3.-Short Questions and Short Answers

with Simple Present (preguntas y respuestas cortas en presente

simple)

En ingles es muy común que al responder a una pregunta corta, se utilice una respuesta en particular que esta basada en el uso de los auxiliares. Para nosotros en nuestro idioma un “SI” o un “NO” es suficiente, pero en ingles no puede ser así. Observa el siguiente ejemplo:

¿Tienes un perro? Do you have a dog?

No / Si No, I don’t / Yes, I do

ESPAÑOL INGLES

Otros ejemplos:

Does Pedro live in an apartment ? No, he doesn’t. He lives in a house Pedro vive en un apartamento? No. El vive en una casa Do Tom and Sue have a big house? Yes, they do. Tom y Sue tienen una casa grande? Sí. Do you and your brother share a room? Yes, we do. Tú y tu hermano comparten una habitación? Sí

Como te podràs dar cuenta para hacer preguntas hay usar el auxiliar “do” y “does” , al traducir al español, estos auxiliares no tienen traducción pero hay que ponerlos siempre que preguntamos algo referente a alguna actividad rutinaria o cotidiana. Los auxiliares se usan así: Do I ….? Do you…? Do we….? Do they…..? Does he…..? Does she…….? Does it……? Recuerda que a veces en lugar de pronombres (I, you, he , she , it, we, you, they) aparecen nombres de personas o personas de la familia….en ese caso tenemos que analizar que pronombre le correspondería a esa persona para saber que auxiliar usar. Supongamos que queremos preguntarle a un amigo si su hermana tiene un auto. Como la hermana es un sujeto femenino, le corresponde el pronombre “she”. Y como le corresponde “she”, la pregunta debe empezar con “does”. Ejemplo:

“Does your sister have a car?” Yes, she does. She has a JETTA

4.- There is / there are Para el siguiente tema, lo primero es recordar el significado de singular y plural. Singular: es cuando nos referimos a la UNIDAD, a un solo sustantivo. (Perro Dog) (Manzana Apple) (Polvo Dust) Plural: es cuando nos referimos a dos o mas. Para este tema, es importante mencionar el Verbo TO BE (ser o estar) que en este caso no tiene el significado que ya conoces ( UNIDAD 1 ), sino que ahora tiene el significado de HABER.: There is (hay en singular) There are (hay en plural) y debemos tener en cuenta cuando hablamos en singular y plural para su uso. Observa el siguiente ejemplo:

There is There is an apple on the table. (Singular) Hay una manzana sobre la mesa.

HAY There are There are two apples on the table. (Plural) Hay dos manzanas sobre la mesa. Como se hace uso del verbo To Be, observa que sucede en las oraciones, negativas e interrogativas: SINGULAR
