The common trademark Pollrich DLK Fan Factories pools more than 140 years of production know-how of industrial fans by the manufacturers Pollrich Ventilatoren GmbH and DLK Ventilatoren GmbH. A workforce of more than 220 employees at the two production sites Mnchengladbach and Schntal-Berlichingen manufacture axial and centrifugal fans for nearly any industrial requirement.

As the only manufacturer in the world offering all five product segments of industrial fans, we propose an unmatched range of products for the most different requirements of our customers. As our sales teams are organised in market segments they will better understand the specific project of their customer and supply knowledgeable solutions.

Our R&D department combines expertise within all sectors of fan technology with highly efficient simulation tools such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) for flow visualisation and FEM (Finite-Element-Method) to calculate the structure-mechanical characteristics, as well as test ducts and -chambers according to international standard ISO 5801, equipped with the latest measuring technology in order to determine the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic characteristics.

CAR PARK VENTILATION: THE PLANNING

Natural ventilation in car parks is usually insufficient or even impossible because the building structure is mostly closed. Complex ventilation technology has therefore become industry standard, particularly due to the fact that local requirements have to be taken into account for almost every car park.

Most countries have developed a national standard for car park ventilation or have adopted legislation to cover the minimum requirements. Most countries distinguish two functions for the ventilation systems. A base function of air refreshment is to comply with the max. permissible limits with pollution. In this case, carbon monoxide concentra-tions are usually the basis for the normative regulations. A second function for the ventilation system is usually the extraction of smoke and heat in the case of fire. The requirements for smoke and heat extractors are given in national standards, often supplemented by the fire depart-ment, planning commission and fire safety bodies.

The traditional concept of a ventilation system with fans and ducts has been changed drastically with the intro-duction of jetfan systems. Space and labour consuming ductwork is almost fully replaced by controllable jetfans. These fans offer precise ventilation possibilities, combined with very flexible positioning possibilities, mostly making ductwork obsolete. These flexible application possibilities have had a large influence on regulations and offer large design freedom.

As a major jetfan manufacturer of jetfans, Pollrich DLK Fan Factories aims to supply all compo-nents required to compose a complete car park ventilation system from a single source.

Our qualified fire safety engi-neers can assist in designing a complete system, consisting of: Selection and positioning of the jetfans, warning signs, gas de-tectors, alarm horn, flashlights etc. They can also calculate the required airflows, pressure los-ses and other details of the air supply, general ventilation and smoke extraction points, as well the required CFD-simulations for approval by proper autho-rities.

CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations can

illustrate different ventilation and fire scenarios of interest to the authorities involved in the safety approval of the par-king. CFD simulations are based on numerical calculation methods and algorithms to analyse (complex) problems of liquid and gas flows and make them visible.

It is a very useful tool that has proven itself over time. It enables the designers to visualise fires. Parameters like temperature, pressure, air velocity, smoke dispersi-on, smoke density, sight distance can be studied prior to building the system. These parameters can be decisive, especially when evaluating evacuation plans or fire fighting plans.

CFD- simulations are based on the exact three-dimensio-nal architectural design, including all relevant details such as stair cases, columns, structural beams and other important items. CFD-simulation will prove the effectiveness of all designs and can be used to

determine if the supply or extract points, jetfans and other system components are positioned and dimensi-oned correctly and according to the requirements.

Taking all into account, CFD-calculation enables a foun-ded statement about important values like air velocity and temperatures that are expected to be achieved.CFD-simulations by Pollrich DLK Fan Factories are concluded with

a well-founded and comprehensive report.It shows all the positional information of the planned com-ponents for installation, in order to guarantee customers the best possible performance of the system.

Range of application:The medium pressure axial fans of product line ToromaxPro by Pollrich DLK (AANM) are suitable for ventilation and for conveying clean and slightly dusty air for various applications.

Impeller:Hub and impeller blades made of a highly corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy (saltwater-proof, DN 315-1120). DN 1250-1600 impeller made of steel, powder-coated (optionally stainless steel). Profiled blades adjustable during standstill.

Drive:IEC norm motor, protection class IP55, insulation class F. Ambient temperature for motor max. 40 C. Motor perfor-mance selected for cold start-up at 20 C. All motors are according to ener-gy efficiency class IE2.

Performance adjustment:Our motors are equipped with PTC resi-stors for operation with frequency con-verters with sinusoidal filters. As option, the motor PTC resistor can be extended to the fan terminal box. The max. speed of the impeller and the max. power output of the motor must be taken into consideration. As standard for operation at 50 Hz (60 Hz on request).

TAYLOR MADE CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR CONTROL AND MONITORING

Control system, Installation, commissioning and maintenance

A state of the art control system is es-sential for car park ventilation systems. Tayloring the system controls ensures a correct functioning as well as optimal performance. The individual tuning of the system ensures that requirements regarding performance, energy- and cost efficiency are precisely met.

The control functions are stored in a controller that constantly interprets the state and signals from all system com-ponents.

The controller is preset to determine what functions are required and controls the ventilation system accordingly.Preseting the controller enables optimum safety during situations where effective ventilation is required.

The system is tuned to ensure low pollution levels in fresh air ventilation mode, whilst obtaining the most energy effective running mode of the fans. This usually includes switching and speed control of individual fans.

If smoke extraction functionality is re-quired, a smoke detection system must be incorporated. The system is switched to an optimal state of ventilation when the smoke detection system is activated. Several different states are possible, depending on the size and layout of the car park and ventilation system.The system is set to assist safe evacua-tion of persons during fire and to assist fire fighting by directing the flow of smoke to predetermined routes.
