2. In the Beginning
Between 1832-1839 a Scottish inventor named Robert Anderson invented the first electric carriage.
Due to technological restrictions batteries were unable to be re-charged and top speeds were very low (around 4mph)
3. Progression continues
In 1859 a French physicist named Gaston Plant invents a re-chargeable lead-acid battery.In 1881 Camille Faure improves on his design to create the basic lead-acid battery used in automobiles.
As battery technology advanced electric automobiles became more and more popular.
4. Speed play
Thanks to the progression of battery technology higher speeds are able to be obtained.
In 1889 JamaisContente achieved a speed of 65.79mph in his rocket shaped electric car.
5. Electric Boom
From 1890 to 1910 electric car manufacturers were abundant and considered more reliable than gas powered vehicles.
By 1915 the price of electric cars is higher than gas so public interest shifts.

Several factors contributed to the decrease in popularity of electric vehicles.
The increasing cost of electric vehicles plus the abundance of cheap fossil fuels.In 1912, an electric roadster sold for $1,750, while a gasoline car sold for $650.
Also the invention of the electric starter made it easier to use a gas car

Due to the rising popularity of the gas motor, electric cars were demanded less.
Some manufacturers still produced electric cars but with less priority.

Rising gas prices and increased awareness for environmental footprints lead to a renewed interest in electric vehicles.
Also several amendments were put in place to decrease pollutants thus creating interest in electric vehicles.

With the rising cost of maintaining vehicles and the environmental laws, more and more manufacturers begin to focus on electric vehicles.
Even though electric vehicles are more expensive initially consumers begin to consider the long term costs and demand grows as well

Many car manufacturers begin producing electric cars.
Battery technology has continued to advance offering a higher top speed and greater range.
Although still not as popular as gas, electric cars have a strong following with environmentalists.

Many different electric cars are concieved although they are still more expensive than gas the interest continues to grow.
Electric cars are beginning to achieve ranges of 150 to 200 miles and charge times are being greatly reduced.

With so many electric car manufacturers out there, which one suits you is a personal decision.However here are several manufacturers that we found impressive and possibly cool.
Remember electric motors produce 100% torque at 0 rpms so many electric cars have a factory speed block.

This cool looking 3-wheeler can do 0-60 in 7.8 seconds which isnt setting records but not too shabby either.
It has a top speed of around 75 mph and a range of around 100 miles (range varies depending on average speed)
15. Tesla Roadster
This model is impressive in several aspects.
In can do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph with a range of over 244 miles.
16. Ultimate Aero EV by Shelby Super Cars
The fastest electric car to date with a top speed over 200 mph.Accelerates from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.
With a range of 150 to 200 miles and a complete charge time of 10 minutes.

So in closing we showed how electric cars influenced the automotive industry and that they are not a new idea.
We have also showed that electric cars are making a comeback and are once again increasing in popularity.
There are a lot of electric car manufacturers today and more to come in the future.
