Our Vision and MissionThe vision of OEC is to be a model school in the School

District of Philadelphia by 2020 as rated by the School Progress Report (SPR) while creating the least restrictive environment for

students with special needs. Additionally, 100% of our 8th

graders will have the opportunity to attend the high school of their choice. We will

accomplish this through:

-Ambitious Instruction-A Supportive Environment

-Involved Families-Collaborative Staff

-Effective Leadership

Our mission is to prepare students to become positive,

productive citizens who can live

independently and with purpose to

serve others and to ensure proficiency (or above) for all students in each subject area and development of

strong character.

Page 10: Educational Center: JAG · 4A Reflecting onTeaching 3A Communicating With Students Ms. Williams had the chance to visit Overbrook School for the Blind to see best practices along

At least 80% of students and 90% of staff will attend 95% or more of school days (miss 9 days or less). We are currently at 85.1%

At least 70% of students will earn A’s and B’s in core courses in grades 5-8.

At least 82% of K-2nd grade will score at target on the Spring aimsweb and make at least 1 year’s growth from Q1 to Q4 in their independent reading levels.

The percentage of students scoring at proficient or

advanced on the ELA PSSA will increase by 15% in each

grade level.

No more than 20% of students will score below basic on the math PSSA.

Best Practices: This Week!3C Engaging Students in Learning 2B Establishing a Culture for Learning

Ms. Sell used Wilson’s Fundations for her phonics lesson this week with fidelity. Student groups were thoughtfully prepared ahead of time and lesson materials were carefully planned to differentiate for student needs. Students had time to reflect and consolidate their learning and students were able to assist one another in understanding the content. Great job, Ms. Sell!

Mr. Pritchard did an excellent job engaging Ms. Williams’ class in their art projects on Friday. Students were separating light and dark shades of green and were able to accurately recall previous learning. Mr. Pritchard modeled the task at hand to be followed by student engagement with the task. Matthew Keith did an extra special job - see pic on slide 6!

4A Reflecting onTeaching 3A Communicating With Students

Ms. Williams had the chance to visit Overbrook School for the Blind to see best practices along with her peers and immediately submitted her peer visit reflection sheet with thoughtful and insightful ways to consider her instruction and reflect on ways to improve. Thank you, Ms. Williams, for your reflection and for attending the visit with the life skills team and Ms. Keefer!

Ms. Aly Cohen did a wonderful job on Friday communicating with her students about what they were going to learn and providing clear, specific instructions for student activities. Students knew their routines and procedures in the room, were engaged in their i-ready minutes, meal prep, choice time, and 1:1 work and when off task, Ms. Aly Cohen swiftly redirected students to get them back on track. Keep up the great work, Ms. Aly Cohen!
