National Conventions-candidates are nominated by their party at the party’s national convention. They are voted for by state delegates and by unpledged delegates.
It is usually known who the candidate will be before the convention.
Republican National Convention 1992-Republicans used the convention to rally social conservatives behind their candidate. Pat Buchanan delivered a speech about America’s “culture war,” promoting family values.
VP Candidate- Dan Quayle: He was selected for his conservative values, his Midwestern origins, lack of prominence, and youth. Whether or not he was experienced enough was a major question.
Platform: Family Values, Education, Health Care, Good Homes, Safe Streets, Economy, Jobs, Budget, National Defense
