Shree Mithila Ayurveda College and Research Centre offers the most
comprehensive curriculum in the field of Ayurvedic Medicine and Healthcare in
Nepal. It was established in 2063 B.S. (2006 A.D.) under the affiliation of Nepal
Sanskrit University and under the approval of the Nepal Ayurvedic Medical
Council. The College offers a Five and half years program for Ayurvedic medical
Practitioners, which includes one year of practical/clinical internship.
The BAMS program enables the learners to be competent, capable to providing
Ayurveda health services in Nepal, identifying and managing health institutions.
After completion of this course, doctors will have integrated knowledge of
Ayurveda, Allopathy, Yoga, Naturopathy etc. BAMS is equivalent to the Graduate
in the related field.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

seeks to transform bright minds into dynamic professionals, in an

best in every student. Under the supervision of the supreme regulatory
body of medical education and professionals, the Nepal Ayurveda Medical
Council, the highest priority of the college has been to impart quality
education and produce competent & highly qualified Medical graduates as
per the norms, guidelines specified by the NAMC and standards set by
Ministry of Education.
The aim of the BAMS course is to impart thorough and comprehensive
training to the candidate in the various aspects of Ayurveda so that at the
end of the course he/she shall be able to perform the following:
Recognize the importance of Ayurvedic Principles in the context of
the health needs of the community.
To be able to diagnose and manage acute and chronic diseases on
the basis of clinical assessment and appropriately selected and
conducted investigations.
To be able to carry out efficient Ayurvedic management of all types
of ailments after quickly assessing the patient and synthesizing
available clinical and Investigational information to formulate
totality of symptoms .
To be able to identify social, economic, environmental, biological
and emotional determinants of health in a given case, and take
them into account while planning therapeutic, rehabilitative,
preventive measures/strategies.
To keep abreast of the current knowledge and recent advances in
the field by self learning and /or participating in continuing Medical
Education Programs.
To be able to critically analyze relevant published research
literature and use them appropriately to influence practice of
Ayurveda.
To provide specialty medical care through the attached hospital to
the people through Ayurveda.
To provide trained manpower in Ayurveda in the region and
capacity building and skill development of Ayurveda practitioners.
To impart reorientation training and continuing medical education
to Ayurveda physicians and teachers in the region.
To establish and manage the institute as a Centre of Excellence in
pharmacological research related to the field of Ayurveda.
To undertake research on the treatment of diseases prevalent in
Terai Region using the Ayurveda system of medicine.

DEPARTMENTS:
1. DEPARTMENT OF SANSKRIT, SAMHITA & SIDDHANTA
This Department deals with the study of Philosophical fundamental
approach of Ayurveda. The name of the department itself suggests that it
elaborates the basic concepts of diagnosis and treatment. The basic
concepts if applied properly and in its authentic way, it leads to the
absolute knowledge of disease; which is applied to the newer diseases,
too. Darshana Shastra and the scientific base laid by them enable to
amplify and implement the concepts. Sanskrit is the basic subject which
has been taught to the students through this department. The subject has
been included in the curriculum as it is the language of the ancient
Ayurvedic texts.
2. DEPARTMENT OF RACHANA SHARIR [ANATOMY] :
This is the basic subject in the curriculum of BAMS by which we can
identify and gain knowledge of Human body parts using dissection
methods and become an open-minded researcher and an able clinician.
Being the foundation subject, all the basic principles of Ayurveda are
encompassed within Rachana-Sharir. The subject of Rachana Sharir
includes study of Normal body structures as stated in Ayurvedic Samhita
by the Acharyas along with the study of Modern Anatomy. Each student
of 1st BAMS has to perform complete Dissection of Cadaver in a
systematic manner during his part of curriculum.
3. DEPARTMENT OF KRIYA SHARIR [PHYSIOLOGY] :
Kriya sharir is the basic subject of Ayurveda, which initiates learning of
Ayurveda at primary level for the students of first BAMS. It deals with all
the basic knowledge and siddhanta as well as clinical examination of
normal individual. Our aim is to highlight this basic knowledge and to give
new scientific approach to students to polish their skills of Ayurveda and
making them compatible to apply in clinical practice.
4. DEPARTMENT OF SWASTHVRITTA [SOCIAL PREVENTIVE &
COMMUNITY MEDICNE] :
A real strength of Ayurveda is preventive measures and maintaining good
health which is included in subject Swasthavritta. So this subject is very
much important in faculty of Ayurveda. Swasthavritta syllabus also
contains preventive measures of Modern science, Yogshastra and
Naturopathy. The content of subject is very useful to create such
students, who are able to bring about welfare of the society with the help
of science of Ayurveda along with Yogshastra and Naturopathy.
5. DEPARTMENT OF DRAVYAGUN [PHARMACOLOGY]:
The subject Dravyaguna deals with basic principles of mode of action of
drug and detailed study of herbal drugs thus creating platform for
therapeutic application of herbs. This subject is backbone of clinical
practice. The subject also includes standardization of Medicinal plants.
Amongst all the available sources of drugs in various therapies herbal
drugs are proved to be safest; so more and more people are attracted and
wish to undergo only herbal therapy. These Herbal Medicines are gaining
more & more importance nowadays.
The subject also has great potential in industries as Dravyagun experts are
required in different fields like in pharmacies and pharmaceutical
companies, research Institutes, Medicinal plant conservation & cultivation
sector etc.
6. DEPARTMENT OF RASASHASTRA AND BHAISHAJYA KALPANA
[PHARMACOGNOSY]:
Rasashastra & Bhaishajya kalpana is one of the most important branches
of Ayurveda. It basically deals with the preparation of Ayurvedic
medicines using Mercury, various metals, minerals and also various herbs.
This subject is a part of syllabus of 2nd year B.A.M.S. course. The
Department is fully equipped with various instruments, specimens,
Models, charts.etc.
7. DEPARTMENT OF ROGNIDAN-VIKRUTI VIGYAN [PATHOLOGY]:
Rognidan-Vikrutividnyan is the groundwork of all the clinical subjects. The
subject helps you to understand in depth the disease (Vyadhi-vidnyanam)
& its pathogenesis (Samprapti Vidnyanam), the art & science of the
clinical examination methods (Aatur or Rugna Parikshan Vidhi); the signs
& symptoms or clinical features of the disease, the required investigations
(Vyadhi pariksha vidhi) & the interpretation of their results as well. The
subject deals with not only the diagnosis but also the prognosis (Sadhya-
sadhyatwa) of any disease. Thus it renders the student to understand the
philosophy as well as practicality of vyadhi-vidnyanam.
8. DEPARTMENT OF AGAD TANTRA [TOXICOLOGY AND MEDICAL
JURISPRUDENCE]:
Department of Agadtantra (Forensic Medicine and Toxicology) provides
educational inputs to the II year undergraduate B.A.M.S. students in the
subject of. Agadtantra. The department provides a favorable environment
for conduct of scientific research, which has beneficial practical outcomes.
9. DEPARTMENT OF PRASUTI AND STREEROG [OBS & GYANECOLOGY]:
Department of Stri Roga & Prasuti tantra is the premier department of our
institute. We have a special Stri Rog & Prasuti ward with good flow of
patients.
10. DEPARTMENT OF KAUMARBHRITYA [PEDIATRICS]:
Kaumarbhritya is the subject taught in the final year B.A.M.S. Professional
Degree course, This is the important basic clinical subject of Ayurveda. It is
one of the eight branches (Ashtang) of Ayurved. Department is having
well qualified, studious co-operative and experienced staff.
11. DEPARTMENT OF KAYACHIKITSA [MEDICINE]:
The Kayachikitsa department offers teaching and training modules on
general medicine. It comprehensively deals with the diagnosis, assessment
of the patient, investigation and effective medical management of various
ailments according to the fundamental principles of Ayurveda. The
treatment side consists of the usage of a wide variety both internal
medicines and external treatment procedures. The management modality
is selected after careful assessment of various constitutional factors of the
body and morbidity factors.
12. DEPARTMENT OD SHALYA TANTRA [SURGERY]:
Shalyatantra is one of distinct branch of Ashtang. Ayurveda teaches us
surgical knowledge and procedure that are performed and used by
thousands of years . Modren plastic surgary specialty is one specialty that
has its origin form shalyatantra which documented in modern journals.
Surgical knowledge of disease and treatments described in shalyatantra
can be researched and used in diseases with minimum complications and
side effects. Nowadays world is turning to ayurveda for comprehensive
treatment for diseases.
13. DEPARTMENT OF SHALAKYA TANTRA [E. N. T. & OPTHALMOLOGY]
Shalakyatantra is the branch of Ayurveda, which relates to the diseases of
EYE, EAR, NOSE THROAT and Orodental, its treatment by classical
methods like Kriyakalpas and different surgical methods.
Knowledge of Shalakya enables the students to be an authority in
Shalakyatantra & make him a good clinician, a competent surgeon, a good
teacher & a scientist with an analytical mind.
INFRASTRUCTURE & PHYSICAL FACILITIES
CLASS ROOM
College main building has well equipped and spacious four class rooms.
Class rooms are equipped with multimedia projectors and smart boards.
Each class room contains minimum one square meter area for each
student, fitted with modern and comfortable furnitures.
LABORATORIES
College has the separate laboratories for Anatomy, Physiology, Ras
Shastra, Dravya Guna. Anatomy lab is equipped with models and charts of
human body as well as two cadavers and three dissecting tables. Separate
rooms for preserving human organs and separate storage of cadaver
makes the anatomy lab safe for students. Physiology laboratory is
equipped with modern devices and reagents / chemicals required for
different biochemical and physiological tests. Dravya guna lab consists of
more than 300 samples of medicinal plants.
LIBRARY
Our college encourages all students to make best use of the library that
has been carefully built up since the inspection of the college. The library is
with reference section, magazine section and stock area. Presently it stocks
more than 3000 books and reference volumes for lending to faculty and
students. Constant additional of titles and volumes in all fields of medicine
is a regular feature of the library. Every effort has been made to obtain all
titles recommended by the Faculty and University.
AUDITORIUM HALL
We have a spacious, well equipped, ventilated auditorium hall which is
used for different seminars, work- shops and other co-curricular activities.
More than two hundred students can be accommodated at a time in the
auditorium hall.
YOGA ROOM
We have a spacious and well equipped yoga room where 100 people can
participate in yoga activities at one time.
CANTEEN
College has a specious and well equipped canteen room where students
and faculties can get delicious and hygienic food.
HOSTEL FACILITIES
College has well equipped, spacious and separate hostels for boys and girls
which is situated in the main city.
PLAY GROUND
College has spacious play ground having area of 1.5 Bigha (around 18
Ropanies) where students can participate in different outdoor games like
football, volleyball, cricket etc.
HERBAL GARDEN
College has developed its own herbal garden where students can study the
different medicinal plants which will help them to recognize different
medicinal plants in and around our society.
WI-FI FACILITIES
We provide 24 hours unlimited wi-fi facilities in college premises as well as
in hostel blocks.
HOSPITAL FACILITIES
Shree Mithila hospital is the teaching hospital of Shree Mithila Ayurveda College
and Research Centre. The primary objective of Shree Mithila Hospital is to apply
the basic principles of Ayurveda and to build a healthy society rather than
becoming merely a treatment centre. This is a unique hospital where one can
have holistic medical facilities of Ayurveda through 5 OPD and IPD with bed
strength of 100. The patients are treated by experts, specialized consultants,
trained paramedics. Special treatment is given for the diseases like Diabetes,
Arthritis, neuromuscular disorders, Hypertension, Urinary disorders, piles, fissure,
fistula etc. The hospital offers unique residential holistic programs for
’Panchakarma’ which includes participation in Yoga, Meditation, Lectures, a
properly balanced diet and lifestyle correction.
