Paul Eldridge Chateau Mont., Dewey, Oklahoma Nov 10, 1914 Dear Paul, Your letter received yesterday. Have just finished the Spook Hills Mystery I think it fine. Have you read it. I was down to Great Falls two weeks ago today. Went out to Russells place in the afternoon for a while then out again next morning and staid from 9 until after 1130. When I walked in the studio in the morning Russell was standing in front of a big Buffalo picture working, he had on his coat and hat it was kind of cool in there as the back door was open and there wasnt any fire going, he wears boots stetson and a sash around his waist, (one of these knit sashes like you see in pictures of Mexicans). This big Buffalo picture is an order from some one in Helena. It is sure a peach-a big bunch of buffalo coming up on a bank of a river, a whole lot surrounding the river and more coming as far as you can see a big wolf is trotting along too. The water is dripping off these buffalo and it sure looks natural. There is a big tree in the fore ground that has been washed up and the beaver have nawed it almost in two. Russell sure burns up the Durham, he works a while and then rolls a cigarette and stands and smokes while he studies the picture. He would paint awhile then stop and talk or write, it depends on whether I could understand him or not. He has a picture there called "Jumped" that is fine, it has a bunch of Indians attacking a wagon train, one wagon is turned head down in a deep wash out and the oxen are all mixed up. There are a couple he has just started, one is of some Indians and another is a Chuck wagon scene early in the morning where a fellow is walking up to a bank. Did you see that picture B&B had of Russells called "Caught With the Goods", he said he got the back-ground for that at a place called Writing Stone, on Milk River up near the Canadian line. Russell showed me some signs like the Indians use. He has quit working for Brown & Bigelow and sends stuff to the Osborne Cal., Co., Newark, New Jersey. He said they would have "The Slick Ear"-"At Ropes End"-"Who's Meat"-"A Call of the Law" and he has one other to paint for them this year. I saw the original of "Who's Meat" It is quite a bit like "A Dangerous Cripple" A fellow has just shot a mountain sheep and a big bear has raised up over the rocks. I guess you will think this letter is mostly "he says". Mrs. Russell has been away to Helena but she came in while I was there. I talked to her for a minute she is awfully nice. Will close as supper is ready. Yours Joe

Dear Paul,

Your letter received yesterday.
