You’re joining an energetic community of students and academics. We practise a diverse range of subjects including language and linguistics, literary and cultural studies, social and political history, creative writing, film studies and Chinese: each subject is distinctive, but they are unitedby common intellectual values and a belief in dialogue. We hope yourdegree at Edge Hill University will be a stimulating and rewardingexperience. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you enjoy yourcourse and get the maximum benefit from it.

In Freshers’ Week you will acclimatise to your new surroundings, findout more about how the University works, and meet some of the staffwho will be teaching and supporting you. There will be group activitiesproviding essential course information, and also individual meetings withyour Personal Tutors, who will stay with you throughout your degree. It’s also about getting to know each other and making new friends.

You’ll receive a lot of information in these early weeks; don’t worry if notall of it sticks at first. You can always get further advice, especially fromyour Personal Tutor or Programme Leader: don’t hesitate to contact usat any time by e-mail, by phone, or in person. If in doubt, just ask. It’sespecially important to find the Department Office early on: it’s in roomC.17 on the ‘Clough’ corridor along the side of theMain building, adjacentto the running track. The office is a key source of information andpractical assistance.

Don’t waste a minute of your time at university: make the most of all theopportunities that come your way. Your degree will change your outlookon life and open new doors for you. It should also be quite a lot of fun.We look forward to working with you.
