is superb. So too is the spectacle: for the voyeurs amongst you … watch the crowd

dance their socks off but hear no music….just the ‘shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle’ of dancing feet….the scene is hillarious to behold!!!

FOSSETT’S - The IRISH for Circus!Fossett’s, Ireland’s National Circus, is delighted to bring their own particular

brand of magic to this year’s Electric Picnic. Since 1875 they have visited communities all over the country and the

name Fossett’s has become synonymous with circus in Ireland. Generations of Irish

families have walked into thie Big Top and been transported to a mystical

world where anything is possible. Long before cinema, television

and indeed electricity arrived, Fossett’s Circus was touring the back roads of Ireland leaving a trail of wonder and awe in our wake.

Performances Fri 7-9pm, Sat & Sun 3pm-5pm & 7-9pm.

May all your days be Circus days.

Note: Fossets are a humans only circus, no animals are harmed in the making of this festival!!!

THE ROOTS N’ REGGAE TENTIt goes against the nature of Electric Picnic to fit any stage into a music category but the DJs in this tent do what it says on the tin, and more!

INFLATABLE CHURCHThe Big Love Inflatable Church will be bursting at the seams with merriment at the Electric Picnic. The Reverend Duncan Pritchard will be overseeing the proceedings, where you can find your perfect partner, invite your wedding guests and get hitched, in the only inflatable church in the world. Alongside him will be his jilted, dishevelled brides and some carefree choir boys getting down.

Come join our weird and wonderful congregation full of fabulous games and shenanigans.

FOOD AND DRINKWe have searched the land for fresh organic foods and juices, quality noodle snacks, smoothies, home made ice-cream, hot nuts, sushi and much, much more.

The food stalls at Electric Picnic are very carefully chosen to ensure a wide variety of healthy and tasty meals for hungry festival goers over the weekend. We try to encourage organic and Fair Trade produce where possible. To give you a small flavour of the food this year...

BBQOne of the big culinary hits of the Electric Picnic has been the German Fireworx BBQ. They claim the secret is in fuelling the flames only by extra dry beech wood. So enjoy sizzling strip loin steaks, lamb pepper and onion brochettes, German and Irish spiced sausages, Irish beef quarter pounders, chicken and vegetable skewers, washed down with a Steve’s Organic Wine, from a nearby stall.

PICNIC AREAA dedicated Picnic Area with picnic benches and tables shaded by some of the 400 year old oak trees on the estate ensures a pleasant atmosphere for hungry festival goers. Take a moment to relax, eat and chill out. Bring some picnic blankets to dine al fresco in true Electric Picnic style!

DRINKSA wide variety of soft drinks will be available at the concession stands and the free drinking water point in the main arena will be well sign-posted. There will also be various bars serving alcohol and a wine bar where you can sample and purchase fine wines.

WHEN YOU ARRIVEWe are working hard to make your access on to the site a quick and pain free process.

Please follow the directions and yellow route as advised in the ‘Getting here’ section. Once you arrive at the artist gate Hazel will greet you. Hazel will ask for the name of the act AND THE TOUR MANAGERS NAME. This will be the on-the-day contact person detailed on the itineraries that you have already received. From here hazel will point you in the direction you need to go. She will radio the Artist Checkin (which is en route to the dressing rooms). One of the army of staff in this checkin will hand your passes to you and direct you to artist car park/ bus parking/ artist area…whereever you need to go. If you would like to make it even smoother, give Hazel a call 15 mins before you expect to arrive – 00353(0)878260428.

WHEN WILL YOU ARRIVE?To allow adequate time for set up, please arrive on site at least FOUR HOURS before you are due to go onstage. Bear in mind that traffic surrounding the festival site will be congested, so allow for this in your transportation schedule.

PERFORMANCE TIMESThe performance and change-over times are extremely strict. Any

artist failing to start promptly due to late arrival or being ill prepared will have the delay taken off

their performance time. Please note that there is a per-minute fine imposed

by the local council should we overrun our curfew. Any artist contributing to an overrun will incur the fine.

THE ARTIST AREAOur aim is to provide a quality experience for all who come to the Electric Picnic. Most of the dressing rooms are located adjacent to the Artist Area. The Artist Area will be a comfy zone with plush cushions, cosy couches and a cocktail bar. It will hold many little touches to keep you amused such as a pool table, table football and an old style pin ball machine. All of these will be housed in the ‘Opium Den’, an oriental tent dressed in silks and finaries.

If you are weary from life on the road, speak to your artist liaison about booking in for a massage at the Body & Soul area. Arrive and relax!

RIDERA standard festival rider suitable to the size of your touring party will be provided in your dressing room. As the Electric Picnic Festival site is not in close proximity to a town we may not be able to accommodate on-the-day requests. For this reason please make any special requests well in advance.

DRESSING ROOMDue to the large number of acts performing at the Electric Picnic this year we are not in a position to provide a dressing room for each artist for the duration of stay. We will make every effort to accommodate the artistes for as long as possible prior to and after their performance. Please note that when dressing rooms need to be vacated we expect cooperation.

WHAT THE WEATHER MAN IS GIVING!

As they say in Ireland, ‘if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes!’.

We of course keep a watchful eye on metcheck (and regularly cross the palms of gipsys with silver!). Our findings?.... well, we don’t want to jinx ourselves but lets just say bring your sunglasses,

your sombrero and your factor 40! (I know, I know, reading between the lines is so tricky sometimes!)

Participants of the Electric Picnic please note:
