Storm Sewer Installation
• Installation of new storm sewer infrastructure is required to accommodate
construction of Mount Pleasant Station
• To accommodate the on-going piling operation and minimize the disruption to
traffic, the work will be performed using a micro-tunneling methodology
• One launch shaft is required to send the tunnel boring machine (TBM) and pipes,
and one receiving shaft is required to extract the TBM
• The TBM will operate 24/7 during the tunneling operation – approx. 2 weeks
• Lane closures and pedestrian rerouting will be in effect
• Taunton Road will be closed at Eglinton Ave E for eight (8) weeks while the
launch shaft is in place
Schedule – Storm Sewer Installation
• Launch Shaft (at Taunton Road):
Beginning as early as October 11 for approximately eight (8) weeks
• Receiving Shaft (east of Brownlow Avenue):
Beginning as early as early November 15 for approximately four (4) weeks
• Work Sequence:
– Implement traffic staging for launch shaft
– Construction of the launch shaft and mobilize TBM
– Tunneling/pipe installation - 24 hours for approximately two (2) weeks
– Implement traffic staging for receiving shaft
– Construction of receiving shaft
– Extraction of the TBM
