Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Election March 21, 2017 q This is not an additional tax, it would be a continuation of the current SPLOST. q Collections will not begin until the current SPLOST ends. q Sales tax is paid by everyone that shops in Lamar County, including visitors. q Proceeds will be split between the county and the cities. q Without this revenue the county and cities will likely have to increase property taxes to meet the needs. Passage of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) will provide the citizens of the county and cities: Revenue from SPLOST will allow the county and cities to: ü Upgrade fire department equipment to improve safety ü Purchase new patrol cars ü Resurface and maintain roads and improve storm drainage ü Purchase heavy equipment for public works ü Repair and renovate civic buildings ü Improve water and sewer infrastructure ü Construct county animal shelter ü Expand and improve parks
