Tanzania: Air Seychelles adds Dar es Salaam to its regional
destinations
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (PANA) - Air Seychelles has opened a new
route directly linking the west Indian Ocean Island's capital,
Victoria, and Tanzania's commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, to
boost tourism between the two countries, the Tanzania Aviation
Authority (TAA) said here Wednesday.
According to TAA, the inaugural flight of Air Seychelles on the
route landed at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es
Salaam late Tuesday.
The airline's public relations manager, Mr. Alan Renaud, said its
current timetable provides for twice weekly return flights on
Tuesday and Sunday.
He said the new route was the outcome of partnership between the
Seychelles national airline and Etihad Airways of Abu Dhabi which,
in January 2012, acquired a 40 percent stake in Air Seychelles.
The two airlines have made Seychelles not just a leisure
destination in its own right but also a hub of air travellers between
East Africa and the Middle East and the Far East.
Tourism is the island nation’s strongest and growing economic
sector while the airline is officially regarded the main pillar of the
industry.
Welcoming Air Seychelles, Tanzania's Deputy Minister of Transport
Charles Tizeba said it has opened a new page for travellers to and
from neighbouring land-locked countries and that its flights would
contribute to the promotion of tourism in the region.
Assuring the airline of government cooperation, the Minister also
urged the Tanzanian business community to make use of the
opportunity to expand trade between the country and Seychelles.
