The word ‘Hotel’ is a French word.

The history of hotels dates back to thousands of years as there is a mention of the word ‘inn’ (which means Hotel) in Bible.

The first hotel in the modern sense was established in 1768 with the

name ‘Royal Clearance Hotel’ in the city of Exeter, England.

The concept of ‘Boutique Hotel’ was started in 1980’s in large

cities like London and New York. They are small, luxurious hotels

with 10-100 rooms.

The word ‘Motel’ was first used in 1952 which means ‘Motor Hotel’. It was used for budget hotels located on the highway.

Intercontinental Hotels’ is the largest chain of hotels with over

4600 hotels and over 674,000 rooms worldwide.‘

The tallest hotel in the world is the 72 storey ‘JW Marriott Marquis’ in Dubai.

Famous Fashion Designer, Coco Chanel spent a long period of 30

years of his life living in Hotel Ritz, Paris.
