Safety
These user instructions contain specific safety markings where non-observance of an instruction would
cause hazards. The specific safety markings are:
This symbol indicates safety instructions where non-compliance would affect personal
safety and could result in loss of life. This may include specific requirements or instructions relating to the
use of the product in potentially hazardous areas.
This symbol indicates safety instructions where non-compliance will involve some risk to
safe operation and would damage the equipment or property.
This symbol is used in safety instructions where non-compliance in the hazardous area
would cause the risk of an explosion. This symbol is used in safety instructions to remind not to rub non-
metallic surfaces with a dry cloth; ensure the cloth is damp.
This product must not be operated beyond the parameters specified for the application. If
there is any doubt as to the suitability of the product for the application intended, contact the
manufacturer for advice.
RECEIVER TO SERIAL MODBUS
INTERFACE
The ELD-FA-403-Receiver unit is designed to interface with the AODO or Serial
Modbus Interface unit. These units provide the 12V, 500mA power and communication
line. To install the Receiver unit refer to the site survey, mount 2 pieces of unistrut
horizontally to the back of each enclosure, this will allow simple mounting to a pole, pipe
or structure of your choosing. The Receiver enclosure should be mounted outside the
building facing the field equipment or a Repeater and no more than 50 Ft. from the
controller electronics enclosure. This will insure the best communications path.
NOTE: If Receiver is more the 15.24 meters (50 Ft., US) then RS-485 converters
need to be added to both the Receiver and the controlled enclosures.
-
MOUNTING CONSIDERATIONS
1. Unit may be located in a hazardous location (Cl I/II, Div 2 or Zone 2). 2. No more than 15.24 meters (50 ft. US) from the AODO or Serial Modbus
Interface unit.
3. Allow space under enclosure for recommended routing of cables.
Once the enclosures are mounted, power and communication cables must be
installed between the two enclosures. For RS-232 communication use a 22 AWG, 3
conductors, Stranded, PVC jacket, 1581, Belden PN: 8771. For 12VDC power use a 16
AWG, 2 conductor cable. Wire per local wiring code (i.e.: NEC/CEC).
Note: Manufacturer recommends all cables be routed through bottom of enclosure to
prevent ingress of moisture and/or dust and all AC wires are routed separate from signal
wires. Refer to the diagram inside the enclosure for terminations.
See the following install sheets for additional details on the Serial Modbus Interface unit.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING STATIC HAZARD: WIPE ONLY WITH A DAMP CLOTH DUE TO
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE HAZARD.
WARNING: SUBSTITUTION OF COMOPONENTS MAY IMPAIR SUITABILLITY FOR CLASS I, DIVISION 2. DO NOW DISCONNECT BATTERY OR EQUIPMENT UNLESS
AREA IS NON-HAZARDOUS.

ELD-FA-403-Serial Modbus
(BOX 2)
SERIAL INTERFACE
-
DESCRIPTION The ELD-FA-403-Serial Modbus is an AC powered device used for receiving Flowserve
IPS Wireless Transmitters and storing the data in assigned Modbus registers to be polled
by the customer. The Serial Interface Board interfaces with a receiver and a Modbus
RTU Host. The Serial Interface Board incorporates non volatile memory for saving
configuration data. 1- full duplex RS232 port is dedicated to Receiver interface and 1-
half duplex RS485 port is dedicated to AODO expansion board communication. The
Host Modbus interface is jumper selectable between a 3-wire RS232 or 2-wire RS485
electrical standard. A four position DIP switch on each Serial Interface Board sets the
base Slave address. As there are far more data available than some popular Modbus Hosts
will allow by register number convention, the (maximum configurable) 255 nodes are
divided among 16 Logical Slave addresses (Sections). Base Address is calculated as
Section# + 16 * DIP_VALUE (0..15). The Modbus interface is fixed at 9600bps, 8-
bits/char, 1-stop bit, No Parity.
INSTALLATION To install the unit, mount 2 pieces of unistrut horizontally to the back of the enclosure,
this will allow simple mounting to a pole, pipe or structure of your choosing. The
Receiver enclosure should be mounted outside the building facing the field equipment or
a Repeater and no more than 50 Ft. from the controller electronics enclosure. This will
insure the best communications path.
You may also mount the enclosure or panel directly into the existing control cabinet and
then make your terminations as outlined.
Once the enclosures are mounted, power and communication cables must be run between
the two enclosures. For your RS-232 communication use a 22 AWG, 3 conductors,
Stranded, PVC jacket, 1581, Belden PN: 8771. For your 12VDC power use a 16 AWG,
2 conductor cable.
Load the Flowserve IPS Wireless Utility Software on pc/laptop. Connect the cable to the
Serial Modbus Receiver and the other end to the serial port of the pc/laptop.

Up to 255 nodes with up to 3 field data items each. Raw data, timestamp and age data per
node are also available. 256 alarm / coil outputs and 64 x 4 ~ 20 mA outputs data are
written (once per second) to Modbus Slave address 1 (via the AODO expansion port) in
the form of 80 sixteen bit registers (the first 16 registers represent the alarm / coil data,
the last 64 registers contain the desired (integer) micro-ampere output information for
analog outputs 1 ~ 64).

*: Writes are accepted but will be overwritten by FMBIF status within 1 second.
** : Writes are accepted but will be zeroed out by the FMBIF within 1 second as the
Forced Clear requests are processed.
Note: The Alarm / Coil outputs are comprised of a Logical OR of FMBIF Alarm status
and Forced Coil Data. As alarms from any Node can be assigned to any Alarm / Coil
output the Node Alarm map is quite useful for identifying which Nodes have any Alarms
active (Low, High or Age).
