BACKGROUND

This idea came from the insights of discussion with many students and the findings of other students of this MOOC on the problem they face when finishing school

Overall when finishing university studies many seemed confused about what they wanted to do next, seemed unprepared and did not have the experience, support and skills to enter the workforce or find the right project for them

This project is about starting early to create ‘learning’ opportunities for children to experience different skills so that they have a much clearer understanding of what they want by the time they need to choose

It also involves creating a coaching platform so they can find help and support for the things they like

It is inspired by the MOOC world of online learning, weekly tasks and team support

CREATE A PLATFORM FOR LEARNING ONLINE

The project will have ‘learners’ and ‘mentors’ that are connected through an

online platform called yammer (as it is free)

On the platform, the ‘learners’ will be given weekly challenges that will help

them develop skills. They will upload the result of the challenge which

will be evaluated by the ‘mentors’. This will be supplemented by regular

google hang outs where they can ask questions to the mentors and get

guidance

The purpose is to start thinking early about what the ‘learners’ goals are in

live and to start learning new skills and be supported by individuals in

doing so

It is inspired by the MOOC structure as a learning environment but will

have a more developed coaching structure

OBSERVATION

• The weekly task generates some degree of enthusiasm (depending on

the nature of the task) and clearly raises questions that they had not

thought of before

• If sustained and the content adapted it should work

• Still a lot of refining to do to make it sustainable in the long run (which it

needs to be in order to be useful for the learners)
