Elaine  LeBrandt  Weyms,  was   the   only   child  of  Elaine  and  Edward  Weyms  of  Washington  DC.  She  was  educated   in  DC  Public   schools   attending   Bell   Elementary,   Randall   Jr.  High   and  Dunbar  High  school.  Following   graduation   from  Dunbar,  Elaine  graduated  from  the  Miner  Teacher’s  College  for  Colored   Women,   (D.C.   Teachers   College).   She   followed   her   love   for   children   to   become   a  kindergarten   teacher   throughout   the   greater   metropolitan   area,   and   to   her   youngest   child,  Raymond’s  dismay,  she  taught  her  children  through  elementary  school.

Elaine  was   exposed   to   the  arts  while   in  college  where   she  began   to   write  and  direct   plays   for  the  churches   she  would   visit.   Elaine  was   a  gifted  public  speaker,  and  was  requested  to   speak  at  many  schools  and  churches.  She  moderated  and  participated  in  fashion  shows  and  lent  her  lovely  voice  to  sing  and  direct  the  church  choirs  and  was  featured  in  many  recitals.

Her  love  for  the  arts  led  her  to  the  love  of  her  life,  Rev.  Savarhett  Morse.  Elaine  met  Savarhett  while  performing  in  a  church  play.  They  married  and  were  blessed  with  three  children;  Sharon,  Savarhett,  Jr.   and   Raymond.   As   pastor   and   first   lady,   they   were   devoted   to   the   church,   and   brought   their  children  up  in  the  African  Methodist  Episcopal  church.

Rev.  Morse  and  Elaine  pastored  several  congregations   in  Norfolk   and  Suffolk  Va.,  Hagerstown,  Md.  and  D.C.  as  well  as  on  the  Eastern  Shore  of  Maryland  and  after  Rev.  Morse’s  retirement,  Elaine  and  her  husband  briefly  moved  to  Jacksonville  Florida.  As  an  active  first  lady,  Elaine  enjoyed  singing  and  playing   piano   and   conducted   several   children’s   choirs.   Elaine   was   a   gracious   hostess   and   often  entertained   the  Presiding   Elders  wives  who   visited   her   churches.   She  was   involved   in   missionary  work   and   became   president   of   the   Missionary   Society.   In   March   of   2005,   she   received   a   Life  Membership   award   from   the   Women’s   Missionary   Society   of   the   A.M.E.   Church.   In   2003,   the  Missionary  Society  of  Faith  A.M.E.  church  was  renamed  The  Elaine  W.  Morse  Missionary  Society  in  her  honor.

Elaine   was   an   avid   traveler   and   traveled   extensively   both   in   and   outside   of   the   United   States.  Amongst  her  many  hobbies,  Elaine  loved  cooking  and  baking.

Elaine   was  stylish,   always   sporting   the  most   fashionable  attire   and  extravagant   hats.   Elaine   had  a  sweet,   sparkling   personality  with  a   great   sense  of  humor  and  a  kindness  that   extended   to   all  who  knew  her.  Because  of  her  wisdom  and  strong  faith,  many  sought  counseling   from  Elaine  when  they  had  challenges  and  she  willingly  gave  truthful  and  sage  advice.

On  Sunday,  March  3,  2013,  Elaine  Morse  slipped  quietly  and  peacefully  into   the  fulfillment  of  God’s  promise.  She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  parents  Louise  and  Edward  Weyms,  her  beloved  husband  Rev.  Savarhett  Morse  and  step  daughter  Jackie  Hendry  and  grandson  Marion  Hendry.Elaine   is   survived   by   her   three   children,   Sharon   Morse   Laws,   Savarhett   Morse,   Jr.   and   Raymond  (Mazie)  Morse,  son-‐in-‐law  Leon  Hendry  and  James  G.  Laws;  grandchildren  Alja  (Regina)  and  Denise  Hendry,  Daniel  and  Erin  Laws,  Lauren  and  Ashley  Morse;  cousins  Maurica,  Harry,  Daron  Ladson  and  a  host  of  cousins,  friends  and  extended  family.
