Senior Museum Educator, Gallery/Studio Program Coordinator
Education
(Full-time, permanent, union position)
Requirements:The successful candidate for this position must have a B.A.or B.F.A. (M.A. or M.F.A. preferred), 23 years of museum educationexperience, and an active studio practice. The individual must demonstrate
excellent teaching, writing, organizational, and art-making skills. He or shewill have experience coordinating programs, developing lesson plans,
installing exhibitions, managing budgets, and supervising part-time staff,interns, and/or volunteers. The candidate will be well-versed in socialmedia, web publication software, and new media programs on iPads andMac computers. Knowledge of Brooklyn audiences is a plus.
Responsibilities:As part of the Education Division, the Senior MuseumEducator will be responsible for conceiving, implementing, and managing
the Gallery/Studio Program, a series of art courses for students ages six toadult that uses the Museum's collections as a resource for developingartistic practice. This position will develop courses and teach classes in the
program; recruit, hire, train, and supervise a part-time staff of TeachingArtists and teens; perform administrative oversight; conduct evaluationsand assessments of the program; install three student exhibitions annually;
maintain the art studios; teach school groups in the galleries; assist with thepreparation of grant proposals and budgets; and participate in otherMuseum initiatives as time permits. He or she will also organize marketing
and outreach efforts such as maintaining the program's Facebook page,writing blog posts to promote the program, and raising awareness of art-making experiences at the Museum. Collaboration with other Museum staff
aswell as outside organizations is expected. The position is considered amentoring position for other educators in the Museum.
Reports to:Youth and Family Programs Manager
Interviews begin:Fall 2013
Work schedule:TuesdaySaturday, eight months a year; MondayFriday,four months a year (with some flexibility and weekend work required)
Compensation:$34,779$39,996, plus benefits
