Dear Pupils,
This Classbook and the accompanying Skills Book have been designed tointroduce you to the basics of the English Language. Throughout thecourse, you will begin to learn English vocabulary, recognize letters andnumbers and even begin to read a few simple words in English. You willlearn how to speak and listen to English. You will also have theopportunity to self-assess your learning experience unit by unit.
In addition to the Classbook, and the Skills Book, your teacher will beusing colourful resource packs of posters, flashcards and games to helpenhance your comprehension of the English language. Big Books andlearning DVDs will also be used regularly by your teacher in class to helpyou to progress in learning the language.
The tasks are carefully designed to develop your skills in an interestingand motivating way. Most of the tasks are usually completed in classunder the guidance and support of your English teacher. However, theremay be times when you will be asked to do some work at home.
The colourful glossary at the back of this book can be used at home withyour parents to help you practice new words. We are sure that thelearning experience will be enjoyable and memorable for you and yourclassmates.

Once upon a time there werethree bears: daddy bear,mummy bear and baby bear.The bears lived in a house inthe middle of woods.
One day daddy bear made porridge for breakfast.
So the three bears went fora walk in the woods.
Daddy bear put the hot por-ridge into the three bowls: alittle bowl for baby bear, asmall bowl for mummy bearand a big bowl for daddybear. The porridge was very hot.
The porridge was very hot.‘Ouch!’ said baby bear, ‘Myporridge is too hot.’
‘Ouch!’ said mummy bear,‘My porridge is too hot.’

A little girl was in the woods. Hername was Goldilocks. She wasvery tired and hungry.
Then Goldilocks saw the bears’house. She knocked on the door.She looked through the window.She went in the house.
Then, Goldilocks saw threechairs: Daddy Bear’s chair,Mummy Bear’s chair andBaby Bear’s chair.
She sat on daddy bear’schair. ‘Ouch! Too hard.’
Then she sat on mummybear’s chair. ‘Oooh! Too soft.’
Goldilocks saw the three bowls ofporridge: Daddy bear’s bowl,mummy bear’s bowl, and babybear’s bowl.
She tasted daddy bear’s porridge.‘Ouch! Too hot.’ Then she tasted mummy bear’sporridge. ‘Ugh! Too cold.’
Then she tasted baby bear’s porridge. ‘Yum! Just right.’ Sheate it all up.

Goldilocks was very tired.
She saw three beds: Daddy bear’s bed,mummy bear’s bed and baby bear’s bed.
Goldilocks lay in daddy bear’s bed.‘Ouch! Too hard.’
Then she lay in Mummy Bear’s bed.‘Oooh! Too soft.’
Then she lay in baby bear’s bed.‘Aaah! Just right.’
And Goldilocks went to sleep inbaby bear’s bed.
Baby bear looked at his porridge.
‘Someone’s been eating my porridge,and it’s all gone!’
Mummy bear looked at her porridge.
‘Someone’s been eating my porridge,’she said.
Daddy bear looked at his porridge.
‘Someone’s been eating my porridge,’ he said.
Then the three bears came home.

Mummy Bear said ‘Someone’s beensitting on my chair.’
And Baby Bear said. ‘Someone’s beensitting on my chair, and its broken!’
Baby bear looked at his bed.‘Someone’s been sleeping in mybed. And here she is!’
Then the three bears went to their bedroom.
Daddy bear looked at his bed. ‘Someone’s been sleeping in mybed,’ he said.
Mummy Bear looked at her bed.‘Someone’s been sleeping in mybed,’ she said.
Goldilocks woke up and openedher eyes. She saw the three bears.
They growled. Grrr! Goldilocksjumped out of bed and ran away.
She never went back to the bears’house again.
Grrr!

The Enormous Turnip read along
Once upon a time anold man planted aturnip seed and said,‘Grow little turnip.Grow strong.’
The turnip grew biggerand bigger, until one dayit was enormous.
The old man tried topull the turnip out ofthe ground. He pulled,and he pulled, but hecouldn’t pull it up.
So he called an old woman tohelp him.
The old woman pulled the oldman. The old man pulled theturnip. And they pulled and theypulled, but they couldn’t pull it up.
So the oldwoman calledher daughter.
The daughter pulled the old woman. The old womanpulled the old man. The old man pulled the turnip. Andthey pulled and they pulled, but they couldn’t pull it up.66

The next day they all had lovely turnip soup.
