Welcome to the 50th Anniversary Season of El Camino Youth Symphony, featuring the “Best of ECYS!”

The Senior Symphony concert programs will feature

favorite works from throughout the years, beginning

in October at the Season Opener Concert with Dvorak’s

Symphony “From the New World,” last performed by

ECYS in 2007 on the stage of St. Petersburg’s famed

Glinka Capella. Other beloved works to look forward

to include Bernstein’s Candide Overture, Tchaikovsky’s

Symphony No. 4 (performed in Prague, in 2005, to an

audience of 1000!), Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and

Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1.

Mark your calendars now for MARCH 9, when the

50TH ANNIVERSARY ANNUAL BENEFIT CONCERT

features not one, but three brilliant solo artists who

will awe you with their fierce virtuosity and blazing

passion!

The festivities continue at an after-party gala reception

with our soloists, with delicious food and toasts to

celebrate the occasion! Proceeds benefit the Camilla

Kolchinsky Scholarship Fund. Details inside!

Whether you are savoring the tremendous achievements

of the Senior Symphony, or enchanted by our first-year

musicians in the Chamber Players Orchestra, we

welcome you to enjoy and support a great music

education program that has

reached its first half-century

of spectacular concerts!

Enjoy Three Superb Soloists and the After-Party!

The enormously charismatic and talented, two-time

Grammy-nominated violinist Philippe Quint first

performed with ECYS in 1996, when he was a rising-star

at Juilliard. This year he returns as an internationally

renowned performer who will astound audiences on

Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1!

The stunning and virtuosic pianist Naomi Kudo, and

the principal trumpet of the acclaimed Canadian Brass

Brandon Ridenour, will perform Shostakovich’s Concerto

for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra.

It could be argued that Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4

is the most beloved work ever performed by ECYS.

Be there to witness this epic “Best of ECYS” performance

by Dr. Camilla Kolchinsky and the Senior Symphony!

For five decades, the El Camino Youth Symphony has been an exemplary arts education organization. As the Bay Area’s foremost non-profit instrumental trainingand education program, ECYS has given nearly 10,000 youths at all levels ofmusical training the opportunity to develop both socially and artistically.

At a time when opportunities for music education are being extinguished, while the power of musical education to make a profound difference in thelives of youth has never been more universally understood, ECYS invites you to reach out and to fill a critical gap in public funding of the arts.

We welcome you to join us as advocates of young artists and their place in the grand tradition of musical education and excellence. We depend upongenerous friends to fund our program, as tuition and ticket sales cover only a portion of our expenses.

On behalf of the ECYS Board of Directors, thank you for your interest in music education, and thank you for considering supporting the El Camino Youth Symphony Association. We would be honored for you to join our familyof supporters.
