February, 2019
Dear Friends in Christ,
This year we have a very long season following the day of Epiphany. Lent doesn’t start until March 6th when we observe Ash Wednesday. Such a long season allows us time to delve into Jesus’ time with the people, his time revealing to all people his divinity but also his humanity through his love and care, his teachings that embrace ordinary people, his understanding of their lives.
His miracles too were for and of help to these men, women and children, young and old, of the towns and villages of Judea. He showed care for a wedding couple who suffered a lack of wine at their wedding festivities, provided an abundance of fish to doubting fishermen, and taught ordinary people how to pray.
Jesus extends that same care and those same lessons for us here today with his continued presence and his continued concern for even the small ordinary events in our daily lives.
Psalm 37 that will be read on February 24 urges us to commit ourselves to the Lord. “Put your trust in the Lord and do good. Take delight in the Lord, who shall give you your heart’s desire.” says the Psalmist.
Jesus also urged such commitment in his Sermon on the Plain, which says, ‘Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Take time this Epiphany season to meditate on these readings from Luke
and from Psalm 37.
Blessings, Pastor Jeanne

CALL COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Call Committee has held one
preliminary interview with a possible
candidate. This week the Synod Office
will be sending information on two more
possible candidates. Once the Call
Committee reviews the Personal Ministry Statement (resume) of each additional
candidate we will set up a preliminary interview with each. The coordination of
the additional interviews will take a few weeks to take place.
The Call Committee worked diligently to put together a set of very insightful
questions to ask the candidate(s) in order to gain the best understanding about
the person and if they would be the right fit for our congregations. We will use
the same questions for all the interviews.
The Call Committee will work diligently to determine a top choice to recommend
to both church councils. Then the Committee will work with the Councils and the
Synod office on the next steps.
Please pray for the following who have been submitted to our
prayer list: Ed Dorn, Arden Sheets, Robin Meng, Dick Mai,
Wilbur Hall, Nadine Barlow, Marvin Rosten, Lon Dahl, and
Annie Jo Green.Your prayers are sincerely appreciated and may God bless you! Please remember that names are kept on our prayer list for three weeks, and then removed. If you would like for someone to be kept on our ongoing list, please let Terresa know.

Campus Ministry Sunday
February 10, 2019
Our churches will be welcoming student preachers to our
congregations this February 10th! Campus Ministries across
the Rocky Mountain Synod are sending out student
preachers for the 3rd Annual Rocky Mountain Synod Campus
Ministry Sunday. Join us this day to share with these
students in worship and hear the story of campus ministry!
Food Bank of the Rockies
Eleven out of twelve months each year, the Food Bank of the Rockies offers free
food items to members of Morgan County. To receive the food items, you bring
bags, boxes, and carts to Mark Arndt Event center in the Morgan County
Fairgrounds in Brush at 10:00 a.m. To sign in, you
need an ID (driver’s license or ID). You will be able
to go through the line and receive the food items.
If you wish to volunteer to be one of the adults or
young people (middle school or high school) giving out
the food items, you can come at 9:00 a.m. to help
organize the items. Then you can “work the line”
giving out the food items or helping the elderly carry their boxes and bags to
their cars. If you are in high school, this is a great opportunity to earn
community service credits for scholarships, etc. It probably would be best for
you to attend school if the food bank days are on a day that school is in session.
The days are Wednesdays throughout the year.
The dates of the food bank for 2019 are listed below. Please consider
volunteering your time and ability for this wonderful opportunity.
January 23, February 27, March 27, April 24, May 22, June 26, (no July date),
August 28, September 25, October 23, November 27, and December 18.
Hope to see you there!

LCOR Library
news!
Ardyce has found 2 new fiction books about the Amish people. The first is
titled, Anna’s Crossing, by Suzanne Woods Fisher. (FIC Fis). It follows Anna
who is sailing in 1737 with other Amish believers to start a new life in America.
Although she is fearful of sailing, she feels compelled to go with the group
because she is the only one who speaks English. Much of the book is about the
difficult sailing, but part of it is about other ships carrying slaves, having a
water shortage onboard, and a romance with the ship’s carpenter. The story of
the crossing is a great description of the dangers our ancestors faced in
immigration. (c. 2015)
The second book is titled, The Amish Groom, by Mindy Starns Clark and Susan
Meissner. (FIC Cla) This features a young man who has a very complicated and
conflicted background. He tells his story in first person narrative. He was born
to an ex-Amish mother and an Englisch (non- Amish) father. He was raised as a
military kid until his mother passed. His father placed him in the care of his
Amish grandparents. To further complicate his story, he has been dating an
Amish girl, trying to pray for direction in where he belongs. Then he meets a girl
in California who captures his attention. To which world does he belong? Will he
become an “Amish Groom”? c.2014
Thank you, Ardyce for finding these books.

Dear Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer Youth Group,
Thank you for your year-end gift to ELCA World Hunger. Your gift
to ELCA World Hunger helps fight hunger in more than 60 countries
– including the United States – with a special focus on working
efficiently and effectively to reach families and communities most in
need. When people are connected with basic resources, like land to
farm, clean water, seeds, healthcare, livestock, microcredit,
education, access to markets and good jobs, they can build their own
lasting solutions to hunger. Your gift helps people break free from
hunger and poverty. Your generosity makes a life-saving difference.
When almost 1 billion people face hunger in our world today, it’s a
problem that affects us all. Thank you for being part of the solution,
and helping ensure this work can continue in 2019. Thank you for
your generous gift.
In Christ’s service, The Rev. Daniel Rift, Director

your mobile device, just download and open the Tithe.ly app, or give online on our
website at www.lcorelca.org.
With a Tithe.ly account, you can give without re-entering your giving information
every time. Simply hit the QuickGive™ button to give in one click or the standard

a chance to give. Whether you give weekly, monthly, on the 1st and 15th, or on
some other schedule, Tithe.ly makes it simple for you to setup a regular gift that

LCOR Tellers Needed!
Would you be willing to assist the council stewards
counting the offering? We need you! We presently have
five tellers. Rockie Ernst, Evelyn Cleary, Brad
Wickham, Shelly Bristol, and Margie Dorn are the
tellers. Since there are 52 Sundays in the year and
several other services, it would be great to have a few
more volunteers!
As a teller, you would sign up on the clipboard in the middle office for any
Sundays you are available. Each council member counts the offering for a month.
The only requirement as a teller is that you do not count the offering with a
family member who is on council.
Please contact Terresa at the church office (867-8432) or Margie Dorn
(867-5378) to volunteer. Thank you!
Thank you again for your support of the
ministry at Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp. You
are one of the congregations of the Rocky
Mountain Synod who use, own and operate this
camp. Your prayers and financial help are very
much appreciated. As a seasonal Ministry, we
serve over 3,000 youth and adults each year. Only 2/3 of the camp’s budget comes from
program fees. Your financial support is vital to
keeping camp affordable! We hope you will
include Sky Ranch in your missional budget
and continue to support this ministry.
Lutheran Campus Ministry
Your gifts to campus ministry
support opportunities for
worship, Bible study, peer
ministry, service and
community building. This month we are looking
forward to a winter retreat at Rainbow Trail Lutheran
Camp with students and staff from all over the Rocky
Mountain Synod. Campus ministry offers
opportunities that support students on their faith
journey and expand our communities. For more info
about Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry at UNC
contact Pastor Deb Abbott at [email protected]
or visit www.lecmgreeley.org. For Lutheran Campus
Ministry at CSU contact Pastor Paul Judson at
[email protected] or visit www.lcmcsu.org. Thanks!
Thank you for your gift of $500 to Lutheran Disaster Response.
In the wake of fire and flood, wind, drought and disasters of every kind, you have
joined with the whole church to offer prayers, presence, and physical and spiritual
comfort. Through your gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response, you are in many places
here and around the globe all at once—on the front line with families and
communities—bearing witness to the power and grace of the Christ child, born to
bring wholeness and peace to all who suffer.
Thank you for your gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response this holy season.
With the light and hope of Christ, The Rev. Daniel Rift, ELCA World Hunger
