Columbia’s LL.M. Program is designed for lawyers who wish to pursue an advanced course of law study. Each year, we enroll approximately 275 graduate students from more than 50 jurisdictions. The J.D. requires three years of full time study. All law students finish their first year of study on our campus in Moscow . Students have the option of finishing their second and third years of study in Moscow or in Boise. In the J.D. program students work closely with faculty experts from a variety of backgrounds and with many decades of experience. The option is also available to specialize in one of our four emphasis areas, or enroll in one of our six concurrent degree programs. Our emphasis areas of study in the J.D. program are Natural Resources & Environmental Law, Business Law & Entrepreneurship, Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution and Native American Law. Concurrent degrees are available in Moscow and Boise in a variety of subject matters. The Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree is pending approval in fall 2015 and students should be able to enroll in August of 2016. The degree will have three areas of emphasis that are in line with the J.D. emphasis areas: Natural Resources and Environmental Law, Business Law and Entrepreneurship and Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. A fourth emphasis in Democracy, Justice & the American Legal System is available for students looking to receive a well-rounded education on U.S. law and legal systems. Virginia offers more than 250 courses and seminars each year, most of which are open to LL.M. students.
