Developed by the Ballymun Job Centre in collaborationwith European partners, the tools were originallydesigned to identify competencies in:

work eexperience, o JJunior ccert/leaving ccert ppupils.

With colourful animation and clear audio instructions,the assessments are fun and easy to use, feeling morelike games than “tests”. This has shown to beparticularly suited to those who may have literacy issues,a lack of confidence or for people who feel stressed ifthey perceive that they are being assessed or tested.

EGUIDE Tools: Helping tto oovercome cchallenges

One of the challenges that many guidancecounsellors/practitioners face is establishing whatcourse or career is best for their client. This can be mademore difficult when your client has been long termunemployed, had left education early or has no workexperience. It is known that decreased self-esteem andlack of motivation may well be barriers to your client

finding work or suitable training. EGUIDE assists by

focusing on your client’s positive attributes, aptitudes

and preferences and not on what may sometimes benegative past experiences.

Highlighting in an objective and positive way where theirstrengths lie can be very empowering and oftenpleasantly surprising to the person taking the tests. Itcan focus their mind on what they might like to do nextin terms of training or work. turn what may appear to be negatives into positives andhow to understand the results as delivered by the tool.

practitioner, although it is an easy to use, fun and effectivetool, it is the interpersonal skills of the practitioner that isthe ultimate key to success for your client and thereforefeedback is a crucial part of the training course.
