"ne of those resenting organizations' most successful collaborations included dancer#erformance artist $leanor Bauer two years ago! Her %Big &irls Do Big Things% was so smart and engaging ( reacted with great e)citement when ( heard she was returning! "n Thursday night at *hrist *hurch +eighborhood House she oened a short run - which by the time you read this will mercifully be over! $)cet for the good art which comes later! Bauer has a resectable resum, having danced with athfinding choreograhers such as avier .e /oy and /osas#Anne Teresa de 0eersmaeker and is now artist-in-residence at 0aaitheater in Brussels Belgium! But the eonymous 1223 Eleanor - Bauer's hour of off-handed self- indulgent lecturing on the light of committed though e)loited dancers and artists - included only a few minutes of dance near the e)aserating end! An d that consisted mostly of reetitious reverse cantering and minimalist twerking! Although Bauer's dance involvement includes stints as a grant writer editor for 4ovement /esearch and behind-the-scenes worker her ov ertly ironic rant was a ersonal reflection on what she called the three %economies in the arts%5 assion recognition and money! A stunned and unresonsive though olite audience listened as she seemed to realize she was laying an egg! 6hen two men walked out she rotested that she would soon dance! Thirdbird should have waited until she hatched another substantial work to bring to us! 7o here's the good art5 Although 8riday night's show was to be a double bill with Eleanor and 4elissa 0rodman and 0elly Bond's e)ertly danced Colony, 7aturday night is back to a single bill with 9ust Colony. ( saw it in 12:1 and am still imressed! (t's a Bauhausian work owered by ac e ulse attern and two retty young dancers in stried leotards and sneakers!
