Production Areas

In The Beginning…The food and beverage “supply chain” begins with production. Whether it is fruits and vegetables in their final form, grains that will be used in creating a plethora of foodstuffs, or livestock that are destined to make an appearance on the next installment of Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction; the farm is where it all begins.

Washdown & Corrosive EnvironmentsIt’s very common for food and beverage processing plants to have work areas exposed to water, oils, lubricants, and other liquids in the normal course of operation. Plus, washdown areas are exposed to high pressure water streams and condensation. This is dangerous for standard electrical devices, and may compromise the entire electrical system. Leviton’s Wetguard® wiring devices are NEMA and IEC watertight rated (NEMA 4X, IP 66 and IP67) to prevent water ingress from high-pressure washdown, and electrical components are electroless nickel plated and stainless steel to resist corrosion from condensation.

Our Powerswitch line of manual motor starters, mechanical interlocks and safety disconnect switches are also available in non-metallic, watertight (NEMA 4X, IP67) enclosures, making them ideal for these environments.

10

Packaging Areas

Reliable Power SwitchingThe packaging operations in food and beverage processing plants typically contain many automated processes. It is essential that you have reliable power switching control over the various conveyor lines, sorting equipment and the like. Our Powerswitch manual motor controllers are designed to do just that. They are available in a variety of enclosures to suit just about any environment.

Smart AutomationThis is also an area where technology has had a significant impact on processes. Advanced electronics used in automated inspection and sorting equipment tend to be more sensitive to power quality. Leviton provides a broad spectrum of surge protective devices, including branch panel protection and modules that are directly wired in to equipment. The line also includes low voltage surge protective devices for both power and communication (data) lines.

Our DuraPort® Industrial Connectivity Solution safeguards your network. IP67-rated devices resist moisture, dust, corrosion, acids, detergents, oils, and vibration, and are available in a variety of configurations and performance ratings.

Cable ManagementTo maintain the integrity of electrical connections and keep the workplace safe, it is important to safeguard power and data cables, power pendants and plugged in devices. Leviton offers a comprehensive selection of wire mesh safety grips for pulling cables, strain relief and cable support.

12

Distribution Areas

Employee SafetyWarehouse and distribution areas combine machines, people and large amounts of product. This combination can, at times, create a hazardous work environment. Electrical safety is paramount to keep product moving while at the same time keeping employees safe. As with other areas of the facility, OSHA guidelines recommend observing proper lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment. All of our Powerswitch Safety Disconnects provide a means for meeting these requirements, and offer other safety features such as mechanical interlocks to prevent accidental disconnection while under load.

13

Industrial Switches SECTOR® Intelligent Distributed Controls

Mechanical InterlocksHigh-Bay Occupancy Sensors

Includes Warehousing, Packing and Shipping Areas

Energy ManagementNearly 40 percent of the electricity used in a typical warehouse is consumed by lighting equipment, according to a survey by the U.S. Government’s Energy Information Administration. This means companies can save a considerable amount of money by incorporating energy-saving lighting controls in their facilities.

One simple way of controlling energy costs in this environment is by using occupancy sensors. Leviton’s high-bay occupancy sensors are perfect for these types of environments. These sensors mount directly to a high bay fixture to provide individual and automatic on/off switching of each fixture. It’s the automatic-off feature that provides considerable energy savings and enables you to meet codes including ASHRAE 90.1 and California Title 24.

14

Food Service/Retail Areas

Electrical SafetyLunchroom areas also need to be electrically safe for employees, especially in and around any sinks, microwave ovens, vending machines and other appliances. Providing ground fault protection is not only a good idea, but is required by NEC and OSHA guidelines. Leviton offers a wide array of GFCI receptacles for this purpose. We also offer GFCI plugs and cord sets for equipment, such as vending machines, that may need to be connected to existing receptacles that do not provide the required GFCI protection.

Energy ManagementLighting management is a key component from both an energy savings standpoint as well as adding to the aesthetics of the space. This is especially true in any retail or customer waiting areas. Utilizing a combination of occupancy sensors, architectural lighting controls and dimmers, you will have unprecedented control over your lighting needs.

Network SolutionsLet’s face it; every area of your facility needs to be “connected” in some way, shape, or form. Lunchrooms and retail areas may require data connectivity for entertainment purposes (Internet access, television, etc.) or for business purposes (POS equipment, security systems, etc.).

Data Connectivity can be accomplished using traditional copper solutions such as our eXtreme® Cat 6A or Cat 6+ systems. Leviton also offers a complete line of audio/video connectors and cables to support multimedia components such as high definition televisions, projection and audio systems.

16

Facility Support Areas

Electrical SafetyMechanical/Electrical rooms are at the heart of any building. These rooms are where all of the essential power systems that serve as the lifeblood for the building converge. These rooms house much of the HVAC Systems, pumps, motors and other machinery vital to the building’s operation. Leviton offers a wide array of industrial grade motor controllers, mechanical interlock switches, safety disconnect switches, industrial grade plugs, connectors, and receptacles to fit these needs.

Sustainability & Energy ManagementEnergy costs are rising faster than ever before, making the reduction of energy consumption by businesses an increasingly more powerful competitive advantage. Leviton now offers solutions to meet all measurement & verification (M&V) based opportunities such as smart metering and LEED requirements. This positions Leviton as a single source solution by providing an integrated approach for tracking, monitoring, and verifying lighting consumption and implementing cost and carbon footprint reduction.
