28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Ps. 23 God is a shepherd to His people 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Jn. 10:11-15 Jesus is a good & true shepherd: he gave his life for our salvation

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jn. 13:34-35 Love as Christ loves!

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

III. Why Desire This Work? C. Uphold, Propagate, & Defend the Truth

Ps. 119:126-128 It is time to rise up! 126 It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law. 127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. 128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

III. Why Desire This Work? D. Overcome Hesitation

Ex. 4:10-12 Moses learned if we do our best, God does the rest!

Page 38: ELDERS GUIDE & GUARD SOULS

Ex. 4:10-12 Moses learned if we do our best, God does the rest!

10 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

God can use any man

who yields to Him!

III. Why Desire This Work? D. Overcome Hesitation

Num. 13:30-31 Why the difference: “We are well able” VS “We be not able”?

30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

By faith in God,not in ourselves,

we can do any work He gives us!

Phil. 2:5-8 “My wife & children will share my sacrifices.” Yes, is that good or bad?

Page 41: ELDERS GUIDE & GUARD SOULS

Phil. 2:5-8 “My wife & children will share my sacrifices.” Yes, is that good or bad?

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Lead the family in the spirit of

unselfish service & sacrifice!

III. Why Desire This Work? D. Overcome Hesitation

1 Cor. 16:13-14 “I do not like battles & criticism.” This means, “Let others serve & sacrifice for me, but do not expect me to do the same for them.”

13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 14 Let all your things be done with charity.

God calls for soldiers brave, true, willing to serve by love!
